People who write and sing about love and heartbreak are con artists ever. I agree with Frank Zappa on love songs "It's quite a challenge to reach somebody emotionally without using words that have literal connections. To perform expressively on an instrument, I have respect for that. To get to the level of performance where you are no longer thinking about operating a piece of machinery, that is worthy of respect. Writing a song about why somebody left you, that's stupid. The performers and composers don't necessarily believe in what they're saying or what they are doing, but they know that if you write a song about love, it's got a 3,000 per cent better chance of going on the radio than if you write a song about celery. It's a buy and a sell. And so the value system builds up from that. What I think of as the emotional content of music is probably a lot different than what you think of. Since I write music, I know what the techniques are. If I wanted to write something that would make you weep, I could do it. There's ways to do it. It's a cheap shot. (...) It's not just sentimental. There are certain harmonic climates that you can build. There are certain notes of the scale that you can play within a harmonic climate to "wreak pathos," and it's very predictable." That Frank Zappa quote is one of the most elitist, arrogant and dumbest f***ing things I've read in quite some time. How the hell can anyone consider writing about the one subject that most people are likely to relate to a sham? Seriously, what the f***? What? Oh, her new song's pretty good too.

*shrugs* I liked it. I can see if people are getting tired of Adele because her subject matter is starting to get repetitive, but it still works for me.

So, I've listening to this song... alot. It reminds me of "Turning Tables" off 21, which was my favorite song off of 21, therefore I approve. Can't wait for 25 to come out. It's gonna destroy.

Same exact thought. I don't think it's the same song by any means, but my mind did go there. My word. That chorus. Golden vocals. As golden as it gets vocally.

The easier comparison is "Someone Like You" with the tempo much slower than "Turning Tables". But the bombast of the accompaniment is fuller and more supportive than the bare bones simplicity of the piano riffing in "Someone". Again, awesome first track, it's good to see her back. Adele, whether you like her song material or not, is one of those once in a generation type voices in an era where her sincerity and power is a welcome diversion from the electronic hooks and catching poppy choruses of her other contemporaries.

Album release day... GO BUY IT. Seriously, it lives up to the hype. Spring for the deluxe edition at Target with the three bonus tracks as well.

My review so far
Hello - I don't like it. It makes sense so far in the story of the album, but as a song it really brings nothing new to the table
Send My Love - Meh. Again not bad but could've been better.
I Miss You - So far my favorite track easily. This should've been the first single.

I guarantee they used Hello as the single purely because of the opening lyrics, and promoting it as "Hey, Adele's back!".

I just watched her on SNL. She is a f***ing monster singer, she reminded me a lot of Whitney Houston actually.
But her band, and the music behind her, is the lamest, lightest, no-happening crap. It would've been better if she sang that song by herself, because the music was so weak that it sounded arbitrary. She had 9 musicians up onstage and all you could hear was some light percussion and keyboard, because her voice is huge and just destroys that weak shit they're playing behind her.
I wish she'd quit messing around and get a real band behind her, and start doing some badass music. She's got an all time great voice but this "demo" she goes for is holding her down.

Adele is insanely, insanely talented and that performance tonight was bonkers. Rather than Adele for the Whitney comparison, I'd go with Sam Smith and not just because of his great "How Will I Know."

I remember watching Adele on MTV 2 in about 2007/08 ish playing a small venue looking scruffy as anything singing 'Hometown Glory'. You could tell the talent was there and she's come a heck of a long way since. Great voice but man the music to me is just so boring and basic which is a shame.

Great voice, but I find her songs more boring than Norah Jones

I finally got around to listening to the entire album. If I had to put a rating on it, I'd give it something in the 3/5 or 3.5/5 range. The majority of the songs bored me, but there's a couple on there that are really good. The best song on the album is easily 'A Million Years Ago'.

It's currently on track to sell more than 2.5 million copies...in its first week.
Adele's back, y'all.

"When We Were Young" hits me in the right spot. Pretty much based on that, 25 is a late addition to my Christmas list.
