I liked last night's show. Viewership went up. My opinion is validated. I win. My version: I can't stand John Cena on Raw. John Cena wasn't on yesterday. Viewership went up. My opinion is validated. I win.

A show with no Authority and no Big Show gained viewership.

I win. His merch sales may have dipped by .0001% though. If so, Cena will be back in a Rip Hamilton mask next week.

Might be up but lost people in hour 2 and 3 I think that's the trend they've been fighting of late - 3 hours is just too much time for a weekly wrestling show...

Cena headlines and has something important happen to him, in addition to being #1 Contender to WWE Title, numbers are up the next week. That's the correct narrative.

Well, the correct narrative is really just, "The difference between this week and last is just random fluctuation." But, you know, whatever.

I thought Raw was great and for once 3 hours didn't feel like it was too long either.

It's no coincidence Hours 2 and 3 declined considering Cena was confirmed in Hour 1 to have the week off due to injury.

People tuned in to see Virgil, when Virgil wasn't there they tuned out.

The viewership has been dropping of in hours 2 and 3 quite often recently. It's amazing the conclusions people will jump to from even the slightest fluctuations in ratings.

Looks to me like viewers are tuning in to see Orton and Sheamus face off in main events. Hopefully we'll see more of it.

You know, I've been reading a bunch of Wrestling Observers from 1996-7 and they always break down the rating from both Raw and Nitro. They nightlight which quarters did better than others, which stars or angles are drawing etc.
But it today's climate, does this actually matter. Do the small vibrations of ratings really matter? Raw has had its highs and lows but even from memory its always around 3 mill or more. Which USA is very happy with. Raw is just a staple now, its always gonna have an audience regardless, without American sports as competition.
Surely we should consider at this point, network subscribers and house show audiences to detect whether the products working. Now they've ditched the PPV model, the previous baromoter of success, surely its live audience takings and merch along with the network that measure success.
Eh, this is a criticism of WWE rather than anything else. Without the Nitro competition, and still being highly ranked, do a few points differential in ratings really show or demonstrate anything?
