I'm super surprised to see how many people dig it here, considering the amount of people that have shat on it over the years. Robin Quivers from The Howard Stern Show said it was the greatest movie she had seen, at the time...ha TV tropes has something to do with it, I swear.

Great flick, except for the kid. The kid is awful. The movie would have been a lot better without the kid. Yes, they could have still found a way to make it work without the kid. Yeah, but you also hate every single kid in every action thing ever.

The first two-thirds of the movie where the kid is in the movie world are absolutely brilliant. Brilliant, I say! I can't say enough good things about that part of the movie...
But then Arnold comes into the "real world" and it takes a serious nose dive. The pacing slows considerably. The Ripper character is introduced late in the picture and suddenly becomes the big bad, even though Charles Dance's character had already been established as the big bad. The real world is established as operating under different rules than the movie world, but all that is forgotten during the final chase and fight scenes with the Ripper. Then Charles Dance comes back, but by this point we're already spent after the fight with the Ripper and it's like, "Oh yeah, I forgot about this guy." And then they kinda sorta go back to "real world rules" which makes for an anti-climactic final showdown. By this point, we're ready for the movie to finally end, but now the Grim Reaper shows up and the kid has to find the other half of the ticket so Arnold can get back into the movie world. Jeez, just hurry up and end already!
I can't think of another movie that I both love and hate as much as Last Action Hero.

I couldn't agree more, that kid was awful and I was a kid when I saw the movie. Also before I get the "you hate kids in movies", The Sandlot is one of my favorite movies from that era and I still enjoy watching it. Really don't remember much about the movie, since it's been years since I watched it. I just remember thinking the movie was better than I expected and the kid sucked. That movie took a beat down from the critics and everyone crapped all over it when it was released.

Tim from Jurassic Park, John Connor in T2, Jaden Smith in Karate Kid goes to China, and many more have entertained me. The only ones I dislike are the snarky know it alls (Note, different from enthusiastic about the subject characters) or the ones that spend the entire time screaming/whining (Last Action Kid, Lex from Jurassic Park, Dakota Fanning in War of the Worlds). While the kids are usually included so the young audience can relate, mostly I just like them to be characters in the movie rather than audience members in the movie.

It had a killer soundtrack as well, AC/DC, Anthrax, Megadeth, Alice in Chains, and Tesla all contributed great songs to the movie. And of course, you cant forget the "Terminator 2" scene.

I've only seen it once, and I remember enjoying it but preferring True Lies. Might have to go back and watch it again.
