I think it was done in a really dumb way(though I liked Summer's promo). Everyone knows that WWE isn't real so why even acknowledge the fact that they're engaged if it hampers your storyline? They could of easily ignored it in my opinion They way crowds want to make themselves part of the show and hijack shows, you really think they would allow this angle to continue like this news didn't break? Considering that everyone already knew they were dating, ya I don't see how this is really any different. There have been reports on them dating for a long time and even some reports came out they were looking to adopt a child together. If the crowd didn't hijack the feud when Lana/Dolph showed no chemistry, I don't see why they would now.

So, they should keep one of the biggest decisions they've ever made in their lives under wraps for the sake of oudated carny traditions that only fool five year-olds? WWE decided to break them up on-screen when people knew they were living together, and it's WWE who decided that their real life engagement meant that the story line had to be abruptly taken out back and shot. Nothing ruins the illusion harder than arbitrarily letting real life write the plot at inconsistent points. They chose to be in the pro wrestling business. It is a different world, but afforded them an awesome life traveling the globe? Pro wrestling is pro wrestling and they are fully aware how things operate. They enjoy that life and want to become more successful? Don't plaster your engagement all over social media and have it end up on freaking TMZ when you are in the middle of an angle where you hate each other. Everyone has to make sacrifices in life. Suck it up. Wait until this angle is over to get engaged. That just seems like common sense. How on earth is common sense the side of "keep your life, despite being a public figure of enough note that TMZ reports on your engagement, entirely under wraps if it conflicts at all with the character you play on television"? Kayfabe is dead. The crazy measures people used to take to ensure the 'authenticity' of the business aren't needed when everyone knows it isn't real, and asking the wrestlers to let something completely useless and outdated rule their lives like that is not only too much to ask, but bizarrely inconsistent in an age where WWE is actively cultivating the idea that what you're seeing isn't real. They've got Total Divas, which while just as not real as Raw is, acknowledges John Cena and Nikki Bella being in a relationship. They put out DVDs and network specials acknowledging things aren't real and talking about backstage shit. Why should we expect the wrestlers to let kayfabe rule their own lives when the company basically ignores it at this point? That's demented. And, I'll stress again. WWE forced this storyline onto them while they were in a relationship. This wasn't them hooking up while they worked together like Steph and Triple H. Are you actually saying they should have cooled off their relationship because WWE wanted their characters to be opposed to each other for a little while?

I am say that they could have waited to get engaged until the angle came to an end. I don't see what is so crazy about that. I don't know that their engagement would have been reported on TMZ if they weren't feuding on screen. I don't think it would change their relationship that much if they got engaged around Christmas or whenever this was done.

They should of never been taken apart in the first place This, at the very least maybe Rusev is a tweener instead of full blown heel, but at this point Rusev should have been marching towards a world title shot.

But why is the line "it's okay if you're in a relationship while we break you up on-screen, but don't you dare move that relationship forward". There's no way of knowing if the Rusev/Summer story was planned as a long-term thing, why keep their lives on hold for the sake of the characters they play on television? And considering TMZ reports on wrestling stuff, I don't think it's a stretch to assume they'd report the story anyway. And this still doesn't explain why they should have felt beholden to kayfabe in a time when nobody else is, including the company itself. Wrestling is no longer about pretending shit is real even in real life; it's a regular television show now, and people who feel like living the gimmick and notable for putting way more effort into things than is expected.

Who even leaks this? Does Lana have a TMZ reported on speed dial? "Hey, we're buying a house this week." "We're engaged!!" "Rusev reached 9 on the ruler tonight, that business skirt works magic"

It should've been saved for WrestleMania. Rusev and Lana could have rehashed the reunion of Randy Savage and Elizabeth! This comparison always makes me chuckle. I like Rusev and Lana just fine but they're nowhere near Macho and Liz on, well....any level really.

I assumed the angle was leading to Lana turning on Ziggler at elimination chamber so she can help Rusev win the title. When he got injured that through that out the window. I also think WWE assumed all Rusev heat came from Lana so breaking them up would be a good start for her career. They work well together obviously because of their connection outside the ring, keep it simple and let them ride the wave.

The only good thing about Rusev and Lana breaking up is it was great character development for Rusev and Summer Are. Lana not so much.

So you're saying that two people who love each other and want to get married should not get married because a scripted storyline on-screen dictates that they're not supposed to like each other? Because if that is what you're saying then... no. That's not how life works.

Everyone watching knows it's fake, no one who is watching takes issue with that, and WWE blatantly exposes it as fake constantly with them doing things like inter-cutting scenes of evil, self-absorbed assholes talking about how much they love the troops or doing the, "I'm leaning on the fourth wall and saying you kissed ass or whored yourself out to get to the top!" shtick on a weekly basis. Plus, I mean, even Total Divas outright comes out and admits everything is scripted and talks about their reactions to angles they're put in and stuff.

And, I'll stress again. WWE forced this storyline onto them while they were in a relationship. This wasn't them hooking up while they worked together like Steph and Triple H. Are you actually saying they should have cooled off their relationship because WWE wanted their characters to be opposed to each other for a little while? When the original split happened, wasn't there "newz" that it was done intentionally by McMahon or whoever because they didn't think Rusev was the kind of guy they thought Lana should be dating?

Yeah, I doubt there was any merit to it, but people had a lot of fun with that in the engagement thread with Vince terrified gifs.

"Rusev reached 9 on the ruler tonight, that business skirt works magic" Who knows? Maybe they were as sick of this angle as the rest of us, and figured that leaking the information that they are very much together (and setting about making their relationship permanent) would scupper the WWE's dumbass writers and force them to abandon this drivel. If only this would finally teach the WWE to stop messing about with the private lives of their employees, then that would be a big win. Will they get punished for it? The WWE is often as petty and unprofessional as a company can possibly be, so it wouldn't surprise me at all. This is the same company that turns real relationships into drama-laden storylines, that asks siblings to say terrible things about one another, that puts people on television and asks them to wrestle, in the full knowledge that they are untrained and unready. And with all that, I can't believe anyone would advocate that Miroslav Barnyashev (not to be all shooty, but just a reminder that these are real people in a real relationship) hold off on proposing to CJ Perry because their TV characters have a storyline currently in place where they're involved with other people. That's insane.
