People are so anxious to jump down one anothers throats. it feels like we're being policed 24/7, especially when on the internet.
One mistake ruins you, opinions are widely criticized, apologies aren't accepted and we seem to live in a hostile world where nobody has your back.

That I can agree with, I've seen people I've known preach forgiveness, but practice the complete opposite when it comes to an opposing opinion

Doom and gloom suck. However, so does blind positivity.
Find the truth, own the truth, and be real about it. Figure out solutions to problems, instead of ignoring them and smiling away, or whining doom and gloom and not solving anything.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm just so sick of it. I feel like DeNiro in Taxi Driver, the whole world just gives me a f***ing headache.
I'm only on Facebook, but lately all I see is nonstop negativity. Racism, political talk, religious talk, hell even things like music/movie discussion, no matter what, it's just nonstop fighting and it depresses me so much sometimes.
I don't want to turn this into a political debate, but things are just going to get much worse as we get closer to the next election.
It's refreshing that there are still places like this, where we can discuss something we love without jumping down each other's throats.
Social media was one of the worst things to happen to us as a society. Not only does misinformation spread like wildfire, but it provides people with vastly different opinions to discuss things that probaby shouldn't be discussed so openly with people with different views then you. Let's not forget, once it's on the Internet, it's ok there forever. Many lives have been ruined thanks to the power of social media.

This is what happens when you live in the lamest possible version of cyberpunk. Call me when I can abandon my physical container and upload myself to the Wired.

Let's not forget, once it's on the Internet, it's ok there forever. Many lives have been ruined thanks to the power of social media. Hey man, this might sound condescending, but seriously, you do not have to go on that stuff and read all that bullshit. The reason social media has so much power is that people are addicted and feed into it. I've got a Facebook account, but basically as a way to keep up with friends across the country, or ask general questions of people I know and trust, or post things I think those people ought to know. I am certainly not reading my feed for hours and commenting on things and getting pissed at people. I hear about the awful social media monster so often, and I see none of it because I just don't validate it by giving it my attention. If anything truly important happens, it's going to break out of that bubble, so I'll hear about it then, and form my own opinion without wading through a bunch of terrible ones and getting mad about them. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing anything. I mean, I missed GamerGate...I'm okay with this.

I hear ya. I don't really participate in any of it, but I do like to be aware of what trends, what is being discussed, etc, especially when it comes to politics. i guess i'm more depressed about how people act on these platforms.

That's exactly how I feel.
One of my best friends constantly shares link of political stuff on Facebook. This only started recently but it bugs me when I see it so I had to hide him from my timeline. Same with others. Some of the stuff they share is interesting, and it's not that I disagree with the content most of the time but it's all just so depressing and sometimes I think I'm happier ignorant and not knowing all the shit going on in the world.

And this is why I love Captain America and Superman. Yep. With the right story they're nowhere near the boring boy scouts so many people claim. I think most people are inherently good and also trying to gradually get better. When I read about bad stuff in the news and heated political or social stuff, I try to remind myself about the positive ways in which we have progressed, and as headache enducing as some of it can be to deal with we're still trying to come to a better understanding on how we can treat each other. In fact, right now I'm deep into a book called The Better Angels of our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined by Steven Pinker. I'm not saying it's absolute truth, but it has some interesting theories on human nature that work as rebukes to excessive pessimism, including how the media can skew our perspective on war within the remarkably peaceful times we're living in now.

Fully agreed. As I have said before, it's really only the most cynical that can't stand Superman. Because their own lives are messed up, they don't believe there's anyone that could be nice. So Superman and other heroes like him come off foreign to them. They might deny any personal level they have against him, but it definitely affects them unconsciously whether they realize it or not.

I read this thing on Cracked which said that the world is currently experiencing the most peaceful era in human history.
You'd never believe that if you watched the news. They can spin regional sectarian conflicts into threats to human existence and civilisation on the verge of Mad Max.

I FEEL SO GOOD I FEEL SO NUMB, YEAH I guess I'm cold, because it doesn't affect me at all. I watched that shooting, and while it was terrible, it didn't give me nearly the same reaction some of you had. I do think some people exaggerate on how "bad" it is. Your reaction to the video is kind of an example of how bad it really is though. No one should see people being killed and not be effected by it. We in this country have gotten too used to things that are terrible. To the point where no one blinks an eye. That's not good. The one thing that really gets me is how quick the internet community shits all over something. As if they went out and did any better themselves. Its not that hard to just relax and be chill about something.

My work reflects that I think. Really, society right now is far better than it has been in the past. "Times have not become more violent. They have just become more televised." That quote has always stuck with me, and the more I learn, the more I find it to be true. Right now, life's pretty sweet. It'll never be perfect, but we're getting there. Wounds can heal, scars can fade, it just takes time. I'd elaborate, but I'm on my phone.

The only thing that gets to me are those goddamned SPCA commercials and cruelty to animals and children. There's always going to be hatred, wars, chaos, and mayhem in the world it's just that now we are all more connected than ever before and without going too deep into it lots of politicians like to use those things to play on our fears and get votes/support and the media knows what will get them ratings/views.

Though being awake for 30 hours makes it harder to concentrate.
