Saturday NRL results:
Penrith Panthers def. Newcastle Knights 30-12 St. George Illawarra Dragons def. Wests Tigers 32-30 (Golden Point) North Queensland Cowboys def. Gold Coast Titans 42-12
With those results, Newcastle will finish bottom of the league for the first time since 2005, despite having led the league early with a 4-0 start. They would win only four more games from their remaining 20. St. George Illawarra also seal the final spot in the playoffs (albeit on a 12-12 record), ensuring that Manly couldn't overcome the points deficit even if they win against Cronulla tomorrow.
Tomorrow's games to finish the regular season...
Parramatta Eels (9-14, 12th) v Canberra Raiders (9-14, 10th) Cronulla Sharks (14-9, 5th) v Manly Sea Eagles (10-13, 9th) Canterbury Bulldogs (13-10, 6th) v New Zealand Warriors (9-14, 13th)

First week of finals in the AFL are set.
Qualifying finals will be: Fremantle (1st) v Sydney (4th) in Perth next Saturday afternoon, and West Coast (2nd) v Hawthorn (3rd) also in Perth on Friday night.
Elimination Finals: Richmond (5th) vs North Melbourne (8th) in Melbourne on Sunday afternoon, and the Western Bulldogs (6th) vs Adelaide (7th) also in Melbourne on Saturday night.. Also both these games will be played at the MCG, the Bulldogs were keen to play at Docklands Stadium but the AFL think they will get better crowd numbers at the G.
Other news: Carlton will finish last earning the dubious Wooden Spoon label for 2015. Plus the first pick in the national draft...

Was at the swans game tonight, good performance in patches but don't fancy the finals chances at all. Although I think I'd rather play Fremantle rather than Hawthorne or the Eagles at this stage

What Luke Hodge did was irresponsible and he should feel ashamed. But jeez some of the reaction by people is like that episode of The Simpsons when Ned Flanders is pulled over and Reverend Lovejoy see's it. Or that 'And you F*** one goat joke' I guess. Yes he did a bad thing, but he is not history's greatest monster. If does it again, sure get out the pitchforks.
Anyway the AFL Finals are set up in such a way that there won't be any matches in Melbourne during the Semi (2nd week) or the Prelim Finals (3rd week) .. Which I'm sure the journalists at the Herald Sun are getting ready with the articles that it's a great shame. I don't think so, if we want this to be national sport we must accept this is gonna happen. Actually a week off for the MCG will help get the ground in tip top shape for the Grand Final.

AFL really went out for entertainment for the Grand Final

Serious blow to the Sydney Swans Premiership chances with Lance 'Buddy' Franklin ruled out of this weekends qualifying final against Fremantle with what has been described as a "ongoing mental health illness".
The word on the street is that the two time premiership winning star had a seizure on Friday morning in a cafe and was taken to hospital .. He played on the Saturday against the Suns.

Watch the NRL point this out with complete sincerity as they wheel out those young up-and-comers Cold Chisel.

I failed to mention some young pop star will also be performing.
Ellie Golding or something... Yeah I can judge the AFL being out of touch.. When I'm in just as much in a music bubble.

The 2015 AFL Rising Star Award has gone to Melbourne's Jesse Hogan.
You may have caught him on the WWE Network on a 2015 episode of This Week when the "he no longer works here go away" Hulk Hogan visited the young forward and other Melbourne players.

George Burgess (South Sydney) has had his two match suspension for contrary conduct (in this case, throwing a water bottle at an opponent) upheld, meaning that he misses the elimination final against Cronulla and the next final should Souths win. Grossly unfair, I think since other people charged this season with the same thing for other offences (like headbutting) have gotten off with no suspension.

I'm hoping one day that Jesse Hogan will clash with St Kilda's Shave Savage.

The finals series starts in like five minutes. Should be one of the two matches this weekend that will 100% be good.

First qualifying final in the NRL is done and won, with somewhat of an upset as #4 Melbourne Storm defeated #1 Sydney Roosters 20-18, the first loss for the Roosters since Round 13 back in early June. Melbourne advance to a preliminary final in two weeks time, while Sydney plays the winner of #5 Canterbury v #8 St George Illawarra next week in an elimination final.

I f***ing hate Melbourne. I haven't bought the new NRL video game purely because Cameron Smith is on the cover.

Just get a New Zealand import with Shaun Johnson on it. $88 at The Gamesmen in Penshurst!
(It's where I bought the game that got me back into wrestling, SmackDown Shut Your Mouth)
