Far more real than ever now that I look at it. After the whole Punk leaving, podcasts, random comments from both of them thing it's wild to imagine how they felt when they cut each of these promos. A lot of that stuff wasn't scripted, even Nash's comments from Punk were pretty brutal. In one line in particular from Triple H stands out to me which was during the Smackdown contract signing. Triple H said "the difference between me and Vince is that Vince would have gotten into the ring with you at Night of Champions and sat there and taken a beating from you because it's good for business, this has nothing to do with business now between me and you, it's completely personal and I'm going to kick your skinny fat ass".
Another thing, once Punk lost to Triple H you can easily see him cool down, he didn't even feel the same after that and you can tell in his face that he knew.
Wild times.

Still think that match was so much of a mess that it made NOBODY look good, instead of the sentiment of "Triple H > Punk" just because he got the win in the end.

Would Punk have brought a new boom period? Probably not, but it's inarguable that he had quite a bit of mainstream publicity for a few weeks and that could've been built to much more than what it became. The whole HHH/Nash thing was like firing a supersoaker fulla piss at a lit match. You douse the flame and just get a mess everywhere.

I still feel that the Nash Text thing is one of the best subtle story things they've done in a long while.
Nash had no business being apart of the WWE at the time. He had no business to be anywhere near the company in an active form. He shows up to a show and gets to meet up with his old friend and then he suddenly appears in the main event powerbombing CM Punk.
It's stupid. There's no reason for him to do that. So, here's him saying 'look I got a text that said to wipe out the winner. So I did." Everyone says it's Triple H, Triple H swears he never sent the text and left his phone alone as all major businessmen do during big important nights.
So, it's a mystery. Who in their right minds would TEXT KEVIN NASH for help in 2011?! Who would be desperate enough to bring in Nash? The MITB guy? No. He was just an opportunist when stupidity happened. Triple H as Red Herring? No. Triple H literally has an entire locker room full of people who could reliably do the job. Santino on a lark? Never investigated.
It was a Sherlock Holmes level thing. When you remove all the other possibilities, the only remaining one must be correct.
WHO IS THE ONLY PERSON STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK KEVIN NASH SHOULD BE ON TV IN AN ACTIVE ROLE IN 2011?
Kevin Nash, That's who. Nash texted himself. Got involved in other people's business and while he 'lost' in the end, he made more money in the end.
And that's why I enjoy that stupid part of this horribly done angle.

However, there was one guy who would be stupid enough to use Kevin Nash in this role, and that's the guy who was ironically given the title Mr. Excitement. You know Big Johnny is dumb enough to do it, was seen texting all the time during this period, and he actually gained power through the whole mess. It's like the story was supposed to have that twist, but just didn't.

According to Nash he came up with the short order cook promo on Punk because of frustration, like Punk had been killing him on the promos every week and the writers weren't offering anything to Nash.
I think Nash also implied that the office buried him by booking him on a ladder match which exposed him, he can't even climb a ladder. I would've preferred Nash not to wrestle and just be a flunkie.

Yeah, had they actually followed up that chaos it would have been different but nobody looked good. Had they followed the whole "How are Awesome Truth always able to get past security? How are they able to get into the building?" it would have been different. They had the whole underlying possibility that someone high up was working against Triple H, Punk, and even Cena, but it all led to nothing.

Imagine in 2005 or 2006 if you said that CM Punk would become one of the biggest stars of the company who was involved in the biggest angle in years that got a lot of mainstream attention ended in a Sledgehammer Ladder match between Kevin Nash and Triple H.

This angle will live in infamy for the rest of time.
CM Punk finally looks to be on the verge of being a legit, mainstream, break-out, ticket/ppv-selling star, something the company has been sorely needing for a very long time...and HHH just buries the whole thing.
When it comes to booking how own on-screen character, he just can't help himself.

Punk was smart enough to walk on the line of kayfabe and not being buried verbally by "condescending" John Cena like so many others, but he got caught at his own game by Trips and came out as the bitter B+ player. Triple H is genius.

I just get depressed by this whenever this is brought up thinking about how excited I, and everyone else was when the whole thing started. MITB'11 is right up there as my one of my fave PPVs of all time. The angle got me back into WWE after nearly a year and then was basically what ultimately drove me away from WWE for good.

Punk winning would have been good for business, but HHH didn't care because he didn't like Punk, so was going to bury him, business be damned. I'm not a HHH hater, I'm not a hardcore Punk fan, but it really is ridiculous when you think about it, what happened.

At the very least, he did seem to learn his lesson by the time the Daniel Bryan thing came around. Then again, he did go on to book Sting's debut match as an excuse to give all his friends a Wrestlemania payday...AND he went over.

According to Nash he came up with the short order cook promo on Punk because of frustration, like Punk had been killing him on the promos every week and the writers weren't offering anything to Nash. Which is rich, considering Nash CONSTANTLY verbally buried other wrestlers as a heel in WCW with virtually no payback for his comments. Arn Anderson parody anyone? I also remember him saying "that security wasn't for my benefit, it was for Punk's, you know I would have killed him!" He and Trips are cut from the same cloth.
