I went on one once, it was weird, I felt like at every place we visited we weren't stopping long enough to really get anything out of the experience. For example, it stopped overnight in Barcelona, I was sorta thinking there is no way I can see all the cool stuff that there is to see in Barcelona in 24 hours, and I think I was right. When people ask me what cities I have been to I almost feel like it's cheating to say Barcelona because the visit was so incomplete. I realise this is a pretty dumb thing to think about but there you go. The ship was cool and huge, but I didn't really meet any cool fellow passengers or anything it seemed to mostly be families, old couples, and so on. Every night they had a fancy dinner in the main restaurant of the ship, I went a couple times but felt out of place sitting next to experienced cruisers that were dressed up in nice suits and dresses and whatnot. As if I was that guy from Titanic sitting at a dinner table with all the first class passengers. The food was really good though and the waiters were good, funny guys. The bartender at the ship's onboard 'pub' was really cool too, actually all the waiters and cleaners and so on were great and I felt sorry for them having to attend to so many stressed out families and so on. The music in the pub played like a set of 4 songs on repeat, one of which was Don McClean's American Pie, I was pretty sick of that after a few days. I guess they didn't expect many people to spend that long in there, but I liked shooting the breeze with the bartender so much that I spent most of the 'at sea' nights hanging out in there.
Also I went to see the onboard entertainment. There was a dance troupe that were pretty good, and some comedians that weren't really all that funny. There was a Beatles tribute band that were pretty good though. Also on the last night the cruise's "host" (there is a more technical name for this guy but I have forgotten it, it might be director), who had earlier performed a not-so-good comedy routine, came on stage and thanked everyone for travelling with them and then sang Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars'. That was surreal.
Anyway I just felt like sharing, any of you ever been on a cruise? What did you think?
