Just thought of another one: New York Yacht Club held the America's Cup for over a hundred years.

Johnny Van Der Meer--Back to back no-hitters. Think about it--to BREAK the record, you'd have to throw THREE straight no-hitters.

Jim Thorpe:
-Gold medal-winning decathlete in the 1912 Olympics -College and Pro Football Hall of Famer; excelled on offense, defense and special teams -A founding father and first President of the NFL -Played Major League Baseball -Starred on a barnstorming basketball team
Seriously... Jim Thorpe could have played any sport, ever, and at least had a good chance at success.

Another one from the NFL: Sammy Baugh. He led the league in passing touchdowns, interceptions on defense and yards per punt in different seasons. He was literally the best player in the game at three positions. You rarely see that in high school these days. Sammy Baugh did it at the highest level!
One of my favorites from MLB: Greg Maddux, 1995. 19-2 with 10 complete games. His ERA+ (100 being the league average) was 260. His walk-to-strikeout ratio was nearly 8:1. He had a WHIP of 0.811. It's one of the most thoroughly dominating seasons ever by a pitcher, and it came from an unassuming looking guy who didn't have a blazing fastball.

Oscar Robertson averaging a triple-double in 1961-62, his second year in the league: 30.8 ppg, 12.5 reb, 11.4 assists.
In an aside for Jim Thorpe, he also won the 1911 Intercollegiate Ballroom Dancing Championship as well. (Odd how his medals were stripped playing professional in the one sport he was truly mediocre...baseball.)

Any record Wayne Gretzky has. 50 goals in 39 games, only player to get 200 points in a season and doing it twice, one of those seasons he had 215 points and second on the list was Lemieux with 141 and Gretzky had more assists still, only player to have 2000 career points and could of got 3000 points if he played one or two more seasons. He was a point per game player in every season but his last one Like Gretzky was a guy who entered in bunch of cheat codes, set the difficulty to the easiest setting possible, and gave himself the highest stats possible to dominate the game like no other The best hockey player to ever live; a hockey player so good, that it was unfair how good he was...and the Edmonton Oilers traded him.

In 1971 while pitching for the Phillies against the mighty Reds, Rick Wise threw a no-hitter AND hit two home runs in the same game. It gets overlooked by performances by more famous athletes but it's probably one of the most dominating individual performances ever seen in a single game.

Dock Ellis pitching a no-hitter while tripping on LSD has to be up there, yeah? I mean, in terms of "one and done" cool stuff.

Oilers still won a cup without him and Gretzky would never win a cup again. Gretzky was seeking to be the highest paid player in the league and no way in hell could Edmonton ever afford him, hell his father even said he knew Wayne was going to leave Edmonton before he even knew, he just didn't expect it to be a trade.

Let's go with Glenn Hall, 502 complete games in a row as a goalie. Goalies now play like 3 or 4 or maybe a few more if they're super hot. He did it without a mask, being sick to his stomach before every game and, since goalies don't play that way anymore, is a record that sealed behind glass and his forever, until hockey isn't a thing anymore.

I know the game was very different a century ago, but Cy Young has 511 career wins. Great pitchers today strive for 300 wins. Young had 316 career losses, also a record.

Rocky Marciano 50-0. Dimaggio 56 game hit streak Another good thing about Marciano is that unlike Mayweather he actually fought. Floyd may surpass Marciano's record technically, but that just means he's great at playing tag. Marciano will always be the more impressive boxer.

The St George Rugby League Club won the New South Wales Rugby League premiership in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966. 11 years in a row, it will never happen again.

I'm not a sports enthusiast but anytime I see a story about someone with artificial legs competing, thats a f***ing impressive accomplishment to me.

Sure, everyone knows that Jack Nicklaus won 18 majors, what's crazier is that he was runner-up 19 times and holds the record for most career top 10's in majors with 73! The next closest guys are Sam Snead and Tom Watson with 48 and 46, respectfully.
Another important golf figure, Byron Nelson won 11 straight tournaments in 1945, and 18 of the 35 tournaments he entered that year, both records that are likely never to be broken again.

Tim Duncan won his first championship with the Spurs in 1999 the year before the Shaq/Kobe dynasty kicked off in LA, and won his last title in 2014 the year that the LeBron/Wade dynasty ended in Miami. He bookended two legendary runs from two of the greatest teams ever, and won 3 additional titles in between. A lengthy run of dominance that only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar can rival.
