The whole "people look for reasons to be offended" thing, getting irritated with onscreen stereotypes isn't even remotely new. You're just more aware of it now, due to the internet letting more likeminded individuals talk to each other. Good Times came out in the mid-70s, and backstage, arguments were constantly had about the portrayal of black people with the show. I don't think they were looking to be offended for, I dunno, bonus points or whatever is supposed to be in it for people, or to rant on arpanet or something. It's easy to confuse being more aware of something to thinking it sprung out of the ground, but no, people didn't just decide to get offended, you just started hearing them more. Or going back even further, minstrel shows (not that the ones offended weren't justified there).

Obviously, this is less messed up than racial stereotypes, though they do tip their toes in that some with Raj and Wolowitz, but it's more just not everyone is going to be impressed when they feel they've been made into the punchline, often without much more joke than just "Isn't it weird?", rather than playing off of it.
That said, I do want to give Big Bang credit in that while I don't care for the writing from what I've seen, the cast is good and everyone delivers the material as best as could be asked of them, so it's not like I begrudge them the success. They're good sitcom actors, and Jim Parsons, Mayiam Bialik, Johnny Galecki, etc, do deserve credit for that, even if it's not my thing.

My only problem with the show is that it seems like it's on all the God Damn time. That's because TBS paid for the national syndication rights, and it's been a ratings juggernaut for TBS. It's basically at the point where TBS got a bargain. They're good sitcom actors, and Jim Parsons, Mayiam Bialik, Johnny Galecki, etc, do deserve credit for that, even if it's not my thing. Parsons, Bialik, and Simon Helberg (Howard) all deserve Emmy nominations, they've been fantastic. Parsons and Bialik have gotten to do more serious stuff in the show, but Helebrg has been killing the comedy this season. Hell, I've really enjoyed this season.

The people who complain about this show being stereotypical or even offensive make me laugh, because a sitcom has NEVER, EVER perpetuated stereotypes and stretched believability to the point of transparency. Just enjoy it for what it is, ya know? I would say that my big problem is that the jokes are generally "lol, they're nerds" when we already have a far funnier sitcom about nerds in the IT Crowd. Seriously, this is my favorite episode of any sitcom ever. I love both shows, honestly. Totally different styles and presentations, but I love both just about equally. And to be fair, most sitcoms can be boiled down to "lol <insert quirk here>". It's nothing new.

I'm a fan but I do think it's time they figure-out how they are going to wrap it up. It's fallen-off a smidge and there isn't that much left to do with the characters. Better to finish strong rather than just keep limping-along like Lorre's other hit 2-and-a-1/2 Men did.

I don't care whether the show lives or dies, but I would love to see the ads for it cancelled at least.

Good another shitty and unfunny sitcom that won't have to watch with my missus any more. Someone who's actually forced to watch a show he doesn't like? I didn't think people like you existed. By all means, be happy the show may be ending! :-P
