No surprises with either of the player of the year medals, the Brownlow Medal for AFL and the Dally M Medal for NRL, with the respective favourites Nat Fyfe of the Fremantle Dockers and Johnathan Thurston of the North Queensland Cowboys taking home the prizes.

Blunder on AFL's shop webpage.
They accidentally posted standby memorabilia for about six potential Brownlow winners about 90 minutes before the actual winner was announced. The AFL has apologised for getting people's hopes up.
One thing I did notice after during the broadcast was Sam Mitchell suddenly went to second favourite with betting odds not long after shop stuff was posted. And he was like only on 8 votes to Fyfe's 18 at this stage. So somebody saw the page and suddenly bet the house on Mitch to win. Oh dear.
Congrats to Fyfe though.. A great season.

The funny thing is that Fyfe got three votes in a game where he wasn't even close to being the best player on his team. If not for that then Priddis would have tied with him for the brownlow.

Teams for the AFL Grand Final have been named. No changes for West Coast. Meanwhile Hawthorn youngster Billy Hartung will make way for Jack Gunston.
Only one Hawthorn player will make his GF debut.. James Frawley. While Ryan Shoenmakers will play his second while hoping for his first premiership medal (he played in 2012 loss to Sydney) .
On the West Coast side of things Xavier Ellis is will be playing for his second premiership medal after winning his first for Hawthorn in 2008. Another fact is Ellis' last game for the Hawks was against West Coast in 2013. West Coast last won the Grand Final in 2006 against Sydney.. Only one player from that match will be playing this Saturday .. Sam Butler. The only other premiership player playing for Eagles is Sharrod Wellingham who was apart of Collingwood's 2010 premiership winning team. All other West Coast players will be making their GF debut.
In other related news the West Coast's 2006 premiership coach (and player if you go back to the 90s) John Worsfold will coach Essendon from next season.

Only in this awesome and screwy country of ours can one of the long-running "traditions" of Grand Final week (for BOTH AFL and NRL) be copious amounts of cross-dressing and dancing around like a loon on national TV by players not involved in the final match. *shakes head and laughs in pity*
(Yeah, I looked up the two Player Revues out of curiosity like I always do, and they were into the cross-dressing STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BLOCKS for the AFL one...)

I watched the AFL Footy Show for only time this year.. And yeah, the comedy on that show makes WWE's comedy writing look sharp. Just got back from the Grand Final parade. Big turn out, Yarra Park was packed. But a fun day out.

It's almost time for the opening bounce in Part I of Australia's Festival Of The Boot... The AFL Grand Final between Hawthorn and West Coast.

Opening goal goes to West Coast's Luke Shuey, cancelled out almost immediately by Hawthorn's Cyril Rioli. Only a rushed behind to the Eagles separates the two teams early on.

Hawks thoroughly outplaying the Eagles when going forwards, watch the Eagles fans cite biased victorian umpiring as to why they're losing.

Bit of a late fightback in the second quarter keeps the Eagles in it... Hawthorn up 9.3.57 to 3.8.26 at the half time break.

West Coast are a good side but some of their big players are not making an impact. I expect a fight back.
It's a good margin but not big enough to be comfortable. Hawthorn have the shade in the 3rd.. Could prove very valuable in this heat and bright sunshine.
Go Hawks.

Jack Gunston's taken this one by the scruff of the neck now and swung the momentum right back to the Hawks, he has a personal haul of 4.2 at the moment.

50 point lead for Hawthorn at the final break, 14.5.89 to 5.9.39.
I think this one might just be in the bag now.
