Dude, you're literally talking like George Lucas committed some horrible crime or something. This isn't Bill Cosby or Chris Benoit we're discussing here. The guy is looking for sympathy by constantly lambasting against those who helped make him rich. He deserves no sympathy especially when in no way did they force his hand in any of his decisions. The argument keeps coming back to the fact he has the right to edit his movies. YES HE DOES. That isn't an argument I'm fighting. What I am saying is that he has no right to blame anyone but himself for anything that he did or didn't do. It's a sickening display of self pity from a man who should be above all that. Hell, I wouldn't have one complaint if he were to come out and say that the film edits were simply done for profit. At least it's an honest answer. Just to hear this guy stew about over a franchise that has made him insanely rich and famous just irks me.

Considering the age we live in nowadays, it's probably good that he got out while he did. Now if he could only stay away. Aww..who am I kidding? He'll be back after Episode 7's release apologizing that the movie wasn't his vision. Or perhaps saying that the media is racist because his newest movie got mixed reviews. He does it to himself. No one is forcing his hand. And that's why he deserves no sympathy. Shit, I'm inclined to applaud Lucas for being as patient as he's been with his critics. If I had that many hour long online rants about how terrible I was and the number of unfunny parodies about me that he's gotten, I probably would flipped out and had a major public meltdown- and I don't mean a Twitter meltdown, I'm talking the kind of thing that gets you arrested - eons ago. No different than any other big name celebrity or politician. The difference is they were either mature enough to handle it with grace or they ignored it altogether. And you're going to get arrested because someone made fun of your space adventure made for kids? I think that's a tad extreme. I have read forum posts, numerous over the years, where people literally said they wanted George Lucas to die. If he just lost it and snapped at a heckler in response, my reaction would not be "what a baby", it'd be "wow dude, you held it back for that long?"

Shocker, getting called a talentless tosser for many years in multi-hour videos and website articles by people can be a little wearing. Who knew?
Like StarSpangled, I'm more impressed he hasn't snapped and had a violent frothing attack on the millionth person to rib him about Jar Jar yet.

He can't defend his scripts and direction, so he tends to whine, usually citing strawmen.

To be honest IF he just released the Theatrical versions on DVD properly (NOT laserdisc rips) &/or Blu Ray then I'd be happy and wouldn't give a crap what he did to it then (As I'm sure most fans would be the same way).
The fact that I have to resort to bootlegs to enjoy "Star Wars" is annoying

To be honest IF he just released the Theatrical versions on DVD properly (NOT laserdisc rips) &/or Blu Ray then I'd be happy and wouldn't give a crap what he did to it then (As I'm sure most fans would be the same way). The fact that I have to resort to bootlegs to enjoy "Star Wars" is annoying Exactly, his defense was they were unfinished and it would be too expensive. The second part is inexcusable as he would easily recover that money in the re-release of the originals. Fact is, he has played God with the re-releases and has to constantly tinker with them, as we all know he is never satisfied. Obviously many of the changes made in the 2004/2011 editions were made to keep continuity with the prequels. The emperor in The Empire Strikes Back, changing Boba Fett's voice, removing Sebastian Shaw's eyebrows in Return of the Jedi and bringing Hayden Christensen in at the end of Jedi. Unless of course they just didn't have the technology in 1982 to shave Shaw's eyebrows. I understand why he did this(except for Christensen at the end of ROTJ), but at the same time it is frustrating for people that watched the originals. I also believe the changes to the originals are why many older fans don't like the prequels. Heck, I actually thought Revenge of the Sith was pretty good, as it gave us most of what we wanted to see. I do believe Lucas was only thinking with his wallet in marketing Episodes 1 and 2 heavily towards children. While the original 3, especially Return of the Jedi, definitely were geared towards children and adults, the happy ending in the series made that very acceptable and it wasn't geared as heavily towards children as Episodes 1 and 2. The fact that we all knew that Anakin would be turning into Vader and Episode 3 would have a very dark ending, made it a bad film for children. I remember watching the film in the theater, a kid yelled " Go Anakin!" and everyone kind of groaned, then of course an hour and half later several children were crying in the theater. As far as the movies being unfinished, they will never be finished as far as Lucas is concerned. He has tinkered with every version since the '97 special edition. The man just can't help himself and it's probably a good thing Disney took the franchise away before the movies were unrecognizable to the original fans.

Lucas is full of shit. Yes, some SFX here and there needed to be cleaned up perhaps, but the core of the original trilogy was rock solid. Did he really think that Vader's silent dilemma at the end of Jedi really needed a "Noooooooo" in order to be complete? Did R2D2 need a rock placed in front of him? Did Jabba the Hutt need to be shoved into the first film to give the exact same information Han gets when he talks to Greedo? Why didn't Lucas script Han to duck Greedo's shot? He could have done it. Lucas just likes to change things to conform to his ever shittier ideas. He even undermines good work he himself directed.

It's not about people saying they don't like the prequels I imagine. I have to believe it has more to do with the fact that people who don't even know him call him an asshole, a piece of shit, say he should die, say he's worse the Hitler, that he doesn't even deserve to own a Super 8 let alone direct big budget movies. All of this to a person they've never met, because their vision of HIS movies doesn't mesh up with THEIR version of what HIS movies should be. And these are people who call themselves fans of his work! I can imagine after years of that, no matter how thick or thin skinned you may be that's gotta wear on a guy. I don't blame him.
Also, if it weren't for the prequels there is no way in HELL anybody would be talking about a new Star Wars movie. People forget that just because they don't like the prequels, to pretty much any Star Wars fan born between 1995 and 2005 those are the movies that made them fans. Millions upon millions of kids grew up on the prequels. This franchise would be a distant memory if Lucas didn't make the (hugely successful I might add) prequels

I agree that if the originals were available untouched next to the edits no one would have ever cared or hated the edits.
As for the prequel series. It was good. Revenge of the Sith was great. And for the record I liked jar jar

Lucas does get a little eye-rollingly "Woe is me!" at times, but there are few things more annoying than the entitlement displayed by hardcore fans of sci-fi franchises.

If he wants to do experimental films, nothing is stopping him. He can surely finance that hobby himself. I would love to see the internet backlash if George Lucas set up a Kickstarter campaign to finance an experimental film project.
