I've been saying for a long time that the receivers and O-line make the offense, rather than the quarterback. Right now, I can't think of a better example of this than the Bengals. As long as your QB isn't a bum like Curtis Painter, you can take even a mediocre passer (like Dalton) and stomp most opponents with minimal effort. How you do against truly great teams is another story, but most squads lack the talent on defense to do much of anything about it.
This is also why Peyton Manning's declining abilities are more apparent than ever. Many of the players who really helped the Broncos' offense work properly are gone. While Peyton has been steadily declining for years now, this was largely hidden by the laundry list of talented receivers who formerly filled out the roster. After losing some of them, it's now much harder for him to play the way that he used to.
