Anyone else remember this-and if you do, feel free to correct me if I am wrong about the name. It was in WCW. Scott Steiner basically claimed that he was going to do all his matches "in the asylum," which was some sort of cage match. The difference was that the cage was lowered INSIDE the ring rather than around it. The effect was basically a tiny, circle shaped cage that really didn't offer much in terms of mobility. It sort of cut the ring space in half. I guess it was kind of meant to look like a UFC cage, even though UFC hadn't yet experienced its resurgence yet. The only problem was Steiner didn't do all his matches that way, and as I remember they only used it a handful of times, probably because someone realized how stupid it looked and how much it limited what the wrestlers could do. I think the last time they used it didn't even feature Scott Steiner; it had something to do with Tank Abbot and Rick Steiner, who were some sort of weird team at the time. One of them was having a match inside the cage and the other came out with a pair of bolt cutters to try to cut through the mesh-only to give up after a few minutes and start shouting to get the cage raised. At least that's how I remember it.

My brother and I refer to it as "the Octagon Circle." I don't know what all happened with it on tv, but I know it was a part of the Great American Bash 2000 payperview. Think it was Scott Steiner versus both Rick Steiner and Tank Abbott in a handicapped match.
It was terrible.

I only ever watched nitro when I was waiting for raw to star And this is one of my few memories from watching nitro live. No one I ever talked to knee anything about this damn match when I brought it up. I never found it on YouTube or anything tell I bought a DVD set of all of the 2000 nitros I was so happy I wasn't crazy

Considering this was during the Russo era, I'm amazed they didn't beat it into the ground.

I posted about this a while back, I was going nuts thinking I'd dreamed it. I think he fought Rick to a DQ finish...

And the ultimate irony being that Steiner was doing "asylum" years before his craziest antics were to come

I think they were trying anything they could as far as gimmick matches could go to pop a rating.
I suspect someone remembered Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den matches and thought they could do something with a circular cage, but did it in the dumbest manner possible.

You'd think Scott Steiner killing people in a cage would equal a ratings bonanza.
I knew they were going to die when that idea flopped.

Wow, that was, what, 30 seconds before interference in a cage match?

Who thought signing Tank Abbot was a good idea?

I like how Rick is in control, but then the go to Tankberg, and come back to show Scott watching the aisle... only to say that Rick had been in the Steiner Recliner for minutes or something.
You're on TV... SHOW, DON'T TELL!

Jesus, that "match" gave me a headache, and is an encapsulation as to why WCW is dead and buried now.

Wow, that was, what, 30 seconds before interference in a cage match? I think even more appalling was how Tank destroyed the suspension of belief regarding the basic psychology of steel cages. Why doesn't everyone that tries to interfere in a cage just beat up the dude holding the remote?
