It's supposed to be a comedy. I think so too, and didn't fully believe it until I saw the Gma yell, "Yahtzee!" I think the "twist" for this film is that people are going into it as a horror/thriller movie.

Just got back from seeing it, it's actually pretty funny. It's not meant to be taken seriously at all.
For once, once the dialogue wasn't stilted, which helped a lot.

Wait, it's a Shamalama... Shyama... ...it's a Sarsaparilla movie?
Well, damn. I literally did not know that because somehow, they didn't bleat on about it endlessly in the commercials I've been exposed to.

We had a special screening at the university and my dorm mate went to see the film. He said that he enjoyed it and would recommend others see it. I asked him if the film had a twist and he told me... Warning this is the ending as described by my friend. SPOILER WARNING! I'M WARNING YOU!{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}So in the movie the kids are visiting their grandparents for the first time ever. They don't know what they look like. The movie tells it's story over a series of days. On the last day that of the movie the mother contact the kids over skype while the grandparents are in the garden. The kids tell the mother about the weird things and the mother says, "Those aren't your grandparents". The mom says stay there and she's going to get the police. Well it turns out the grandparents were actually escapees from a mental hospital and the real grandparents were murdered and put in the basement.

Even for a guy who's the walking version of a Urban Legend, that's lazy and dumb.

Seriously, the entire premise (from what I've gathered) is "grandparents are made of concentrated evil!", and... no. That's just... no. I mean, c'mon... "Get in the oven to clean it!"? Really? How dumb would you have to be to think that would work, let alone DO IT? You know what? I want it to completely throw everyone off, and have the kids be goddamn crazy. Reveal that the grandparents are super sweet and awesome, but the kids have been corrupted by the rock music, and the Tumblrs, and haven't been taking their damn medication... or something. I dunno. I am easily annoyed! "Get in the oven!" Jesus...What gets me, is after being asked to get into the oven to clean it, the girl does a fourth wall stare to the camera as if to say "can you believe this shit?" Is the Shyamalan twist this time that the little girl is really Jim from the American version of The Office?

I gave up on M. Night a long time ago but I urge you to put opinions aside and go see this movie. It's actually pretty good - it's not a classic, but it'll be something people talk about for awhile. The kids did a great job - especially the young boy. The movie is all the right kinds of funny and scary. It's not meant to be a Sixth Sense type of flick.

"And the Producer of Paranormal Activity and Insidious" Bloody hell these bastards are everywhere. You think superhero movies are oversaturating the market? They pale in comparison to the oeuvre of Blumhouse.

A lot of his more recent films downplay his involvement or at the very least, they don't mention it much. The Last Airbender was the last ounce of good will people had for him being extinguished.

Just saw it. I really liked it. It's easy to see how this became M. Night's first movie with a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes in like… a decade?
I saw it with a real good crowd, too, people were cheering the characters on and giving them advice and stuff.
It was a fun experience all around.
