9 months? I haven't watched Sesame Street in years and I know it shouldn't apply to me but still... f*** you cable TV.
What? Why do you have such a problem with this?! You just said you haven't watched it since you were little. It's still going to air on PBS, and will probably get more of a boost to it thanks to HBO's money. This is a good thing, and you're getting angry for the sake of being angry......

No explanation will be good enough, and I'll only be seen as an angry old man who's afraid of change, but here goes, anyway: It's more to do with principles and how cable TV seems to be hogging everything. It's bad enough that classic cartoons can't be syndicated thanks to cable exclusive deals, and ESPN hogging NBA broadcasting to make people buy cable, but taking a public broadcasting show and putting it on a premium cable channel? That doesn't sit well with me for some reason. And sure, it'll still be on PBS but the kids have to wait 9 months and 9 months is like 9 years to a kid... But I could just chalk it down to being bitter about cable getting everything.

How many kids that do not have HBO will even know that it is delayed by 9 months. Seaseme Street's demographics and storytelling structure is not one that has a natural flow and create spoilers. Its not like there are going to be a bunch of 4 year olds going " OH MAN, did you see that episode of the letter "M" and Number "15" that they had on last week? Oh you don;t have HBO. Well when you get it in 9 months it...will..blow... your...MIND"

In fact, they always rerun the same episodes of the season multiple times since there's like a two break before they debut the new episodes. I know this from watching my nephew and seeing the same episodes over and over. It's not like there won't be episodes show in those 9 months and if they are able to produce more episodes per season, typical season seems to be 26/27 eps, there will be overall more new ones for kids during that 9 month break.

They currently do 16 new episodes a year, meaning the other 300 or so days it's on is a repeat and kids don't seem to care or notice so I highly doubt this will bother them much EDIT: 18 a year. My point still stands tho

If this leads to Oscar The Grouch hosting a Real Time with Bill Maher like "New Rules" segment, then I am sold!

So this means that whenever someone brings up defunding PBS, no one can say anything about "Big Bird". They can say it but given Big Birds new found friendship with Mobsters,Westeros and Essos we might not see them again so they should probably keep their mouth zipped.

I would rather HBO just start showing Meet The Feebles.

I can understand people getting annoyed at something previously meant to be universal being tied down and potentially being altered for the sake of commercial and corporate interests. As a comparison, if Doctor Who left BBC and was being made for Sky or ITV, it'd never be the same.

I would rather HBO just start showing Meet The Feebles. No! That is a terrible thing to say, why would you say that? People don't need to be reminded of that... that... travesty to puppetdom! On a more serious note, Meet the Feebles seemed kind of like a Muppets panto.
