Sigh. I long ago made peace with the ideas that a) Benoit did it, b) his actions were driven in large part if not completely by the effects of CTE on his mind; and c) the continued discussions of alternative theories only hurt Benoit's legacy as a pro wrestler and the work of researching and raising awareness of sports-related CTE.
To be fair, had it been almost anyone else in the business, I think we probably would not still be discussing any of this at all; we'd have long shut that individual's memory in the box labeled "DO NOT TOUCH" and the dust on it would certainly be an inch thick by now. The reason it keeps getting surreptitiously opened and its contents perused is because Benoit was both an extraordinary asset to pro wrestling during his life (and the circumstances of his and his family's deaths so bizarrely at odds with that) and because the efforts taken to step around his value and importance to the development of the craft have only impoverished pro wrestling deeply, I think.

Dixie Carter: "Bill Apter is kind of dumb isn't he?"
Josh Matthews: "Dixie, why are you talking to a potted plant?"

I don't give a good goddamn if you think it's unfathomable for Benoit to kill his own kid or not, Apter. That's what happened.
Go f*** yourself. F*** off to where you're credibility has gone, you prick.

The whole argument of Bill not being able to fathom a parent killing a child is odd, since it sadly happens every damn day.

If Benoit had brain damage, paranoia might have been part of that. Plus the fact many of his best friends were dying at a young age within a very short period of time. I remember reports that Benoit became very distant after the death of Eddie Guerrero and became really distant after Johnny Grunge passed away. Two of some of his best friends passing away before 40 within a short few months. Such was the condition of Benoit's brain and heart, doctors have said he'd have been dead himself within a year anyway. Knowing how much he'd pushed his body beyond its limits I'm sure that thought had occurred to Benoit on more than one occasion, especially after Eddie's death. That kind of thing hanging over your head will make a sane person crazy, and Benoit wasn't exactly a picture of sanity to begin with.

Hey guys-
Not something I generally reveal online, but I'm a homicide detective (yes, that's a shoot). This type of behavior, like many other posters here have mentioned, is very common. The loss and shock that Apter and many others experienced with the Benoit tragedy is very difficult- if not impossible- to come to terms with. In my experience, I've had many family and friends of suspects call/contact me asking us to please go over the events again because, "So-and-So never would have done this." I've been given many theories about "what really happened" and how their loved one was framed.
Honestly, it's heartbreaking to hear the pain and loss from those people. I do not work in Georgia, so I've never seen the actual report on the incident. I did have to opportunity to speak with a detective with the Georgia State Police at a training event once. He was one of the detectives that reviewed that investigation. From what I was told, the report we were all given was very accurate, within 316,000,000:1 the suspect was Benoit.
I believe it is very possible to separate the performer from the man. Personally, I was entering boot camp when the incident took place. To get myself into shape, I used to go for 2 mile runs around my neighborhood. I had a specific playlist on my iPod Nano... God, I feel old... and the list started with Beniot's theme. To this day, I still have trouble watching his matches on several levels. But, over the course of time, it will be easier to watch them.
Sorry for the long post.

I am r l bed to see the number of Benoit apologists or deniers has dropped to almost non-existent on these boards. For a few yrs after the murders/suicide, a thread would crop up about Benoit, heat would gather, people would be banned, thread locked, rinse and repeat. It was proven conclusively by thorough investigation conducted by forensic experts and crime scene investigators, that he mourdered Nacy and Daniel and then killed himself. It doesn't matter how you enjoyed his matches he murdered a child and a woman he swore an oath to God to love honor and obey. That is his legacy. Not any wrestling achievements.

The one good thing to come from the whole situation is that due to WWE tightening up the Wellness Policy, they caught MVP's heart defect.
