Watching those Nitros from 97 on the Network I forgot how bad he was. You can tell it was a copycat of the Rocky Maivia title win.

But that first win over Regal nobody saw coming, and was one of the most genuinely unpredictable moments in Nitro's history. One of my all time favorite Nitro moments.

All I remember was his valet Paisley and Jericho calling him "Prince Makalaki"....other than that, I have no other recollection of him.

I like how angry he makes other people by simply existing. It's just inspiring to me.

Horrible horrible wrestler. Why was he allowed to (kinda) succeed? I never knew the backstage reasons for that.

His Dad probably got the booker's ear most of the time and managed to get a push for him
"SULLIVAN! MY SON!"
(I know they're not related)

What was his finisher?
I vaguely remember a jumping DDT from the top ropes (that is, his opponent would stand keeled over and he'd jump down with a DDT).
I'm not imagining that, am I?

Horrible horrible wrestler. Why was he allowed to (kinda) succeed? I never knew the backstage reasons for that. He tended to impress the right people with his attitude and backstage etiquette. At least according to Wiki, that's how he got into Sullivan's favor (and later Choshu's in Japan). Also had a very impressive training background (Karl Gotch and Dean Malenko, among others) that screamed potential; it just didn't translate like it should have. Speaking of his Wiki, surprised to read he's already got a son in the business. His Dad probably got the booker's ear most of the time and managed to get a push for him "SULLIVAN! MY SON!" (I know they're not related) What's funny is that King Curtis' son also wrestled as Prince Iaukea (in the 80s). When Sullivan came up with the gimmick for the WCW Prince, Da Debbil's buddy Curtis gave his blessing.

Dull wrestler, zero charisma, rarely (never?) on the mic
Did enjoy his surprising TV title win in 97, but besides he had very little to offer
Why Sullivan was so high on him (especially during his TAFKAPI push early 2000), I'll never understand
