TNA Impact! [71%] December 21st, 2006 TAPED at the Impact Zone Announcers: Mike Tenay & Don West- After being turned on by two different partners, Johnny Devine obviously thought the third time was the charm as he asked several guys backstage to be his new partner. Everybody was basically like “nah, I’m straight brah.” If Drake existed by now, Devine would go listen to him after this. [64%] Wait, are you saying that, as a time traveler, you can't introduce him to Drake? Would that f*** up the space-time continuum and alter the rap game irrevocably? Where is Ja? We need to get him on this. After I do that, you could say that... Nothing Was the Same

BREAKING NEWS: Huge Tag Match Added to Turning Point PPV; Tag Title Match on Impact This Week
Those of you that saw the ending of last week’s Impact witnessed a historic moment. Samoa Joe & Kurt Angle shaking hands to symbolize a united front against the Latin American XChange after the group had assaulted both men in consecutive weeks. Management Director Jim Cornette was quick to act on the development and created a new match for Turning Point. Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe will team up for the very first time to take on LAX’s Homicide & Hernandez! It should be noted that Jim Cornette made it very clear that is a NON-TITLE match as Angle & Joe haven’t done anything to earn a tag title shot and this match is focused more on revenge than any title. LAX isn’t being let off the hook though as far as their championship duties. According to Cornette, the reason why he hasn’t taken any disciplinary action against LAX for their heinous actions is because they are the NWA World Tag Team Champions. He’s worried about damaging the prestige of the belts by letting them rot on a shelf while LAX is suspended or simply striping them of the titles. “As much as I hate to admit it, they earned those belts. They deserve to be champions. They are thugs and borderline criminals but they’ve earned the right to be called the best tag team in the world. I can’t rightfully take that away from them.” What Mr. Cornette can do, however, is force them to defend those titles! This Thursday on Impact, LAX will defend their tag titles against not just one but TWO teams as they take on America’s Most Wanted & The Briscoes in a three-way tag match. Homicide & Hernandez don’t even have to be pinned to lose their titles. Mr. Cornette also mentioned that AMW and the Briscoes are set to face off at Turning Point regardless of who wins the tag title match on Impact. If the Briscoes or AMW win the straps, their match at the PPV will become a title match. Current Card for Turning Point:
NWA World Heavyweight Championship “The Monster” Abyss (w/ James Mitchell) vs. Sting ©
Tag Team Grudge Match Latin American XChange (Homicide & Hernandez) (w/ Konnan) vs. The Dream Team (Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe)
“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “The Champ” Christian Cage
Orlando Street Fight Serotonin (Raven & Masato Tanaka) vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon)
No Time Limit Senshi vs. Eric Young
Potential NWA World Tag Team Championship Match America’s Most Wanted vs. The Briscoes
Chris Sabin WILL defend his X-Division Championship against an opponent TBD

TNA Impact [74%] December 28th, 2006 TAPED from the Impact Zone Announcers: Mike Tenay & Don West
1. The show kicked off with some star power as Kurt Angle killed Andy Douglas. Sorry if you’re a fan of The Naturals but you must be on some other shit if you thought this geek had any shot against Angle. His Turning Point partner Samoa Joe watched on from ringside as Douglas tapped furiously to the Angle Lock. After the match, Chase Stevens ran in to try and get some revenge for his partner but Joe was right there to damn near kick his head into the back row with a brutal Yakuza Kick. RIP The Naturals. [**¾]
- After the match, Mike Tenay came into the ring with a mic to interview “The Dream Team”, as they’ve been dubbed by the TNA Marketing Team. Both men basically said that they had their problems in the past and that one day, they WILL solve those problems in the ring...but first, they got some business to take care of. That business being giving LAX their receipts for jumping them like cowards! You know, as popular as Joe is, I think letting him be on the same level as a star like Kurt Angle elevated him in the eyes of some of our more casual fans as the Impact Zone cheered both men like crazy. [94%]
- TO THE BACK~! Ron Killings apparently hasn’t learned to be careful with them white women as he was trying to mack on Ms. Brooks backstage. The busty assistant didn’t seem to be taking Truth seriously at all but that didn’t stop him from trying to impress her by showing off some of the dance moves I taught him. 2006, say hello the dab and Schmoney Dance. Ms. Brooks didn’t look like she was feeling it but Killings was positive that she’d be impressed if he hit the Quan. While doing so, he inadvertently smacked Robert Roode in the face as he walked up behind him! Truth tried to go, “my bad” but Roode wasn’t trying to hear it. He yelled at Truth that he’s tired of him hanging around his assistant and trying to turn her into one of his “hootchie mamas. Don’t you know how to treat a lady?”
“Of course I do!”, Truth replied before kissing Traci’s hand in a gentlemanly fashion. Did...did Ms. Brooks just blush there for a second? Either way, Roode continued to get uppity with Killings before challenging him a match next week. Truth accepted and that’s one less match I have to plan for the TV after Turning Point. [63%]
2. In a fun battle that got a decent amount of time, Petey Williams tried to get some much needed momentum with a win against Eric Young. The match was competitive as both Canadians exchanged holds but it seemed like EY was gonna come out on top when he dropped Petey with a Death Valley Driver and signaled for his signature Piledriver. Senshi came down the ramp to start some trouble, however, and quickly hopped on the apron, causing EY to take a swing at him. This was the babyface’s undoing as he turned around into a Canadian Destroyer from Petey to give his opponent the victory. You best believe Senshi was talking some shit after costing his rival a match. [***½]
- A video aired hyping the Orlando Street Fight between Team 3D & Serotonin at Turning Point. Don’t worry about the specifics, it just let fans know they are gonna see some crazy shit in this match. [66%]
3. Before his match with X-Division Champion Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine asked the champ to be his new tag partner. Sabin was like “lolno” causing Devine to jump him before the bell and control the early goings of the match. As good as Devine was, there’s a reason why Sabin is the champ and he proved that tonight as he fought his way back into the match and eventually hit the Cradle Shock for an academic three count. [***¼]
- After a commercial break, Chris Sabin & Jaime Koeppe were swapping saliva when Kevin Nash & Austin Starr came into their locker room. Sarcastically clapping his hands, Nash congratulated Sabin on defeating such top-notch competition like Johnny Devine. “I mean after all, he’s beaten...uh. I can’t think of anybody.” Starr added that he’s never even seen Devine hit his finisher before. Complete burial of Devine but f*** it, what’s he gonna do? Quit? Might as well put in those applications at Subway, brah. Anyway, Nash said that if Sabin wanted to prove himself against some REAL competition, he’d take on his boy Austin Starr. When Sabin rightfully pointed that he actually beat Austin in a title match last month, Nash said that it was just an off-night for Starr. “If you and Austin wrestled 100 times, he’d beat ya 99 times. Congratulations, last month was your one win.”
Sabin quickly agreed to defend the belt against the former ROH champion but Starr had one more request. He wanted the match to be Best 2 out of 3 Falls so he could sweep the champ in two straight falls and prove that he’s the superior wrestler. With Koeppe backing him up the whole way, Sabin agreed to the stipulation and shook hands with Starr to make it “official.” As they were leaving, Nash tried to hit on Koeppe but was quickly curved. No poontang pie for you, Nash. [68%]
- Marcell Cor Von was interviewed by Jeremy Borash backstage and it was announced that Cor Von was set to take on D’Lo Brown in an “Exhibition” match. Cor Von said that it was rather convenient that TNA Management saw two “brothers” talking about uniting together and put them in a match against each other at their earliest convenience. JB denied the claim of any kind of discrimination by management and mentioned that this was simply a case where two big names came back to the company to re-establish themselves so it only makes sense to pair them together on PPV. Cor Von wasn’t convinced but he promised D’Lo that he’d keep the match clean on Sunday to make sure that the better man wins. Cor Von thinks that’s gonna be him, of course. [83%]
4. As Frankie Kazarian locked up with Jerry Lynn in the penultimate match of the night, Scott Steiner sat down at the commentary booth and picked up a headset. The announcers mentioned that Steiner was gonna make his “X-Division” debut against a pioneer of the division in the form of Jerry Lynn at Turning Point. As you can probably imagine, Steiner was insane on commentary, essentially burying the entire X-Division and saying that Lynn “couldn’t clean Big Poppa Pump’s boots.” Steiner said that he was gonna catch a body on Sunday and show the entire division that he means business. Meanwhile, in the ring, Lynn picked up the win with a Cradle Piledriver after a decent match. [**¾]
5. After a video aired hyping AJ/Christian at the PPV (yeah, didn’t have room to fit them on this show so this’ll have to make do), it was time for the main event! It was a big one as the NWA World Tag Team Championships were on the line as LAX defended against America’s Most Wanted and The Briscoes. Each team’s respective manager watched on from ringside and cheered their squad on as the action was fast and furious. I was hoping for a stellar match here and I didn’t get it. The match was good and above average for TV standards but not much better than that. Lots of tandem moves were on display as each team came close to winning the match. Finally, it came down to Mark Briscoe being isolated in the ring and lifted up onto the shoulders of Hernandez. Homicide quickly springboarded off the ropes and hit a Cutter on Mark off the shoulders of his partner. They call that the Rear View 5150 and that’s ballgame, Maggle. LAX hang onto the tag straps heading into their big match against Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle in three days! [***]
- The actual “main event” segment was a contract signing for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship match at Turning Point. With Jim Cornette moderating the signing, both Sting and Abyss signed the contract with no real incident. It’s when he gave both men a chance to say their final piece that things got heated. James Mitchell, of course, talked for Abyss and told Sting that he was yesterday’s news. He was a relic living on borrowed time and on Sunday, that time comes to an end at the hands of his monster. When it was his turn to speak, Sting said that Mitchell was right about a lot of things. Physically, he had lost some things. He was old, he was beat-up, he didn’t move as well he used to. What he hasn’t lost is the fire that burns that inside him that keeps him going and gave him the drive to win his title in the first place. Sting said that if Abyss really wanted the world title, he better come ready for a war because he’s gonna have to take that title from his dead body!
“...Ok.”, said Mitchell right before Abyss snatched Sting by the throat. Unlike two weeks ago, there was no mind games tonight as The Monster Chokeslammed Sting right through the table that they had signed the contract on! There was plenty of heat from the crowd as Abyss raised the NWA World title and placed one foot on The Icon’s chest. The broadcast went off the air with the announcers doing a final hard sell for the PPV and Mitchell promising that this was only a glimpse of the future. [77%]

NWA World Heavyweight Championship“The Monster” Abyss (w/ James Mitchell) vs. "The Icon" Sting © - The entire feud has been one-sided so I'm thinking Sting retains this go around. Tag Team Grudge MatchLatin American XChange (Homicide & Hernandez) (w/ Konnan) vs. The Dream Team (Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe) - This one is tough as it could really go either way in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of the tag champs losing but Angle and Joe need to be built up for their money match. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “The Champ” Christian Cage - The Champ sneaks out a win against Styles. X-Division ChampionshipBest 2 out of 3 Falls"The Common Denominator of Greatness" Austin Starr (w/ Kevin Nash) vs. "The Future" Chris Sabin (c) (w/ Jaime Koeppe) - Starr gets the win to further his story with Nash and Shelley. Orlando Street FightSerotonin (Raven & Masato Tanaka) vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) - Serotonin are just starting out so they got to get the W here. I suspect we might see a third member debut here. No Time Limit Senshi vs. "Showtime" Eric Young - This one is tough but I'll do a coin flip and go with Senshi Winners Become #1 Contenders to NWA World Tag Team ChampionshipAmerica’s Most Wanted vs. The Briscoes - Briscoes got all the momentum heading into this one. Special Exhibition Match
D'Lo Brown vs. Marcell Cor Von - No amount of head bobbing is gonna save D'Lo from The Pounce! Dark Match (Will be shown live on TNAWrestling.com)
Jerry Lynn vs. Scott Steiner - Steiner win his debut X Division match. Bonus Question #1: Will Sabin/Starr go the full three falls or will somebody get a clean sweep? When you got those two dudes going at it you don't stop the match at two falls. That baby is going to three! Bonus Question #2: How many matches will have outside interference that directly leads to the finish? 3 (Starr/Sabin, LAX/Dream Team, and Serotonin/Team 3D) Bonus Question #3: What will be the best match of the night? Final Card for Turning Point
NWA World Heavyweight Championship “The Monster” Abyss (w/ James Mitchell) vs. "The Icon" Sting ©
Sting's looking like a chump while Abyss is coming off winning a battle royal and punking Sting out for weeks. It's time for new blood, man.
Tag Team Grudge Match Latin American XChange (Homicide & Hernandez) (w/ Konnan) vs. The Dream Team (Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe)
As much as I love LAX, no way are you letting Angle or Joe take that first loss in a tag team match.
“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “The Champ” Christian Cage
Cage is sadly on a downward swing, so AJ gets the nod.
X-Division Championship Best 2 out of 3 Falls "The Common Denominator of Greatness" Austin Starr (w/ Kevin Nash) vs. "The Future" Chris Sabin (c) (w/ Jaime Koeppe)
The MV3 (Valuable Vascular Vegan), Mr. It, The Starr of the Show and The Man In High Demand gets the win to further drive a wedge between Shelley and Nash.
Orlando Street Fight Serotonin (Raven & Masato Tanaka) vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon)
Team 3D I guess because they can't look like goobers for the entire feud. It's Serotonin, not the Wyatts.
No Time Limit Senshi vs. "Showtime" Eric Young
Senshi kills him dead.
Winners Become #1 Contenders to NWA World Tag Team Championship America’s Most Wanted vs. The Briscoes
AMW to set up their revenge on LAX.
Special Exhibition Match D'Lo Brown vs. Marcell Cor Von
Can't vote against my man Cor Von.
Dark Match (Will be shown live on TNAWrestling.com) Jerry Lynn vs. Scott Steiner
Steiner hits the Steiner Screwdriver for the win.
Bonus Question #1: Will Sabin/Starr go the full three falls or will somebody get a clean sweep? Three falls.
Bonus Question #2: How many matches will have outside interference that directly leads to the finish? It's TNA. Four matches. Bonus Question #3: What will be the best match of the night? Starr vs. Sabin

0. It’s not often that there is a huge size differential in an X-Division match but that was the case in the dark match between Jerry Lynn & Scott Steiner. Lynn was well aware of that as he sticked and moved to keep the match as a game of cat and mouse with Steiner coming after him. Utilizing nearly two-decades worth of experience, Lynn picked his spots and kept the match competitive, having Scotty on the backfoot at a few points in the match. It wasn’t enough, however, as he Springboarded right into a Belly-to-Belly Suplex from Big Poppa Pump. The Steiner Recliner was slapped on and Lynn, with nowhere to go, was forced to tap out. [***]
TNA Turning Point [79%] December 31st, 2006 LIVE from the Impact Zone Announcers: Mike Tenay & Don West
Match #1 No Time-Limit Match “The World Warrior” Senshi vs. “Showtime” Eric Young
The opening match of the night has the potential to go literally all night (or at least, the 3 hours of PPV time that’s been set aside for us) as Eric Young faces multi-time champion Senshi. This match builds off the one they had on TV a few weeks back as moves that were hit in that match were countered tonight. Likewise, moves that were countered in that match end up connecting tonight. Despite the fact that he wrestled Young to a time-limit draw last month, it seems like Senshi wasn’t expecting this match to be as even as it is as he is clearly getting frustrated by his inability to deliver any kind of finishing blow with his educated feet. Perhaps this lead to him losing focus as he makes a massive mistake by bending over to deliver a Back Body Drop. Young is ready for it and in a flash, he has Ki upside down and spikes him with the Piledriver! One, two, three! EY picks up the big singles win and Senshi seems to be in disbelief as he slowly gets back up to his feet. Following up on the ending on their last match, EY once again sticks out his hand as a sign of respect. Unlike last time, however, Senshi grabs it and shakes, showing that he’s gained some respect for his rival. PSYCHE! Ki kicks EY below the belt before hooking him up for the Ki Krusher! The fans are not happy as Senshi sarcastically shakes EY’s hand again before spitting on his fallen form. Decent match to start out the show. [**¾]
Match #2 D’Lo Brown vs. Marcell Cor Von
Both men are looking for their first win on PPV since returning to the company in our next contest as Cor Von seemed a bit more reserved than usual when he made his entrance. None of his usual aggression is present in the early goings of this one as he always lets D’Lo out any time he backs him into a corner, never pushing the advantage when he clearly can. D’Lo doesn’t have the same reservation and because of it, he’s able to string together a combination of moves that sends Cor Von retreating to the outside. Frustrated at being out-wrestled, Cor Von stops with the pleasantries and returns to his old form as he goes back in the ring and forces Brown into the corner before working him over. From there, the match gets a bit clunky as Cor Von, as charismatic as he is, has never been a ring general. D’Lo does what he can but this match winds up being OK at best. Really glad I had this match be relatively short. Still, the fans cheer when D’Lo connects with the Sky High Powerbomb before heading to the top to hit the Lo’ Down for the victory. After the match, Cor Von briefly has a sour look on his face before smiling and raising D’Lo’s hand. This catches the Brown Man off-guard and he still doesn't seem entirely sure of whether or not to trust Cor Von. [**¾]
Match #3 Orlando Street Fight Serotonin vs. Team 3D
On paper, this looked like a wild match and both teams were willing to do their damnedest to make that a reality as weapons were filling the ring by the time the match hits the five minute mark. At one point, Raven grabs a cheese grater and rakes it over the forehead of Brother Devon, forcing him to bleed profusely. In fact, everybody in the match is busted open as it goes on. Tanaka looks like a monster as he dominates both Dudleys almost by himself as Raven just watches on from the corner. Team 3D aren’t called the greatest tag team of all time for nothing, however, and they are able to turn the tide of the match. The faces go to town on both of their opponents with chairs, trash can lids, and whatever other plunder they can get their hands on. After Tanaka takes like 3 unprotected chair shots (damn, you can see the dent in the chair), TAFKA Bubba Ray shoves his brother and tells him to GET THE TABLES~! The Impact Zone marks cheer as Devon gladly obliges to his brother’s request. The table gets set up in the ring and Ray goes to pick up Raven only to turn around and see that his brother has been laid out. I’d know that bald ass head anywhere, that’s Justin Credible! Standing over the fallen Devon, Credibly wastes no time in laying out Bubba too with a brutal shot from his signature Kendo Stick. With a smirk visible behind the crimson mask he’s wearing, Raven grabs two more Kendo Sticks and tosses one to Tanaka. Together, the trio lays waste to the Dudleys, ripping off their shirts and leaving red welts on both of their backs from all the cane shots. When Raven’s bloodlust is satisfied, he tells the other two to stop. He drags a nearly lifeless Devon to his feet and whispers something in his ear, almost as if he’s giving him his last rites. The Raven Effect followed and this one is done. I’m not big on garbage matches but the fans sure like them so who am I to complain? [***¼] Match #4 X-Division Championship Best Two out of Three Falls “The Vascular Vegetarian” Austin Starr (w/ Kevin Nash) vs. “The Future” Chris Sabin (c) (w/ Jaime Koeppe)
Time for the “workrate” match of night as Chris Sabin once again puts his X-Division crown on the line against a man that’s never short on confidence, Austin Starr. Unlike last time, however, Sabin has to beat Starr twice in one night. From a pure in-ring standpoint, these are two of the absolute best that the company has to offer right now and they put it on display tonight as they went through several complex sequences at an incredibly fast pace without screwing up a single spot. This ends up being like a Lucha match as the first fall comes to an end after only a few minutes. Both men were fighting for dominance on the mat when Sabin hooked in a La Magistral Cradle. Three seconds later, the first fall goes to the champ! Austin can’t believe that he lost the first fall in such quick fashion and doesn’t even wait until the rest period is over to go after Sabin again. The second fall moves at a pace similar to the first one but it goes a bit longer. Again, the action is very evenly matched until Sabin goes for a Springboard off the ropes. Austin, utilizing his ring IQ, “accidentally” shoves the ref into the ropes and forces Sabin to land gut-first on the top ring rope in a very awkward position. Slumped over in pain, the champ can’t do anything as Starr lifts him up for the Brainbuster! The score is all tied up at 1-1. For the final fall, it looks like endurance and stamina is starting to play a factor as both men are clearly moving at a slower pace in an effort to conserve energy. Perhaps worried about the match being so even up until this point, Nash decides to make his presence a factor in this fall as he takes a cheap shot at Sabin behind the ref’s back while the champ is leaning over the middle rope. The interference continued after Starr sent Sabin to the outside and grabbed the ref’s attention to complain about something in his eye. While the ref checked him out, Nash blasted Sabin with a Big Boot on the outside! Jaime looked deeply concerned for her man but could do nothing but hope he kicks out when Nash tossed him back in the ring. Thankfully, he did kick out but the Big Boot clearly affected him as Starr refused to give him any time to rest and stayed on the offensive. In a spot that I’m sure ROH fans love, Starr tries to get the deciding fall via submission using the Last Chancery but Sabin is able to drag himself to the ropes. In his relentless assault on Sabin, Starr makes a crucial mistake as he goes for the 450 Splash a bit too early and ends up eating nothing but canvas. Time for Sabin to make his big fiery comeback as he runs wild on Starr, getting a close nearfall after a Springboard Dropkick that was probably the move he was trying to hit earlier. The ever familiar “This Is Awesome!” chant fills the building as both men trade big moves, none of which are enough to secure the victory despite drawing pops from the crowd. After both men go down following a Double Crossbody spot, Alex Shelley wanders out to ringside for some reason. Nash is clearly confused as to why Shelley is out here but he insists that he only wants to help as he hops up on the apron. When Starr gets to his feet and sees Shelley on the apron, he loses his shit and yells at him to quit “trying to steal [his] spotlight.” Again, Shelley insists that he’s trying to help but ends up doing more harm than good as Sabin, having got back up to his feet, Dropkicks Starr in the back and forces him to bump into Shelley! Alex takes a wacky bump off the apron as Sabin muscles Starr up for the Cradle Shock. Sabin retains the title! Outstanding match that went a little over 20 minutes. Not only is it the best of the night so far, it has to be one of the best matches we’ve had all year. After the match, Sabin wraps his arm around his woman and carries the X-title on his shoulder as he heads to the back a happy man. Starr, on the other hand, is anything but happy as he absolutely tears into Shelley for “costing” him the match. Alex looks to be apologetic as he says over and over that he was just trying to help but Starr & Nash walk away from him in disgust, ignoring Shelley as he trailed behind them and continued to plead his case. [****½]
Match #5 America’s Most Wanted (w/ Gail Kim) vs. The Briscoes (w/ Jimmy Hart)
After that Rocket Bustah of a match, one has to wonder how anybody could possibly follow such a match. Much like last month, The Briscoes were up to the challenge as this match starts out slow but really has the crowd rocking by the time they are heading towards the finishing stretch. These are two of the most experienced teams in the entire company and it shows here as both smoothly transition through several tandem moves. It took a while for the Briscoes to catch on but it seems like they are really starting to catch fire due to their great matches as a large chunk of the crowd cheers them despite them being heels. If you’re a new viewer, you couldn’t even really tell they were heels based on the totally clean finish as the Briscoes put away James Storm with the Springboard Doomsday Device. Hart hypes up his men as both make the universal “I wanna be a champion” gesture around the waists. Excellent match, just a notch below the X-title battle. [****¼]Match #6 “The Champ” Christian Cage vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles
After two stellar matches, we kinda needed a cool down match to settle the crowd and this winds up being it. It’s not a bad match by any stretch of the imagination but based on the talent in the ring, I was expecting a lot more. It just seems like they aren’t on the same page as the action is sloppy at points and the match never really reaches that next level despite both guys working hard. The story here is that AJ is the better pure athlete but Christian is clearly the more experienced as he takes advantage of every single shortcut that presents itself. That factors into the finish as Styles goes for the Styles Clash but Christian trips him with a Double Leg Takedown and cradles him for a pin. Unbeknownst to the ref, Christian places his legs on the middle rope for extra leverage and he steals the win! “The Champ” immediately bails from the ring and flexes about his deceitful victory as Styles pouts in the ring. [***¼]Match #7 Tag Team Grudge Match Latin American Xchange (w/ Konnan) vs. The Dream Team (Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe)
Even though this match is going on second-to-last, it’s being billed as a “double main event” alongside the world title match. In two consecutive weeks, LAX attacked Angle & Joe and left them beaten and bloodied on TV. Even though Joe and Angle have had their issues in the past, they made the decision to unite for this one match in order to gain some revenge. After Angle takes the initiative and decides to start for his team (Joe argued with him about that for a bit but relented and took his spot on the apron), Homicide decides he wants to do the same. It doesn’t end well for The Notorious 187 as Angle damn near Suplexes him out of his boots before forcing him down to the ground and slapping the back of his head repeatedly! This prompts the crowd to chant, “You Got Bitch Slapped!” Having gotten thoroughly humbled, Cide’ tags out to his big homie Hernandez in the hopes that he can get something going. Angle looks raring to go but decides to tag in Joe so he can get his turn. This encounter ends roughly the same as the one between Cide/Angle with Joe getting the better of Hernandez and forcing him to tag out to his partner. The action continues for a few minutes with the babyfaces in control until Homicide blind-tags himself into the match as Hernandez bounces off the ropes while in the ring with Angle. Angle manages to take down Super-Mex but is completely unprepared for a Yakuza Kick from Homicide! Cutting the ring in half, the tag champs work Angle over, targeting the Olympic Hero’s bad neck. Kurt tries to mount some comebacks on his own but the chemistry between his opponents is too strong and he’s forced to tag out to his partner the first chance he gets. Joe comes in hot as he rattles both men with hard strikes but much like Angle, he soon gets cut off by the tag champs and finds himself in the same position that Kurt was in. Standing on the apron, Angle tries to rally his partner on but Joe is much more stubborn than Angle was, refusing to accept that he needs to tag out and doing his damndest to beat the tag champs by himself. By the time he realizes he has to swallow his pride, LAX are ready as they knock Angle off the apron before he can make the hot tag. Joe is left hanging as he wonders where the hell his partner is when he needs him. To his credit, Angle tries to come in illegally to help but gets held back by the ref. This, of course, sets up LAX double-teaming Joe behind the ref’s back. Finally, Joe catches a breaks as Cide spends a bit too much time talking trash to fans, getting caught with an ST-Joe when he tries to charge his opponent in the corner! The second hot tag of the match is made to Angle and he starts handing out German Suplexes like they were Christmas presents. The match eventually breaks down into a 4-way with all four men in the ring. Joe tries to slap on the Coquina Clutch on the massive Hernandez while Angle attempts to get Homicide on his belly so he can fully apply the Angle Lock. Homicide is able to fight his way out of the hold, however, and manages to kick The Wrestling Machine into his own partner! Joe goes tumbling to the outside as Angle gets lifted onto Super-Mex’s shoulders. 5150! One, two, thr-NO! How in the world did Angle kick out of that? LAX are absolutely shocked and seem to be thrown off their game by Angle kicking out of their signature move. Konnan shouts out orders to his men to “finish this gringo”, prompting the tag champs to set up for the 5150 again. Joe’s back up though and he catches Homicide in the side of the head with a kick, forcing him to fall into the ring. Joe hops back in the ring and forces Cide back onto the top turnbuckle for a thunderous Muscle Buster! Meanwhile, Angle escapes Hernandez’s grasp and hits an Olympic Slam! Both men go for covers and the ref shrugs his shoulders before counting the double pin. The Dream Team picks up the victory! The fans are going nuts as both men celebrate in the ring, posing on separate corners in what is essentially a popularity contest to see who would get the bigger pop. I think Angle won but Joe wasn’t far off. Similar to how this alliance started, Angle extends his hand to Joe and the Samoan accepts it. The announcers talk about the respect that these two have gained for each other only to gasp as Joe suddenly delivers a headbutt to Angle! Kurt’s stunned but Joe’s not done as he drags him up just to bring him crashing down to the mat with a Muscle Buster! The fans are pretty split as Joe looks at Angle’s body with a sneer on his face before spitting on him and giving him a middle finger. The announcers don’t know how to react as Joe heads to the back and we cut to a video package for the upcoming world title match. As a match, this was good but the real story here is the post-match angle. [***¼]Match #8 NWA World Heavyweight Championship “The Monster” Abyss (w/ James Mitchell) vs. “The Icon” Sting(c)
The crowd sounds electric for this one as it’s time for the NWA Heavyweight Champion of the World to be decided. The Icon of TNA defends his belt against the hot up-and-comer Abyss. In a lot of ways, this match is reminiscent of the old Sting/Vader battles as Sting spends the majority of the match fighting from underneath. Abyss puts his size advantage to good use as he hammers away on Sting in the corner, making sure to adhere to the ref’s count after last month’s fiasco in his match with Samoa Joe. The champ gets in his shots here or there but he can’t seem to land anything significant. Or, if it is significant, Abyss sure isn’t showing it. At one point, Abyss actually does a splash from the middle turnbuckle on Sting, crushing the champ under his weight for a nearfall. Refusing to give up, Stinger soon fights his way back into the match, utilizing some rare aerial moves in his arsenal such as a Crossbody off the top to knock the big man off his feet. It looked ugly but it was effective in knocking Abyss down. Feeding off the crowd’s energy, Sting does the “10 Punches” deal in the corner before hitting a Stinger Splash! For the first time during the match, Mitchell seems concerned as his monster is dazed. Letting out a loud warrior cry, Sting bounces off the ropes...only to be caught by Abyss and lifted over his head! Sting throws punch after punch in an attempt to force the challenger to let go but Abyss just hunkers down and drops ass-first to hit Shock Treatment. Amazingly, Sting is able to stagger his way back up to his feet but it doesn’t pay off for him as Abyss is ready to plant him with the Black Hole Slam! He hooks the legs. One. Two. Fans are clearly expecting Sting to kick out. After all, how could he not? He’s the world champ. A legend in this business. The Icon of TNA. Nearly everybody in the building was waiting for Stinger’s shoulder to pop up, ready to explode as soon as it happened. Three. That moment never came. Ring announcer Jeremy Borash made it official. “Ladies and Gentlemen, your winner AND NEEEEEEEEEWWWW NWA Heavyweight Champion of the World, “The Monster” Abyss!” James Mitchell looks like the happiest man in the world as he snatches the world title away from the ref and personally straps it around his monster’s waist. The crowd is in shock, nearly in silence. The announcers are selling the title change big but you can tell even they are still in disbelief somewhat. And ya’ll thought I was playing when I said the times are changing. [***]
And the winner of the prediction contest is...*drumroll* Brainbustaaah! Congrats on your victory, my friend. I will PM you soon about your prize. Everyone else, thanks for playing and for reading! This show ended up being longer than I expected but f*** it, I'm just glad it's done.

Ugh...kill me. No seriously, kill me. It’s January 1st, 2007 and I’m currently sitting in my office nursing the biggest hangover of my life. After the PPV last night, the company hosted a NYE party/PPV after-party. The shit was fun (who knew Dixie was a master at keg stands?) but I felt like absolute death when I woke up the next morning. And of course, I had to come into work so I could put together the card for the TV tapings later tonight. I love this job but it certainly has it’s shitty aspects. There’s like no time for rest. Where’s my bae Sophie when I need her? Sure enough, as soon as I thought that, Sophbae strolls into my office with some aspirin in one hand and a stack of papers in the other. She is just the best. Sophie: It really was a terrible idea for you to get into a drinking contest with the Briscoes. How much do you even remember from last night? Magic: ...that we did a show? Not gonna lie, my memory’s really fuzzy beyond that. I remember Ron Killings & Christian getting into a freestyle battle and that Christian had a surprisingly nasty flow. Dixie kissed me on the cheek and hugged me when the ball dropped I’m not positive but I think she copped a feel. Also, you and me got engaged but I couldn’t tell if that was a dream or not. Sophie: Well, other than that last part, pretty spot on. I just looked at the PPV buyrate. It’s actually a bit up from last month’s. It f***ing better be, it had Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe teaming up. Sophie: Also, Dixie just faxed over some documents. The first one is regarding that second TV show you wanted. It took a lot of negotiating and finagling but she managed to get us another show. The paperwork just got finalized this morning. Yes! Thank you, Based Dixie. I grabbed the paper out of Sophie’s hand and looked to see what what day & time we’d be airing on Spike. Magic: Wait...the Sunshine Network? The hell is this? Sophie: Yeah, it turns out Spike was pretty adamant about not giving us another show. Something about not wanting to take away any time slots from Cops. They did give her permission to make a deal with another network that has no major national coverage. Magic: Oh, for...how many places even get this channel? Sophie: They have plenty of coverage in Florida but very little outside of it. On the upside, they are putting us in prime time on Saturday night with a 1 hour show. Magic: But the whole point of even getting this second show was so we could get more exposure for the roster. How are we gonna do that if nobody outside of the state is even watching this thing!? Sophie: Maybe we could...put the show on Youtube every week? At least that way, it has a chance to be seen by most of our fanbase. She’s got a brain just as great as her booty. How can you not love this woman? ...Not you. You can back off, brah. Me and her are soul mates. Magic: Yeah, I guess that could work. Alright, f*** it. Beggars can’t be choosers so I’ll just have to work with that. What else you got for me? It turns out she had quite a bit more for me. First of all, Pro Wrestling Illustrated released a list of the top 100 wrestlers in the world in 2006. What’s notable about it is that our very own Kurt Angle was ranked #1. Granted, that’s mainly because of his work in WWE but hey, it’s good publicity for us. AJ Styles (6), Christian Cage (7), Samoa Joe (9), Jerry Lynn (13), Senshi (15), & Christopher Daniels (19) were the other guys on our roster that placed in the top 20. Not a bad showing at all but I’m expecting to see a lot more of our guys on this list next year. Next, there was some major news regarding a developmental territory. As it turned out, a company based out of Georgia called NWA Anarchy was having some serious financial problems. So much so that the owner of the company was actually looking to sell the thing just so he wouldn’t have to deal with all the debt. That’s where we come in. Mama Dixie took a look at our books and gave me the go-ahead to buy up the company. Perfect. Now, instead of having to spend all this money starting up our own developmental, we can use this established company as a way to develop future talent by having them perform on their shows. After making a few calls and rubbing a few hands, the deal was done by the afternoon. As a result of the buyout, we inherited all of the company’s belts (might as well put that shit in the trash, brah) and all of the wrestlers that had upcoming bookings with them. The full list of guys can be found below: Ace Rockwell Alter Boy Luke Azarel Bio- Hazard Brandon P Chad Parham Chris Cage Cru Jones Dan Wilson (Manager) Iceberg Jay Fury Jeff G. Bailey (Manager) Jimmy Rave Ken Westbrooks Kory Chavis Murder One Onyx Sal Rinauro Scottie Wren Seth Delay Shaun Tempers Slim J Todd Sexton
I haven’t heard of half of these goobers but hey, maybe there are a few gems hidden in there. Either way, it couldn’t hurt to sign them to developmental deals and see where they are at several months from now. Worst case scenario, a bunch of them get cut and get replaced by more talented guys that want a chance at national exposure. In addition to all the geeks coming over from the other company, me and Sophie also compiled a list of wrestlers that have been gaining a bit of buzz on the indie scene that we can sign to developmental. Thankfully, I have the advantage of being from the future and the hindsight that comes with it to help us out in making some of the decisions. Anthony Bartlett Jr.: This dude is younger than me. No joke. At the tender age of 19 years old, Bartlett has only been wrestling for a year but he’s already a competent technician and has a natural charisma that can’t really be taught. He’s gonna be one of the youngest guys down there but he’s also a guy that I have high hopes for. Make yourself famous, kid. And make me a shit ton of money one day. Arik Cannon: A bit of a Renaissance Man in the ring, Cannon is solid in nearly every area with the exception of his promos. The man has all the charisma of wet cardboard. He’s gonna develop into a good worker without a doubt. The real question is, just how good will he get? Only time will tell. B-Boy: A guy who I always considered to be the bootleg version of Homicide, B-Boy has got lots of flashy moves that would fit right in with the X-Division. He’s also got solid mat technique. Much like Cannon, his biggest weakness is his charisma but I’d say he has a higher ceiling than Cannon. Caprice Coleman: Damn, this dude has been wrestling for a long time. I f***s with Caprice Coleman in ROH so I figure I’d sign him to a deal. He can talk and can fly around pretty good. Daniel Puder: Yes sir, it’s the jabroni that won the last Tough Enough and proceeded to do absolutely nothing afterwards besides get bodied by Chris Benoit & Hardcore Holly. He is now in our developmental system. The main reason why I signed him is name value but he does have decent technique due to his MMA background. Let’s see if he’ll flame out. Eddie Kingston: Holla at ya boy. Kingston is that dude. There are some very clear holes in his game at this point in his career but he’s a good talker and will only get better as time goes on. He can also have a good brawl if in the ring with the right person. El Generico: OLE! Chances are you’ve heard of Generico before so there’s no real point in me saying what he can do. I will say that at 21 years old, he could be a guy that we build around when he eventually gets called up to the main roster. Equinox: I don’t know too much about this cat but he can do flippy shit. ...He can’t really do much else but hey, it’s developmental for a reason. Harry Smith: The son of the legendary Davey Boy Smith, the 20 year old prodigy was released by WWE back in November due to cost-cutting. I got a good feeling about this guy. I think he’s gonna turn into an absolute stud and I’m glad that WWE was too stupid to realize that. Kenny Omega: Omega was in WWE’s developmental system for a year or so but it didn’t work out for whatever reason. He REALLY did not like Bill Demott when I talked to him. Something about donuts and not wearing any clothes. I really don’t want to know the whole story, TBH. But, he’s a good high-flyer and can hold on his own on the mat. Ricochet: At 18 years old, Ricochet is the “baby” of this class. He looks like a baby too. Man, this dude looks like he could sneak into a 8th grade classroom and blend in with the rest of the kids. Still, he’s absurdly athletic and he turned into a borderline super worker by 2016 so I’ll be keeping an eye on him. In addition to all that, I’ve made the decision to send A-1 & Lance Hoyt to Georgia because they are kinda dookie and will hopefully improve a little bit during their time down there. A-1 got all uppity when I called him but Hoyt seemed pretty chill about it. After all that bullshit, the only thing was left to do was put together something for the website and drive on over to Universal Studios for the TV tapings. I may have only been around for the last few months of 2006 but make no mistake. 2007 is the year that this rocket ship takes off, daddy.
From TNAWrestling.com
New Title to be Introduced at Final Resolution; Kurt Angle to Confront Samoa Joe on Impact!
- TNA ended 2006 with a bang as a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion was crowned at Turning Point. Abyss managed to defeat former champion Sting in very decisive fashion. We are expecting to hear from the new champion and his handler James Mitchell on this week's Impact. Management Director Jim Cornette was very pleased with how last year went but expects this year to be even better for the company. Cornette could think of no better way to ensure that this year gets off to a good start than to announce the creation of a new title here in TNA! The TNA World Television Championship will be a unique title in the sense that the title must be defended on a bi-weekly basis on some kind of televised event. Any title defense on TV will feature a 15 minute time limit while title bouts on PPV & other special events will have a 20 minute time limit. What makes this belt different than others in TNA is the direct implication that it has on the NWA World Championship. Any champion that manages to successfully defend the title 10 times will be given the option of vacating the title and receiving an automatic title shot at whoever the NWA World Champion is. It should be noted that time limit draws and DQ’s do NOT count as successful title defense, according to Mr. Cornette. This clause will obviously make the TV title highly coveted by anybody looking to break into the world title picture. Cornette announced the inaugural TV champion will be decided at on January 28th at the Final Resolution PPV event. Over the next few weeks on Impact, there will be three 3-way matches. The winners of those matches will go on to a 3-way match at the PPV. Whoever wins THAT match will be the first ever TNA TV champion. While he didn’t announce the actual matches, the competitors will be Austin Starr, Alex Shelly, Bobby Roode, D’Lo Brown, Eric Young, Marcell Cor Von, Rhino, Ron Killings, & a mystery competitor. The only info that Cornette would give on the mystery contestant is it’s somebody that has never competed in a TNA ring before but has accolades from all across the globe. - Also set for Impact, Kurt Angle has let it be known that he’s calling Samoa Joe out! At Turning Point, the promoted “Dream Team” of Angle & Joe managed to defeat LAX in a non-title match but after the bout, Joe laid out the Olympic Gold Medalist with the Muscle Buster. Both men are combustible personalities so one can only imagine the sparks that are gonna fly when these two are in the ring together.

TNA Impact! [79%] January 4th, 2007 TAPED from the Impact Zone Announcers: Mike Tenay & Don West
- The first Impact of the new year started off with an in-ring promo by James Mitchell and newly crowned NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Abyss. The real meat of the promo was Mitchell flexin’ about his monster winning the top crown in TNA. “I told all of you peons that my monster was going to bury that old fossil Sting and that’s exactly what he did.” The Sinister Minister pointed out that nobody had even heard from Sting since his defeat on Sunday “The Icon is no more! All hail the new emperor, Abyss! How long will his reign be? As long as he WANTS to be world champion.” [72%]
1. Trying to rebound from his (less-than-clean) loss to Christian Cage at the PPV, AJ Styles took on Petey Williams in what turned into a pretty awesome TV match. Petey Williams is a guy that was really hurt by us having one TV show because he’s been criminally underutilized by me. He’s a great wrestler but it’s hard to find a spot for him. Thankfully, the new show we got on Saturdays should help fix that problem. As for the match itself, it’s a bit of a spotfest but goddamn, is it fun to watch. From start to finish, these guys worked an incredibly fast pace as the announcers questioned who would make the first mistake. As it turned out, the first real mistake of the match would be the last as Petey took a bit too much time setting up a Hurricanrana off the top rope to a standing AJ. The Phenomenal One saw it coming and was able to counter it with a Powerbomb before lifting Petey up again for the Styles Clash! AJ got the hard earned victory here but I think Petey impressed a few folks with his performance tonight. [****]
- We get a brief video showing off various wrestling legends from past eras. Buddy Rogers, Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat, and even Randy Savage all make an appearance in the video in the form of old still photos from when they were in their “prime.” After the last photo, some gold text popped up on the screen. “Some wrestlers are good. Others are great. Only a rare breed, however, can be...royalty. The Kings of Wrestling are coming to TNA soon.” What, you thought I was done bringing in new talent? To quote a wise man, “I can’t stop. Won’t stop. Uh-uh, uh-uh. *Diddy Shoulder Jig*” [63%]
2. It’s not every week that you see the X-Division Championship be defended on TV. It’s also not often that someone gets a title match in their debut match. Both happened in this one as Psicosis made his return to the company against Chris Sabin. As good as the opening match was, this may have been a notch above it as Sabin and Psicosis have tremendous chemistry together. Psicosis, in particular, clearly wanted to make a statement in his return match as he pulled out all the stops and tons of fancy dives that had the crowd on their feet. Still, despite the Luchadore’s best efforts, it was Sabin that walked out with the gold after reversing a wacky Lucha roll-up from the challenger and winding up on top of the pile. After the match, Sabin celebrated with his boo Jaime Koeppe while Psicosis nodded towards the champ as a sign of respect, promising that this wouldn’t be the last time they face off against each other. [****¼]
- Backstage, Scott Steiner was ranting and raving about his successful X-Division “debut” on Sunday’s pre-show match when Johnny Devine interrupted him. The Canadian must still be looking for a partner as he asked Big Poppa Pump if he’d be interested in forming an alliance. Based on the befuddled look on his face, Steiner must have been thinking, “who is f***ing with Johnny Devine?” Devine was persistent, however, and ended up getting shoved HARD into a wall for not knowing that no means no. Never get uppity with The Big Bad Booty Daddy, jabroni. [70%]
3. In a match that’s actually been building for a few weeks now, Ron “The Truth” Killings squared off with TNA’s local rich snob, Robert Roode. Compared to the last two matches, this one doesn’t really light the world on fire but both guys showed some good intensity as they had a give-and-take brawl. The finish saw Roode, in serious danger of losing the match, tossing Ms. Brooks into Truth as the babyface tried to go after him on the outside. Being a gentlemen, Truth caught Ms. Brooks to stop her from getting hurt but as soon as he let her go, he was rocked by a stiff Northern Lariat from Roode. The Wall Street Prick wasted no time in tossing Truth back into the ring and hitting the Payoff for the win. After the match, Ms. Brooks looked like she was actually considering checking on the defeated Truth in the ring but was quickly escorted to the back by her client. [***¼]
- After the announcers hype up our new TV show that’s gonna be put on Youtube, dubbed TNA Xplosion!, Raven, Masato Tanaka, & Justin Credible sauntered out to the ring with kendo sticks in hand. Raven snatched a mic out of a ring technician’s hands before announcing what many fans already assumed. Justin Credible was the newest member of Serotonin. Raven explained that Credible, very similar to Tanaka, had lost his killer instinct in the years following the death of “that bingo hall in Philly.” No way I’m setting myself up for a legal L by actually using the letters ECW. Anyway, Raven said that he had taken it upon himself to help his former contemporaries rediscover the fire inside of them. “These men now understand how to embrace the hate in their heart and harness that raw, ruthless aggression made them so dangerous years ago.” Raven spouted some more vague, philosophical bullshit before basically saying that he can help Team 3D too, if they so desire. If they don’t accept the offer...well, they might as well not even come back to TNA. “Otherwise, this story isn’t gonna have a happy ending for you two.” [87%]
4. In the first of three qualifiers to decide who will go on to compete in the inaugural TV title match at Final Resolution, Austin Starr, D-Lo Brown, and Eric Young faced off in a 3-way match for a chance at glory. The match is all action with no dull spots even though that action was pretty sloppy at points. Everybody had their chance to shine during the match but Senshi was determined to make sure that this wasn’t going to be EY’s night. The World Warrior ran down and laid out his rival with some brutal kicks as Young was resting outside of the ring. The ref couldn’t really do shit since the match is No-DQ so it came down to D-Lo & Starr. They had a decent exchange before D-Lo caught the cocky superstar with a Sky High Powerbomb as he was bouncing off the ropes. Everybody knew what was coming next as The Brown Man went up top and hit the Lo Down Frog Splash! Just like that, D-Lo had punched his ticket to Final Resolution. [***]
- Chillin’ in the interview pit with Jeremy Borash, Christian Cage was backstage to hype up his upcoming match against a man that he has plenty of history with, Rhino, in the main event. Though he mainly focuses on his upcoming match, Cage took some some shots at AJ Styles as well as he pointed that AJ couldn’t be all THAT phenomenal since “The Champ” beat him like a drum at Turning Point. After saying that he’s gonna beat Rhino “for the 100th time in the past 5 months”, Cage said that he’s officially staking his claim for the next shot against Abyss since Sting is MIA. “I’m already The Champ every single day of my life but I want the physical belt to prove it. Chicks dig belts.” [80%]
5. Rhino was all sorts of fired up as he went after Christian Cage as soon as the bell rung in the main event. These two feuded for a few months in 2006 and even had an 8-Mile Street Fight at Bound For Glory. The War Machine obviously wanted to redeem that loss tonight as he refused to give his opponent any time to breathe, keeping him on the defensive for several minutes with his superior strength. Like a true veteran, Christian managed to weather the storm and was eventually able to use Rhino’s intensity against him by getting on his bike and moving around the ring, daring Rhino to chase after him. This strategy ended up paying off for the Instant Classic as Rhino was clearly sucking wind as the match went past the 15 minute mark. With his opponent tired and in a vulnerable position, The Champ took advantage and was soon able to plant Rhino with the Unprettier for the clean victory. [***¼]
- Even though the last match was technically the “main event”, I think most people were looking forward to the last segment of the night as Kurt Angle came out to call out Samoa Joe after his actions at Turning Point. Angle said that he thought he and Joe actually worked pretty well as a team on Sunday. He thought that maybe, just maybe, they had gained some sort of mutual respect for each other. Then, Joe not only attacked him after the match but had the nerve to spit on him before he left the ring. “Get your ass out here, Joe. If you got something you want to say, say it to my face like a man!” It didn’t take Joe long at all to come down to the ring and get right into the face of Angle. Grabbing a mic of his own, Joe stated that Angle must have lost his mind. “We may have worked together on Sunday but you will NEVER get any respect from me!” Joe pointed out that he was giving Angle his receipt for that headbutt back in October but he’d be lying if he said that was the only reason he did what he did.
“I did it because I hate you, Kurt. I hated you before I ever even met you. I hate everything you stand for. I hate you for all the people that claimed you were the best in the world. I hate you because I’m better than you, Kurt, and it pisses me off that other people don’t see that!”
After years of hearing all the talk about Angle being the dominant force in wrestling, Joe had to deal with this bald son of a bitch coming into HIS house and trying to disrespect him . “I won’t be as pretentious as to say that I built this house. I will say that I own this house now and I’ve owned it since the first day I came to this company! 18 months. 18 damn months and nobody’s been able to beat me!”
Having let Joe speak his piece, Angle said that he had to admit. Joe...had a point. Yeah, he DID go out of his way to disrespect Joe on his first night in the company. He wanted to make an impression on his first night by going after the biggest dog in the yard and that dog just so happened to be Joe. Kurt admitted that he understands Joe’s anger and he wants to offer the Samoan a way to make things right. Angle wants to give him a chance to silence all the critics once and for all.
“At Final Resolution, let’s do it. Samoa Joe. Kurt Angle. One-on-one for the first time ever to see who truly is the best wrestler in the world today!” Just to show that he was serious about the offer, Angle stuck out his hand. The fans were losing their shit as Don West was spitting all over the headset begging Joe to accept the match. It only took Joe a few seconds to contemplate it before shaking Kurt’s hand! Just like that, the dream match that every TNA fan has been waiting for was finally set. January 28th. Mark your calendars, folks. After the handshake, Kurt tried to walk out of the ring but Joe refused to let go of his grasp and quickly pulled The Wrestling Machine back in so that they were face-to-face again. Both men talked some shit to close out the show as the announcers hyped up Final Resolution like crazy. I made sure to have them emphasize that the PPV will be outside of the Impact Zone and that tickets are on sale now because if that building don’t sell out with this main event, that’s my ass. [91%]

Our new show Xplosion will consist of a couple matches that were taped before the Impact taping that night and some house show matches that were taped after the TV tapings. We could have taped an entire hour’s worth of content before (or after) the Impact taping but why risk burning out the crowd when we can just send a camera crew to a house show during the week? It might have been cheaper to tape it all in the Impact Zone but if Mama Dixie has a problem with it, I can flirt my way out of the situation. Since nothing of major importance is gonna be happening on these shows most weeks, the recap will briefer than the recaps for Impact.
TNA Xplosion! [73%] January 6th, 2007
1. In a match designed to make The Briscoe Brothers look good, Jay & Mark looked impressive against debuting talent Mike Quackenbush & Colt Cabana. Cabana and Quack worked very well together as a team but Jay and Mark had the clear edge in experience, isolating Quack in the ring before hitting the Springboard Doomsday Device for the win. [***½]
- Robert Roode cut a pre-taped promo, promising to win the TV title. [72%]
2. Scott Steiner squashed Johnny Devine in a match stemming from Steiner refusing to be Devine’s partner on Impact. It went maybe 3 minutes before Devine was crying in the Steiner Recliner. [**]
- We get another video hyping The Kings of Wrestling. Get your body ready because they are debuting soon. [65%]
3. Frankie Kazarian and Jay Lethal were actually having a damn good match when LAX hit the ring and killed them both. The ref was forced to rule it a no-contest but quickly bailed from the ring as the Latinos grabbed a mic. [****]
- Konnan was all kinds of fired up as he basically said all the gringos at home and in the building can EAD. Lots of naughty words were said in Spanish before K-Dawg promised that his men would “make a statement” on Impact. Huh. Wonder what that means? [82%]
4. In a match that was all action, Senshi picked up the win in a 4-Corner’s match that also involved Jimmy Yang, Ultimo Guerrero, and the debuting PAC. PAC was welcomed to the big leagues by doing a job as Senshi finished him off with a Warrior’s Way. [***]
- Team 3D cut a promo backstage where they said Raven could take his offer to join Serotonin and shove it up his ass. Brother Ray says that they’ve got three tables with their names on em’ while D-Von flexes for the gram in the background. [73%]
5. The main event of this debut show was pretty good as AJ Styles bested Alex Shelley via Styles Clash in a competitive match. Kevin Nash & Austin Starr watched on from ringside and could only shake their heads in disappointment as Shelly caught an L. [***¼]
TNA Impact! [74%] January 11th, 2007 TAPED from the Impact Zone Announcers: Mike Tenay & Don West
1. This week’s Impact started off with a debut as The Kings of Wrestling, Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli, bodied The James Gang. Yeah, Kip James is still talking shit and because of that, he’s still getting his shoulders pinned to the mat. This time, it’s a KRS-ONE that does him in after about 6 minutes of action that served as a showcase for the Kings more than anything. Good debut for the newcomers and ahahaha, f*** you Kip. [**½]
- Backstage, Jim Cornette had an announcement regarding tonight’s main event. In a #1 Contender’s match to decide who would be challenging Abyss for his title at Final Resolution, Christian Cage will go one-on-one with AJ Styles! Aw shit, son. Call your friends, we need to do a strong quarter hour. It means nothing but I want to flex about it on the internet. [85%]
2. Gonna let you know right now, this is gonna be one of those shows with lots of squashes. Sorry, got to do that with free TV sometimes. This one at least features a mega star as Kurt Angle tore through Matt Bentley like he was wet tissue paper. According to the announcers, the match had only gone 55 seconds before Bentley was tapping out to the Angle Lock after taking a series of German Suplexes. Bentley is another one of those cats that I forgot was on the roster. If I’m gonna keep bringing in new guys, I’m gonna have to trim the fat off this roster soon. Oh well, that’s something I can worry about another day. [***]
- Backstage, Jaime Koeppe was hanging around just...being hot, I guess before Scott Steiner approached her. Showing no shame in his game, he tries to mack on the gorgeous brunette, asking her why she’s with that wimp Sabin. “You should be with a real man like Big Poppa Pump!” To emphasize his point, Steiner flexed his massive biceps but Koeppe didn’t seem to be feeling him. “I like my men to be a little more...natural.”, she said. Steiner didn’t seem pleased with that comment but before things could escalate, Chris Sabin stepped in and wrapped his arm around his boo. Smirking at Steiner, the two shared a kiss before Sabin let Big Poppa Pump know that Jamie was more than satisfied with him. It’s not often the Big Bad Booty Daddy gets curved and he didn’t deal with it well here as he stormed off, screaming a number of bleeped naughty words that could still be heard as he went off camera. [63%]
3. In their first appearance since losing to the Briscoes at Turning Point, America’s Most Wanted had their work cut out for them as they took on Serotonin members Justin Credible & Masato Tanaka. Fists were flying throughout this match but it was the presence of Raven at ringside that really served as a difference maker. Sensing that his men were in a bit of trouble, Raven got up on the apron to distract Chris Harris. Harris threw a wild swing at Raven. who narrowly avoided the blow by jumping down to the floor, before turning around right into a Roaring Elbow from Tanaka! One That’s Incredible later and that’s all she wrote. The match itself was pretty good. AMW are such a good team that I kinda regret booking the next segment… [***½]
- With James Storm & Gail Kim laid out on the outside, Raven planted Chris Harris with an Evenflow DDT as Justin Credible and Masato Tanaka brought in two chairs after the match. The dastardly trio wrapped one chair around Harris’ shoulder before handing the other chair to their leader. With a cold look in his eyes, Raven brings the chair crashing down onto Harris’ shoulder! The AMW member immediately starts rolling on the mat in agony, clutching at his shoulder and groaning loudly. It looks like Serotonin wasn’t satisfied with hurting one member of the team as they dragged Storm into the ring and put him in a similar position. Before they could go through with the shoulder Pillamanizing, however, Team 3D ran down the ramp to save the day! Where the hell were Krispy Kreme and Butterbean when Harris was getting murked, you may be asking? Well, don’t think about it. Anyway, armed with kendo sticks of their own, The Dudleys clear the ring and cause Serotonin to flee. Storm was saved on this night but his partner wasn’t so lucky as medical staff attend to him. [74%]
4. Last week, it was D’Lo Brown that reserved his spot in the TV title match at Final Resolution. This week, Alex Shelley, Robert Roode, and Rhino battled for a chance at glory. This match was a bit better than last week’s match but not by much. Really, the only noteworthy thing in it is the finish as Shelley was going back-and-forth with Roode in the ring. Suddenly, Austin Starr sauntered out to ringside and began yelling “advice” at Shelley. Taking time out to look back at Starr and yelling at him that he has the match under control, Shelley found himself getting drilled by a Northern Lariat! Three seconds later, Roode was the second man to qualify for the TV title match. Starr openly laughed at Shelley’s misfortunes as he headed back up the ramp as the Detroit native looked defeated in the ring. [***]
- Backstage with JB, Eric Young cut a short promo where he challenged Senshi to another match in the near future. Nothing special but it was a decent. [72%]
5. The other half of Final Resolution’s main event was in action here as Samoa Joe took on The Miz. Miz literally had no chance to get out of the starting blocks as Joe killed him with a Running Yakuza Kick as soon as the bell rung. The crowd popped huge as Joe dragged Miz, who was essentially dead weight, up to his feet before bringing him crashing down to the mat with a thunderous Muscle Buster. This one is done in less 30 seconds! As Joe celebrated his win, the announcers pointed out that Joe was clearly making a statement. “Anything Angle can do, I can do better.” [**¾]
- After a commercial break, LAX were standing in the ring with a mic and...an American flag? After telling all the fat gringos to shut up, Konnan said that his boys still weren’t getting the respect that they deserve. Two weeks ago, they beat the two best teams in all of TNA and they STILL aren’t getting proper recognition from TNA management. “These putos still think that LAX is just a group they can push down. LAX is a familia! LAX is a way of life! We are LAX until the day we die!” Konnan said that he’s tired of his men being treated as second-class citizens. He wants retribution for his people. And how are they gonna get that retribution? “By burning the white boy’s flag on national TV.”
Both the crowd and the announcers fell into a shocked silence as Konnan produced a can of lighter fluid and a pack of matches. As the US flag was tossed on the ground and doused in fluid, the boos were deafening as certain sections of the audience began chanting “USA!” in defiance. The announcers condemned the heels, with Mike Tenay calling it, “one of the most heinous things I’ve seen in all my years as a sports broadcaster.” Don West was begging for someone to stop this as K-Dwag lit the match and was ready to drop it on the flag. Before he can go through with it, he’s stopped dead in his tracks by the music of...The Briscoes?
Yes, accompanied by their manager Jimmy Hart, Jay and Mark walked out and immediately stepped in between LAX and the flag. Speaking for his team, Jimmy said that his boys may not be the most liked team in the back but at the end of the day, they are a couple of good ol’ country boys that love their country! It’s a cheap pop, for sure, but the crowd still eats it up and chants “USA! USA!” Hart calls LAX’s actions “disgraceful” and said that they must be out of their minds if they think that the Briscoes are just gonna let them disrespect everything they stand for by burning that flag. The tension was thick as both teams went eye-to-eye before Jay smacked the matches out of Konnan’s hands. The brawl that followed was chaotic but when the smoke cleared, it was the Briscoes that were standing tall after sending the tag champs retreating up the heel ramp. The segment came to an end with the Briscoes holding the flag up high as the announcers rode their nuts and praised them for “standing up for their country.” Personally, I’m not big on these“ USA rah-rah”-type feuds but I needed a way to build some heat for this match while both teams are technically heels and this was the best I could come up with. Yeah, I know, I suck. [74%]
6. This show’s main event also served as a #1 Contender’s match to decide who gets the next shot against NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Abyss. Christian Cage & AJ Styles built off their match at the PPV and cleaned up some of the sloppiness that hampered that match. This match still isn’t great but it’s a clear improvement over their Turning Point match. Unlike the PPV, however, this one doesn’t get a winner as Abyss hit the ring and murked both men. The ref, knowing that The Monster has a history of abusing refs, bailed from the ring as Abyss stood over the bodies of both men while raising his title high in the air. Well, shit. Who gets the title shot now? Find out on the next episode of TNA Impact! [***¼]
