You ever find yourself admiring a rival player despite hating the team he plays for with a passion?
For example, as much as he's torched the Raps over the years, I like Paul Pierce a lot.
I was a Derek Jeter fan.
I think Vincent Kompany is a great dude and I've always admired the play of Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba.
I loved the way Jeremy Roenick played, even though he was a Leafs killer.

Being from Boston I think fans here have always had respect for guys like mariano Rivera, magic Johnson even Derek Jeter to an extent despite the "Jeter sucks..." Movement

It's been said already, but Derek Jeter.
As a Sox fan, there was nobody I feared more on any of those Yankees teams. He played 100% every night and more importantly, you just *KNEW* he was going to get the big hit to crush your dreams. Off the field, you never really heard a bad thing about the guy. He always carried himself with such class. Pro sports could use more guys like him.

Miami Heat is still my team, but I respect the hell out of Lebron and the Cavs.

Not a Cubs fan by any means, but they had a lot of guys I liked watching play: Greg Maddux, Mark Grace. Current favorite is Anthony Rizzo.

I like that LeGarrette Blount character. It's fun to see a 250 pound dude outrunning everybody down the field.

I'm a University of Kentucky basketball fan and I hate Duke with a passion but I have huge respect for Coach Krzyzewski.
Also, while he was a little before my time and I never got to watch him play, I have nothing but respect for Walter Payton. I have said for years that if the Detroit Lions only win two games a year, as long as those two wins were over the Bears, I would be happy. But seeing film of Payton and hearing the way former players talk about him, I respect him. I know there was a book a few years ago that painted Payton in a not so positive light but I don't know how much was factual or anything.

A die hard Indians fan, I'm contractually obligated to loathe anything New York or Boston. Having said that, Jeter, Rivera, and Pedro Martinez (even though he made my guys look like idiots) were just joys to watch. Also, Frank Thomas. Got to watch him live back in 1995, in a game my boys came back from 6 down to win and take the lead in the division on the way to the pennant, and Big Hurt hit a ball that made a sound I have NEVER heard coming off a bat. It was an absolute monster bomb, and I can look back and say, "I saw one of the greatest power hitters ever, live".

Back in the late 90s, the Yankees had several guys who you couldn't help but like in Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, and Jorge Posada. All of those guys are gone now.
I hate all the teams in the NFC East, but the great guys they had were Michael Strahan, Miles Austin (Monmouth guy represent), and Darrell Green.
Right now, I don't know of anyone on rival teams that I can say I particularly respect right now.

I defy you to find an NHL fan who, regardless of their favorite team, didn't respect the hell out of Steve Yzerman.

Ryan Giggs, being a top level player for around 23 years and a total professional, it's really rare to find anyone who didn't at the very least respect him.
