I never quite understood the concept of the Monster's. Ball match. Why not just call it s hardcore match, or a no DQ? At a time the idea was that all involved would spend a full day locked up alone in a dark room with access to no food, no water, and no way to pass the time to make them feel especially depraved. Of course realistically this should have just made them collapse dehydrated soon as they tried to throw a punch but whatever. That's why I never got the idea.

He tried to murder RVD.
RVD must have had a damn good plastic surgeon, because when he came back he did not have one scar on him!

Lock 3 guys up in a room for so long that they're all dehydrated and have no idea why they're fighting. What a great concept for a match.

I'd argue 2005 was his best year. He had one of the best matches in TNA history with AJ at lockdown, was involved in the Sabu feud, competed in the best monsters ball at BFG, and was booked really well in ROH

In his younger days Abyss was a hell of a worker. Look at his match with AJ at Lockdown 2005 for an example of the guys best work.
He was a great base for smaller talent: he'd bump around like a champion for them and nothing looked more impressive than a black hole slam on a smaller guy when he did like 5 rotations on it. Incredible stuff.
Now he's a parody of himself. It's quite sad to see his decline, but there's no denying he was once a talented worker who incorporated weapons into his matches; now he's a guy who does the same spots in the same hardcore matches for 15 people.

I don't know why people are bringing up Joseph Park. That was Abyss' brother.

his lockdown match with Styles is probably the best cage match in TNA history I'd agree but I'd probably say second best, AMW Vs Triple X has it beat. I'd still call that match one of the best though Abyss looked like a beast and AJ looked like a champion both men tore it up and it's hard to find fault with that.

I found the therapy sessions with Dr. Stevie to be quite entertaining.

I miss the Monster Ball promo's. Like Monty Brown was sweating and screaming a lot and speaking very clearly for a man severely dehydrated and hungry.

Does the barb wire christmas tree count as an Abyss moment?

I also want to add to the list of great matches he has had in this thread Rhyno vs Abyss vs Jeff Hardy vs Sabu Monsters Ball Jeff Hardy vs Abyss Full Metal Mayhem (the one where Jeff Swantoned off the wall structure outside)

Of course he did. This site is just really harsh against him. He was consistently an entertaining dude until he came back in all white/started talking. Joseph Park though? Gold. Probably because when Abyss went downhill, he went downhill FAST. And most of us here probably remember Abyss for how much of a shadow of his former self he has become.

Abyss was bar none the guy that you knew Russo was going to book into the ground with wacky, horrible angles. It should come as no surprise that once Russo hit TNA that's when you got the Sting feud, climaxing with the Last Rites match (and "Fire Russo" chants). There was the whole Judas Macias feud. It was an endless barrage of embarrassing booking that killed whatever potential Abyss had. And that's well before the laughable Hogan's Ring storyline in 2010, or THEY, or anything in Immortal.

That time he was in a promo with Jeff Hardy (I think) hyping up another Monster's Ball and he warbled out "Barbed wiIiIiIrRRree!"

It was an endless barrage of embarrassing booking that killed whatever potential Abyss had. And that's well before the laughable Hogan's Ring storyline in 2010, or THEY, or anything in Immortal. I was about to post that if there was ever a time to put over Abyss, it was having him go into a feud with Sting. Sting works well with big men and Abyss could work(at that time). Two were "characters" guys and it was for the Top championship in the company. Everything was in place to put Abyss on another level. But when I saw these horrendous storylines of him being in prison or burning or his parentage and Sting having to "save" him, it was like seeing this car crash happening before your eyes and not having the power to stop it. (Also TNA has done this so many times, instead of just giving their guys the ball and become champ, you had them undergo countless changes and metamorphosis and having stars from WWE and WCW trying to "save" them. Happened to Joe so many times too. And AJ). The way Abyss won the title was so the opposite of putting him over, I think Sting was DQed and the title could change hand from it, something asinine like that. Sort of similar what WWE did with Kane at some point(when Russo was booking). Abyss had something, was a good man at some point but too many things happened to him. And frankly I never was a fan of trash matches. It lost its edge midway around the end of ECW and the end of the Attitude Era. Joseph Park sort of saved him but with this too, TNA had this go too long and it became a cluster. They probably should have had Park being revealed as the masked Leader of Aces & 8s. Would have killed both Park and Abyss and would have given him a new character a Bane-type that is both smart and a monster.

Abyss is like the human inbodiment of TNA. For every good moment that abyss had, he has 10 bad ones too.

I think I've only seen maybe 40 episodes of impact so I've missed all sorts of things.
Even so, no.
