The Hulk Hogan-Eric Bischoff era in TNA is one of the more polarizing in the company's history. What was originally thought to be a huge shot in the arm for TNA ended up backfiring, and many blaming the aforementioned Bischoff and Hogan. Former WWE, WCW and TNA World Champion Kurt Angle recently spoke to WrestleTalk TV about the era, as well as some of Bischoff and Hogan's ideas that ended up costing TNA money. "I love Hogan, I love Bischoff. Never had problems with either of them. Terry, we've always been close. I believe they did good for the company, TNA. I believe it was very expensive. They probably came up with the idea of TNA traveling town to town every week. It's a great idea, but where are you going to get the money?"
Angle also revealed that TNA going on the road almost caused the company to go out of business. The cost associated with the road tours weren't enough to justify the trips. "I think it really put the company in a position where it almost went under again. I know it went under at the very beginning, but it looked like it was about to go under again. TNA is a great company, but it's not a WWE. We don't have the extra funds to take chances, to waste a few million today and tomorrow will be fine. Every penny counts," Angle explained. Despite that decision, Angle says that he thinks both Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff were a positive for TNA Wrestling, but was realistic in saying that bad came of it. "Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan were very good for our company," Angle said. "Did they spend a lot of money? Yes. I'm sure it cost a lot of money to get them in there, and I'm sure they had ideas that cost us a lot of money. It was a good thing and somewhat of a bad thing, but I love the guys."Also shows you just how clueless Dixie really is. www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2015/1220/605953/kurt-angle-talks-about-tna-almost-going-under/

I think I get what he is saying, Hogan and Bischoff pushed TNA to do things they needed to do (namely traveling) but the costs were too much and ownership wasn't ready. I think. So good to push new things, bad for it to be so expensive and TNA being broke.

If you don't have the money to do something, it's not the right thing to do, period.

Really I get what you're saying but at the same time, I think Angle is looking at it as they had done all they could by staying in Orlando and they had to try and sink or swim outside it. Hogan and Bischoff threw them in the deep end, Dixie wasn't smart enough to pull them out when they went beneath the waves. Basically I think he is throwing Dixie under the bus and saying she has no business sense and cost them millions by not stepping in, without actually saying it. Like "They spent the money to try and make us better which was great but someone should have told them we don't actually have money"

I think he wanted to say that while bringing them could've been a great idea at the beginning, they cost the company a lot of money, I also think he chose his words carefully not to bury his friends.

It kinda sounds like the first bit contradicts the second bit...
because he pretty much flat out says their ideas almost put the company under...

Well other wrestler's kind of say the same thing that TNA needed to start traveling so he is not totally wrong.

In a sense, so many of the roads leading to TNA's failings as a company invariably lead back to Dixie. Which... really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Well other wrestler's kind of say the same thing that TNA needed to start traveling so he is not totally wrong. The problem wasn't taking the show on the road because TNA was doing that before Hogan/Bischoff came in. The problem was TNA had no backup plans if it didn't work and money ran out. Instead of keeping the Impact Zone as a backup and making small spurts into different markets, they cut that lifeline and seriously overestimated the demand for TNA. They ran through their budget after a month of tapings and made steep budget cuts. They tried to be WWE without having WWE money.

I think he's saying that they had bold ideas but they fell flat on their face in the end because TNA aren't like WWE where they can blow money like that.
I've become pretty adept at speaking Angle.

Cutting ties with the Impact Zone killed them. Going on the road had to be done at some point in order for the company to grow its name. The issue is they had no one competent to forecast the cost, and killing off ties with the Impact Zone gave them no out when things went downhill.
If they stayed in the IZ in 2013 and went on the road periodically, the company may have been able to survive a bit longer. It always came down to Spike, though.
