...completely insufferable? I seriously can't handle it anymore. Everywhere I go on the internet I seem to see comments from the 'PC Master Race', whether it's YouTube comments or my Twitter feed, or anti-console rants from YouTubers I watch who I otherwise enjoy watching...I can't stand it anymore. I've been collecting video game consoles and console games since I was about 10 or 11, and I've been a console only gamer for the majority of my life. When I was very young, I did play a lot of shareware games on PC, and I even played some games here and there through the years on PC but not many, and I've been primarily a console gamer since I started collecting consoles. In the last few years in particular, I've become a console exclusive gamer, the only games I play are on consoles or handheld consoles. The physical media collecting aspect has always been a big part of it. I'm not a fan of digital downloads and I only buy physical media, and collecting console video games has been a hobby of mine, as I've said already, since I was around 10 or 11. Of course, back then the older games were much cheaper and with eBay and the internet in general they are a lot more expensive, but still. It makes me happy, it's a fun hobby, and it's my preferred way to play video games. And that's why the whole 'PC Master Race' thing is something that makes me feel so miserable and worthless. Now I realise that some people use the whole 'PC Master Race' thing ironically, and I'm not talking about those people. I'm talking about the people who take it 100% seriously, the people who attack console gamers with things like 'console peasant' and 'console gamers aren't real gamers'. They constantly attack console gamers and claim that console gamers are 'fanboys', and other such stupid claims. They constantly go on about how PC gaming is, in their words, 'objectively better'. Now my question is this - why has this become accepted? I've never seen any console gamers attack PC gamers, so why? I don't get it. I prefer console gaming, I'm a console only gamer, but that doesn't mean that I have anything against PC gamers, and I'd never go around attacking someone for choosing to play games on a PC. So why is the opposite a thing? Apologies for the rant, but this is something that's been bothering me for a few years now, and I can't handle it anymore. I hate the idea that I'm a worthless 'console peasant' just because I choose to play on consoles, and I hate the idea that my hobby of collecting and playing console games is suddenly worthless because PC MASTER RACE HUR DUR DUR.

I wouldn't associate with someone who is culturally and historically tone-deaf enough to identify with the term "Master Race" in any sort of fashion.

Thinking you're better than someone else because you pretend to be a wizard battling trolls on a PC rather than a console makes you a master dipshit.

I swear gamers are like the most overly sensitive most confrontation people ever. Like it's weird how people get defensive or elitist over gaming really.

It's also worth noting that to keep a PC upgraded enough to play the latest games constantly (on top of buying said games) requires a greater amount of cash flow. So really it's an unsubtle form of classism. "Ha ha, you're too poor to own all the fancy stuff I own!"

The worst part is that Yahtzee created the term as an obvious joke but then all the idiots started claiming it as a badge of honor.

Really dude, you need to stop letting weird internet identity politics affect your life and be comfortable with who you are and how you get your happiness. There's nothing wrong with playing stuff on consoles. There's tons of games, especially retro ones that don't have releases elsewhere, so why would you not want to play them? With multiplayer games in particular, you generally want to play on whatever service all your friends are on, rather than the best possible platform anyways. But it IS objectively worse. You're limited on peripherals, you don't have backwards compatibility, games are more expensive, WAY less games come out, you can't upgrade the console, the graphics are frequently limited comparatively, lack of modding, you don't have to pay for the ability to play on the internet, and consoles have a limited shelf life. With the rise of services like Steam and GOG, PC gaming is as accessible as its ever been.

So really it's an unsubtle form of classism. "Ha ha, you're too poor to own all the fancy stuff I own!" That's not really true at all. You can get a prebuilt PC that can run almost anything for less than 400 bucks. You'd have to spend around another 50-80 to get a better video card to run the couple games that require 2GB video cards. If you build it yourself, you can generally knock about 100 bucks off those numbers depending on how diligent you want to be.

Speaking as someone who has both and has just adapted his telly to be a huge PC monitor so I can play certain PC games on the couch I feel incredibly proud and yet filthy at the same time.
Seriously though, what a silly thing to go on a rant about.

Now what happens in six months? Two years? Five years? Do the upgrades just not cost money? That's where the cash flow comes in.

Tech isn't advancing at such a ridiculous pace as it was in the late 90s/early 2000s where you have to upgrade all the time. For instance, my coworker was just talking to me Monday about how the age of his system was finally getting to him running Ark. It was 6 years old, and the only thing out of date was the video card. To replace that with a 2gb card runs around 120 bucks. Not too bad after 6 years of use, I'd think. Ram and processors aren't getting huge technical leaps that require you to replace them over and over which used to be the biggest source of creep there. At this point it's mostly just getting a new video card after a few years.

Well I did regret making this thread right after I posted it, but it seems to have gone better than expected. I always thought all these people were being sarcastic or joking Well I know for a fact that the whole 'PC Master Race' thing did start as a joke, but somewhere along the line people started saying it completely seriously, and that's what bothers me. ...completely insufferable? I seriously can't handle it anymore. Everywhere I go on the internet I seem to see comments from the 'PC Master Race', whether it's YouTube comments or my Twitter feed, or anti-console rants from YouTubers I watch who I otherwise enjoy watching...I can't stand it anymore. With the rise of services like Steam and GOG, PC gaming is as accessible as its ever been. On your first point, as I've said many times on these forums, I have no self esteem and I've never been comfortable with myself in any way. And on your third point, let me explain why none of that stuff applies to me: 'You're limited on peripherals' - Well I don't need them. 'you don't have backwards compatibility' - I don't need it, I have all the consoles. 'games are more expensive' - Okay...first of all, I only buy physical media as I stated earlier, so I don't care if they are cheaper on PC, for my collecting purposes I want the physical product, even if it's more expensive. Secondly, I live in Australia, and games are more expensive here in general. And finally, I rarely, if ever, pay full price for games. I either shop around and find the cheapest stores, or I wait for them to end up in the clearance sections of stores. And theres also used games from second hand shops as well. 'You can't upgrade the console' - So what? That's actually one of the things I like about consoles the most, they're a self-contained thing which stays a self contained thing, and I like that. 'The graphics are frequently limited comparatively' - This one I don't care about. I'm fine with console graphics. 'lack of modding' - I don't do/am not interested in modding anyway. 'You don't have to pay for the ability to play on the internet' - I don't play games on the internet anyway. I'm a solo gamer. 'consoles have a limited shelf life' - And this one I don't get at all. I have a very big collection of consoles, they all work perfectly fine (except for my original NES, but I also have a toploader model). And if you mean 'shelf life' in the sense of new game releases, well that doesn't matter either...it's not like the games suddenly disappear from existence, all that happens is that they end up becoming 'retro' games and in the second-hand shops and eBay. Either way, I don't understand what you meant here. 'With the rise of services like Steam and GOG...' - Again, I'm physical media only. As I said before, the collecting aspect is something that I like just as much as playing the actual games, and if I did the whole digital downloads thing it would ruin that experience. So those are just some of the reasons why I prefer console gaming over PC gaming, and why console gaming suits me better personally. If you find PC gaming much better, then that's perfectly fine, I have no problem with that. But I just prefer console gaming and collecting. And again, it bares repeating, I personally don't see how PC gaming, being digital-only these days, could be 'objectively better', as it completely ruins the physical collection hobby aspect of gaming that I've had since I was so young. But that's just me though, I realise not everybody is interested in collecting, but still.

Speaking as a console gamer myself (I use my PC for work purposes), the PlayStation Now cloud is amazing, and I haven't felt the need to rush out and buy up physical copies of games as of late because of it.
So long as you're having fun and comfortable with the price, who cares what people use?

PC Gaming is pointless. Why spend $1000 dollars on something you won't even know will work when you can just get an XBox One for half the price?
PCs are for porn. Not for games. Get it right, kiddies!
