Wonder how this will affect Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. IIRC, Flashpoint in the comics were things were the same, yet slightly different.

So, the big bad is probably once again going to be a speedster. Last two seasons were Barry learning to run faster, and once again, it's going to be solved by him... running faster.
I like the show, but a new thing would be fun.

The thing with Flashpoint is that it's actually not a bad story... as an Elseworlds kind of story, a narrative that has no impact on the main continuity (besides the emotional impact on the Flash himself or the Batman "you're one hell of a messenger" bit). But Flashpoint was also the arbitrary means by editorial to half-ass reboot the entire continuity and fold in the Wildstorm universe.
And with Supergirl being brought to CW, and the fan response to Arrow's lackluster fourth season, and the attempts to make a weak spin-off show like Legends of Tomorrow actually work, and the tease of a four-way show crossover, Flashpoint feels less like a one-and-done story and, again, the arbitrary means by the showrunners to half-ass reboot parts of the continuity and fold in the Supergirl universe.
As mentioned already, who exactly from the Flash's rogues gallery can be the big bad in such a way to drive the narrative through-line for 22-23 episodes? Grodd's cost prohibitive, the Rogues are fun but aren't an existential threat to the hero, we still haven't even had Mirror Master on the show yet, and Zoom was generic serial killer evil.
If Flashpoint has to be a thing, and the season villain has to be a speedster, which would leave Matt Letscher's Reverse Flash as the guy, I hope the show at least breaks up the story into smaller segments.
- 2 episodes in the Flashpoint universe; Reverse Flash shows up, messes with Barry, and they race to the future... - 3-4 episodes with some time travel into the future; we see Reverse Flash's timeline, maybe the Legion of Superheroes... - 3-4 episodes with some Earth 2 stuff; especially Grodd leading a gorilla invasion into Earth 1... - 3-4 episodes with the Rogues; Captain Cold, Heatwave, Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, and the Trickster all team up to try to stop the Flash, and they bring in a new ringer, Mirror Master... - 2-3 episodes that deal with Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl; have them fight the new big bad for LoT Season 2... - And then wrap up the stuff with Reverse Flash by season's end. Set up the Anti-Monitor and the Crisis of Infinite Earths for a Season 4 storyline.

Flashpoint is going to resolved quickly, because they'd have to throw everything out of whack in their universe.
They also need it resolved to merge Supergirl's universe with the other CWDC shows.

I don't know if we need Flashpoint to explicitly merge the Supergirl universe in the Flarrowverse per se. There are multiple Earths. We know this already. Zoom came from Earth 2. Jay Garrick is from Earth 3. I guess Supergirl's universe is Earth 4? We don't need Flashpoint for that when we know Barry can both time travel and cross universes. Just have Benoist do double-duty and play Power Girl on Earth 1 and then have Barry zip over to Earth 4 to get Supergirl for the crossover episodes. Anything else is just overkill. It just seems needlessly convoluted to me, but after the sloppiness of Season 2, I certainly wouldn't be surprised.

So the main purpose of S2 was for the writers to do some meta BS where the 90s TV show was a parallel Earth.

Something still bugging me about the season 2 crossover is what was the entire point of Malcom taking savages ashes at the end of the crossover? was this ever addressed because it seems like they wanted to bring back savage specifically on Arrow or having Malcom try and become immortal himself but then....nothing.

Savage was the villain and focal point in Season 1 of the spin-off Legends of Tomorrow
