I gave a ton to last season and did my part for this one as well. Not nearly as much….but I can’t buy the entire digital archives twice. I don’t even see them on offer anyway. But I bought the Blu-ray and the season pass so I hope it gets moving quickly

It's almost time for the most blessed of Thanksgiving Day traditions with the annual MST3K Turkey Day marathon and this year it's going to be a full two day event stretching both Thanksgiving and Black Friday:

This one isn't progressing like the first one. Yeah, I remember the ones on Kickstarter would hit the minimum pretty quickly and then it would be a bit of a slow crawl until the end when it would pick up and they'd get a full season. This one's got 4 days left and it's still only at 40% of the way to the minimum 6 episodes. I know the cast couldn't really promote this one because of the strike, but I imagine doing it on their own platform rather than on Kickstarter also hurt the cause a bit.

Yeah, you can only ask people for money to make your show so many times before they lose interest in doing that when there are so many other entertainment options available for just the cost of the streaming platforms.
They need to figure out how to be able to make seasons of the show without depending on fans' money, or realize that they show isn't feasible to make under these conditions.
(Also, I think a lot of fans simply don't like the last few seasons of the show and don't want to support more of this version of it).

At the end of dinner last night, I mentioned that I'd likely get home and check out the MST3K marathon a mused "I hope it's The Giant Gila Monster".
I get home, and...it's The Giant Gila Monster. I had no idea the schedule had already been posted, so I was slightly weirded out.

The campaign didn't meet its minimum goal. I'm not going to lie --- I'm gutted, but I'm not devastated.
I think I pledged around 5-6 times more (around $1k in total) than I usually do for the Rifftrax/MST3K campaigns.
I enjoyed Season 13 a lot, and had some really awesome times live-posting on the official boards. That being said, I acknowledge that not everyone's experience with this season was as positive as mine and that's totally okay. (I didn't mind the perk delivery delays, for instance).
I really like the show's attempts to be more inclusive, so I see those particular complaints as being irrational and not constructive.
All in all, I'm not sure what happened behind the scenes but I'm not as upset as I thought I would be. MST3K has been through this before and will find a way back.

I don’t disagree with the reasons Joel thinks it failed…but I think there were some unforced errors too. First…running it on your own thing instead of kickstarter just completely closed it off to people who are already inside the bubble. And yes…many of them were upset about how the rewards were handled last time…it was frustrating but didn’t stop me from pledging again. The biggest issue is that the Gizmoplex hosting the last season just closed the whole product off from growing new eyes. It’s fine for me…I’m not new eyes. But the program was never going to grow if people can’t have access to…or even know of the existence of…the show. They had to make a bigger deal out of the show existing than just saying…hey…let’s fund some more! The install base isn’t going to do that every time. It’s not feasible. One thing they did not consider at all is how many of those kickstarter pledgers last time fell off the entire thing in the last two years because they don’t routinely go to a new app or site to watch what they helped fund. They shrunk their base and then kind of pissed off some of the ones left…and then thought this would work. Which it wouldn’t.
I have no doubt we will see more of this in some form again. But if they want to grow they need to change some things. Even if it means licensing the last season to a far more popular service or tv channel with a much grander audience opportunity for nothing. Because I don’t see any other way they’re going to grow the fanbase and keep going. They already showed they’ve paired it down too much for the model they wanted.

I think we've been using this thread as a catch-all for related riffing projects, so I thought I'd let you all know that yesterday, Rifftrax launched their Kickstarter campaign for 2024. They're gonna do a live riff on POINT BREAK!
Head over to Rifftrax.com/kickstarter to make this a reality!

So Rifftrax is running a gauntlet of movies made infamous by online reviewers/borderline meme movies. First was Creating Rem Lezar, now The Amazing Bulk.
