Well, every day on USA it's either Law & Order SVU or CSI marathons. In this case its not even marathons, they just don't feel like airing anything else lol.

This is an idea way before Netflix... I used to love TBS running Saved by the Bell blocks, or Nick showing Rugrats/Nick Toon blocks. Especially on the weekends, they would run huge blocks of the same show.
Makes sense, and it's mostly a cable channel thing. They need content, and pretty sure advertising revenue. So instead of taking a risk or investing in an unknown property, best to run what is a proven ratings getter.

You get what you give, but yea that's what upset me at first, then I was like, well to hell with it, I don't have to watch As an aside, I have an article somewhere and this kind of stuff really kicked in when a Texas based company seized so much control in 2002 or so. Around the same time the Dixie Chicks got crucified. I'll leave it at that

And since on Tuesday morning, when our TV is still on USA from the night before, you have people like my wife who will watch because it's on - even though she's seen it 6 times before. No different than if you or I see a Simpsons we recognize and like.

Ok, so what's the rerun value on a show like say Storage Wars? Is that a show that one might pick up something they didn't notice the first time they watched it? Is it background noise and sometimes one might not even realize they even saw the episode already? Back before Dave left and all of the controversy and spin offs I literally watched this show everyday, same episodes over and over. There was so much replay value.

Maybe it's nostalgia clouding my judgement or my generally bad memory, but I don't remember cable channels running marathons this much when I was a kid. Maybe I'm misremembering things...

They didn't-what's interesting is last time I checked, Nick@Nite for instance in other countries still run several different programs-over here they used to but now it's 3 or 4. I think they ran through the entire George Lopez series in a week once

I remember Nick at Nite running marathons a lot growing up.
Especially during the summer... like "The block party summer" lineup which was literally they played the same show all night like monday was one show tuesday was another etc. etc.

So much that when they announce a special marathon, it feels like "meh".

On Christmas this year CMT aired a marathon of the direct to home video sequel to A Christmas Story. Just throwing a marathon of one movie is pretty lazy programming. But airing a marathon of a direct to video sequel of a movie another cable already airs an all day marathon of on the same day is television's version of LOLTNA.
