WWE's main priority is pleasing shareholders, the best way to do that is to keep things steady, they don't want the peaks and troughs of previous eras.
That said I have no idea why they can't have more logical booking within their holding pattern.

I don't think there's a show they can put on that would prevent the usual suspects here from whining. The specific complaint you bring up, not enough separation in the pecking order could be changed by promoting half the guys and demoting the other half, but there would so much whining here about the half that got demoted. I wouldn't complain about Big Show being demoted.

They're the McDonald's of wrestling at this point. They don't have to be good, just consistent. Sure A LOT of people find Mickey D's good because its always around and you know EXACTLY what you're getting with it. You can take your kids there and they'll get a prize with their meal and they've got the slickest advertising team around. But they're FAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR from the best food, even in the "fast food buger" category. WWE wishes they had a wrestler as good as a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Bagel.

They could always bring back the roster split so that Smackdown would actually matter again & everyone would have something to do. Their roster is too big at this point in time for there not to be some guys getting lost in the mix. Then you have all the NXT wrestlers on top of that who keep getting called up & just makes the roster even more congested. I think since there's no more competition, they really need to bring back the roster split. They don't need to have two separate equal rosters. They just need to realize that not everyone needs to be on every show. And they need to stop dragging title feuds out for months or building around stars from past eras,

I agree. I'm not saying they can "revolutionise the business" and "start a new boom period" blah blah blah but at least try SOMETHING different.
A couple of weeks ago when I put on my recording of Raw and Rollins was in the ring I honestly thought I'd put on the previous week's show by accident because every arena looks exactly the same and every show starts exactly the same.

And they need to stop dragging title feuds out for months or building around stars from past eras, I agree with that, but I think a roster split would help get a lot of talent over that highly likely won't without it. And also, that would mean not all the stars from past eras would be taking up a lot of TV time on both shows. I just don't see how bringing up more people from NXT to the main roster helps anyone at all either since it just makes the roster even bigger. They need to either start releasing some people, or start making some huge changes so everyone has something to do.

Because they honestly think their shows are good, lol. There's a difference between not wanting to do something and just being incompetent at it. Wasn't Vince bragging on the Austin podcast about a HUUUUGE opening to Raw that was literally the segment that ended the Raw before just happening again the exact same way, but this time it was at the beginning? I could totally believe they think they're perfect right now.

Because they don't have to. It doesn't matter how crappy or stale your product is as long as people are watching the show and, more importantly, the commercials. You can complain as much as you want, but it does no good when it doesn't affect ratings.
Being in the minority sucks...

The real answer is that even if their usual formula actually did lose them a lot of viewers, all it would take would be a quick phonecall to The Rock, or Taker, or Sting to get them (plus some that stopped watching) back.
And this is why I'm against the idea of Sting winning the belt (you know, besides him being my parents age). It's a lazy way of not having to reel in viewers creatively.

Let's not pretend that we don't get some fantastic matches on a weekly basis.
Storylines need a bit of working on but my god, if you think it's crap now I challenge you to get through an Attitude era RAW on the network and still like it. It's like watching a video of you dancing and singing drunk at a wedding. "Why did I think this was a good idea!?"

It's like watching a video of you dancing and singing drunk at a wedding. "Why did I think this was a good idea!?" Here's my thing though. The overall quality of matches means the standard for what's even an average match on Raw has been raised. That means, all these good matches mean nothing because they so rarely amount to anything or have no real feeling of consequence to them. Good matches are a dime a dozen now. That's a spoiled mentality but that's how I honestly feel. There are good workers up and down the card. That's no longer a special reason to tune in. Unless it's like the best TV match of the week, it's really hard to care. Especially when you know the people involved are probably just gonna EDIT: Apparently, I had a stroke while posting this...

Smackdown has been a show that's still on TV for the past 10 years just for the sake of making the company extra money. Well you answered your own question right there. So long as it's making money and giving a return to the shareholders why wouldn't they do it? Corporations love this "extra money".

I will say this in defense of WWE. I can't imagine now hard it must be having to appeal to such a wide demographic every week.

I will say this in defense of WWE. I can't imagine now hard it must be having to appeal to such a wide demographic every week. Their only demographic are wrestling fans. The age and gender and economic status are all largely meaningless. It's not that difficult, or at least it wouldn't be if they acknowledged they are a wrestling promotion.

They're making enough money doing what they already do and it's run by a senile old shit and his merry band of yes-men.
