Actor/rapper Will Smith is reuniting with his longtime friend Dj Jazzy Jeff for a 2016 world tour as part of his musical comeback.
The Independence Day star has been absent from the music scene for a decade, but he's planning to revive his career in a big way by returning to his DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince roots.
The duo recorded five albums together and won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for Parents Just Don't Understand, but the pals have never hit the road for an extensive run of dates.
"Jeff and I actually have never done a full tour," Smith told Beats 1 Radio host Zane Lowe. "I was always on (TV series) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, or making a movie. So I'm looking this summer to be the first time we go out on a full world tour."
Smith has been hard at work in the studio recording new tracks, revealing he's already laid down 30 songs for his next album, but, although he's a showbusiness veteran, Smith admits he's still nervous about making a return to music after such a long break.
"I'm terrified," he confessed. "I have so many things I want to say, and I'm struggling to say them in a way that fit the flavour of music I tend to like... But I'm really ready, man. I've got a whole lot of heart to share, and I'm really excited about getting it into my music."
Last week, Smith released his first new song, titled Fiesta, a collaboration with Colombian band Bomba Estereo.
Time to get jiggy wit it!

So he realized he hasn't had a good movie in a while and needed attention another way?
Not hating on the guy, I like him, it's just how this comes across to me.

Looking forward to this, hopefully we'll see a new album because I am a Will Smith fan. Would like to see a Mike Shinoda collab on there as well as something with Jazzy Jeff, not saying it's likely but I'd mark pretty hard for that.

This is basically an event 20 years in the waiting. I can't recall the last time he even dabbled a bit in music. (2000, or whenever Getting Jiggy With It, which I think has finally exited radio station playlists, came out...?) A world tour seems ambitious but damned if Will's fame itself can justify it at this point. I guess this also means that DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince are as known around the world as it is here, which is also impressive. Surprising they've never toured, even back then. These last...10 years of movies aren't the Will Smith everyone knows and loves. Good stuff, sure, but this......THIS IS HIM.

If their tour comes within a 4 or 5 hour drive from where I live, I may have to seriously contemplate going. I still own a couple of DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince vinyls from when I was younger. They were a huge part of my youth/teen years.

It'll be cool as long as he doesn't bring Jayden/Willow Smith on stage to sing.
