There was a case of this a few years ago, except the student was 7 years old. The school offered a private bathroom but the parents insisted she be able to use the girl's bathroom even though she had a penis.
Too this day, I think that was more of a case of the parents being so eager to show how open minded they were that they pressed the issue more than the child did.

Not condoning segregation, but shouldn't most schools have private bathrooms/showers in cases like this? Have you seen the education system in this country? Most schools can barely afford to feed the students grade A slop. If they put in a private bathroom/shower, it'd bankrupt the school.

As a trans woman, it's kind of fun to know that me using a public restroom as casually as possible is the type of thing to scare people out of their minds. Your pee is seemingly a mighty weapon of destruction. Really, the world governments should be harvesting your urine to put in water balloons to throw at people. My pee has the power of 1000 Wildcats.

My old high school was atleast 30 years so there wasn't no private bathroom/showers, just one for male and one for female. My school was old as hell. We couldn't afford paint for my Art class, and I saw the Tenor Saxophone I played in band in the 1977 Yearbook.

It took my school about 10 year before they finally got the approval to build a new building. Also I think the main problem here isn't the fact she want to uses the girl restroom but the fact she was change and shower with the other girl in the girl lockroom. Since she still has a penis, this could lead to legal problem which the school probably want to avoid.

Still...it had a lot of old stuff. The art tables where old Science room tables, so it was hard to draw on them due to years and years of people carving into them.

Not going to wade too much into this topic, beause honestly I don't know if I could absolutely state with certaintly that I think either side is without merit, but in this case they do have private facilities for the student that the student has been using (it's a faculty restroom). The student is saying that she shouldn't be required to use the seperate bathroom and should be able to use all the female facilities. From what I read, one of the sticking points seems to be the changing/showering aspect, the female students don't want to share the showers/changing room with someone with a penis.

Well they build the new high school about 3 years after I graduated. I graduated in 2007 and we had text book going up to first Brush and computers still running on windows 98.

Cool, put the woman in with the men. That's clearly the sensible option. A woman showering with women? hell no. Leave her in the vunerable position of being in with a bunch of jocks.
Dumb idiots.

Yep because all men/jocks are rapists. What about the girls whom might be uncomfortable showering/undressing in front of someone who still has a penis?

I only showered once after gym class and that was after my first high school gym class because I thought it was mandatory. I had never seen another schlong before and being in a shower surrounded by them was horrifying to 14 year old me seeing these kids critiquing each other's packages on size and how much hair was on it. We never did anything to work up a sweat in gym class so I wasclike WTF is the point of this? I then learned it wasn't mandatory and never went in there again.

I have an open-minded opinion on this and typed it out four different ways and still couldn't make it sound inoffensive. It's a compelling topic and I feel for the poor girl. No one that age should be the focus of large scale controversy and be expected to be comfortable.

This wouldn't be a problem if people would just stop taking showers.

I... completely understand where both sides may be coming from (it's a matter of comfort, both for the student in question, and her fellow students, especially those who may be affected by the decision), and there's no good answer here that is going to satisfy everybody. That being said, I have just upgraded to the thirty six foot pole, so I ain't touching this one any further.

From what I read, one of the sticking points seems to be the changing/showering aspect, the female students don't want to share the showers/changing room with someone with a penis. This smacks to me a bit of the popular belief that 3rd wave feminists have effectively warped young girls' minds in North America into being entitled mean-spirited bullies to 'non-normals' aka non-conformist girls. The very idea that 'ewww she has a penis lets shame her' is a literal reverse-sexist hate culture if there ever was one. If feminism today were truly about gender equality, this would be a non-issue in a high school when it's the female locker room the trans-student is trying to gain access to. A half-century ago you'd think it would be the boys' locker room and male chauvinism causing problems, but the very idea that a female locker room is a 'sacred domain' that can't be sullied by a 'false woman' is so offensive in so many ways to me (a lifelong gender egalitarian) that I'm probably going to actively seek out the facebook/instagram hotspots of these Hillsboro HS students and flame them accordingly. Apologies for touching on a bit of politics in this post, my trigger in general is women who complain about being oppressed in society while at the same time oppressing people in society. This is a classic example.
