A new couple moved in above us. It's completely normal when you live in an apartment that you will hear the people above you walking around sometimes, or the muffled sound of their TV once in a while, or even hear the muffled sound of conversation.
But this dude is LOUD. He will be talking to his girlfriend/wife, and you can't hear her side of the conversation. He will have friends over, and you can't hear their end of the conversation. However, you can clearly hear every word this guy says. He has no inside voice. I have to have my AC on even if I'm not hot , or turn on the tv or music even if that isn't what I feel like doing just so I can't hear him. It's bugging the shit out of me because I like to read.
Normally in a situation like this, I would just go knock on a door and ask someone to quiet down. However, like I said I can hear everything this guy says and he appears to have no sense when it comes to these things. He is always bitching about other people that he works with and stuff, and from what he says he seems to be one of those people that only care about themself, so what's the point? I'd only be starting shit with him that I'd have to put up with for however long he lives here.
So anyway, just needed to vent. Feel free to share your own stories of shitty neighbors if you need to as well.

My neighbors are loud (fights in the middle of the night, cops have come multiple times in the year since we've moved in). The neighbor guy (boyfriend of the tenant. We've dubbed him Long Hair Guy since we can't be bothered to learn his name) has taken to repairing ATV's. There's nothing wrong with this, but its senseless as we live in the middle of town and the most he does is fix them and drive down the street and back. There's a whole fleet in our driveway. Once summer came, they took to congregating and smoking right outside the only window we keep open that has a fan in it. They suck.

Maybe earplugs? I know you maybe can't wear them all of the time, but I'm surrounded by noisy people too and I'd be lost without my earplugs or sound muffling earphones.

I live in a bizarre set of apartments. There's an outside porch that me and my neighbor share that has sliding door, and both of our apartments also are accessed through an additional sliding door. Not only does this jabroni constantly pace over to my side of the porch while talking loudly on the phone, but the dumb asshole always leaves the outside sliding doors open despite the landlord posting a note to keep the doors closed and threatening us over it.
Thankfully, the neighbor seems to have moved away, but they'll probably get another complete buffoon to move in at some point.

Maybe he's actually alone and delusional, having these loud conversations with people who don't exist?

My current upstairs neighbor is pretty quiet most of the time. But she's also a screamer...

Maybe he's actually alone and delusional, having these loud conversations with people who don't exist? I've seen his girl, and I've seen him take male friends up there, so it isn't that. However, something I didn't mention in the original post is that in addition to being loud, he just never stops. I could hear him talking when I went to bed at around midnight, and then when I woke up at seven this morning, he was freaking talking. I'm starting to think he might be a coke head or something like that. I've never touched the stuff myself, the only drug I ever liked is weed and small amounts of alcohol, but coke is a pretty popular thing around here.

Artist's rendering of your neighbor {Spoiler} My solution? Write a transcript of everything he says and slip it under his door.

I've heard him, as though he were standing next to me in a quiet room, clear as day, over top of a crowed bar during a live concert. I've heard him hundreds of feet away, through a brick wall, with earphones in and that's just his normal speaking voice, to say nothing of when he starts shouting. None of these are exaggerations.

I feel bad for you because that's not the easiest thing to broach in conversation, but if it really persists, I don't think it's unfair for you to say something.
Maybe even just leave a polite note.
