Am I the only one that finds it odd that one of the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a group that mainly did Gangster Rap? Eh, I still voted for them. I don't find it odd at all. In fact, I really wish people would stop making such a big deal about "rock and roll" being in the name. These R&B and hip-hop acts are too important to leave out, it doesn't matter what the damn institution is called and it shouldn't matter if these artists primarily used guitars or not. I'm sorry, but NWA deserves an induction just as much as Weird Al or Cheap Trick does. I'm not saying they don't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, since they basically brought about the Gangsta Rap genre. However, like others have said, they need to change the name of the place then. Like to the Modern Era Music Hall of Fame. Then alot more artists could be nominated, including ones that wouldn't be thought of (John Williams, for example).

70's ProgRock YES is brilliant They really got hurt as a lot of people think of them as a crappy 80s band who make songs like Owner Of A Lonely Heart What's wrong with Owner of a lonely heart? 90125 is a great album.

It's never been a purely rock and roll hall of fame anyway, even among the first batch of inductees you had guys like James Brown and Sam Cooke who you'd have to stretch majorly to consider rock and roll artists. Since then there have been a bunch of jazz, funk, RnB and so on artists inducted. so it's not like it's unprecedented to have rap groups in there. It should really be open to anyone who has made a major impact on the music industry and left some kind of enduring legacy.

I'm sorry, but NWA deserves an induction just as much as Weird Al or Cheap Trick does. Rock and Roll is a genre. Rap is not that genre. I'm not splitting hairs here, but they're more than worthy of a "Music Hall of Fame" or "Rap Hall of Fame". It's a name that's taken seriously because of its name. It's nothing against the artist, but it'd be similar to Dan Gable getting into the WWE Hall. Okay, bear with me because WWE's hall is least consistent of all of them, but it's apples and oranges. Let's put Metallica in the R&B Hall of Fame. They've got good rhythm. In 97, James sang the blues... to varying results. Why not have Black Sabbath for BET Hip Hop Honors? It's music. Drastic examples, but my point is the name is both the reason people get held up on the artists, not their merit. NWA is more than worthy of lifetime achievement. I'm more of a Tribe guy, but to each their own. And yeah, Weird Al got screwed again.

At least the anti-rap crowd wont be able to say anything when Ice-T gets inducted (since he also fronted a metal band). Also, NWA could be the first group in the HOF to have a song with the f-word in the title.

To me, after a certain point, I think that most anyone that was played on MTV qualified for the HOF

I agree with those saying Weird Al belongs in there. He should have been inducted at least in 2007, because 2006 was his best year.

I can get behind
The Cars Deep Purple Janet Jackson Chaka Khan The Smiths Cheap Trick N.W.A The Spinners Chic The J.B.'s
rest can f*** off. I promise to not get annoyed by this meaningless horseshit but ever year it comes around you see who's behind the pack in terms of votes, who isn't in yet and all sorts of other nonsense and remember the f***ing Red Hot Chili Peppers are in there ahead of them

I'd vote for: Cheap Trick Chicago Deep Purple Janet Jackson N.W.A Nine Inch Nails The Smiths Yes And why in the world would anyone not vote for NIN? Because this is the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Not the Banging On Pipes And Screaming Hall of Fame. The RRHOF shouldn't really be a big feather in anyone's cap. It took them years to induct Rush, a band who's more talented that over half of the people in that place imo, and even then, it was begrudgingly. No Pixies. No King Crimson. Mostly just acts who were commercially successful.

I'd vote for:
The Cars Cheap Trick Chicago Deep Purple Steve Miller Band The Smiths
I still don't get why NWA is up for the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. If it was a Music Hall of Fame, then yes. But what's with putting rappers in?

I don't think people realize how interconnected all the genres in the R&RHOF are, including R&B, Funk, Folk, Blues, classic Country, Jazz, and yes, even Hip-Hop and Rap. They all have common roots.
I think the only genres you won't see represented there are outright pop and modern country.

the most level headed and impartial statement I could give re: Red Hot Chili Peppers is that they are perhaps the worst musical group of all time

I want The Smiths in there just for the epic and self-righteous Morrissey rant about it.
An aside, the new Janet record is very, very good. Listened to it at work the other day and I was impressed.

I'm sorry, but NWA deserves an induction just as much as Weird Al or Cheap Trick does. Last time I went to the museum in Cleveland, there was a lot of focus on how rock music was born out of a blend of many different genres, from blues to jazz to gospel to swing to country. It made me see their inclusion of rap and pop music as a way to carry on and honor that tradition.

Rap is clearly from the music tree of rock and roll Just like Prog Rock,Heavy Metal and any other number of genre's there is nothing realling "rolling" about them but they are part of the tree of genre's that would not exist without 50s rock and roll.
