Did the WWF had big plans for Michaels and Janetty when they broke up? I figured they wanted to have a plan where they would have several matches throughout 1992 and 1993 that would've culminated in a big match on SummerSlam or WrestleMania, but given Marty's drug issues, they killed it and we only had patches of it, like at the 1993 Rumble and that one episode of Raw.
I did throw in a poll about who got the most out of this feud, and I made my pick pretty obvious.

I sometimes wonder how different things would be if Marty didn't screw up. Look at the history for itself.
Marty Janetty vs. Razor Ramon (Wrestlemania X) Marty Janetty vs. Diesel (Wrestlemania XI) Marty Janetty vs. Bret "Hit Man" Hart (Wrestlemania XII) Marty Janetty vs. Sid (Survivor Series 1996) Marty Janetty vs. Bret "Hit Man" Hart (Survivor Series 1997) Marty Janetty vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (Wrestlemania XIV)
Whoa...........

I remember Shawn telling the story that they got mad that they got less than LOD for a commercial Marty told Shawn that wcw had a spot for them(they didn't) they quit but Vince told Shawn they had plans for him as a single so Shawn agreed to stay Marty was pissed because their was nothing for him past losing to Shawn in the feud.

Marty wouldn't lose his smile, he'd barter for an eight ball.

Marty Janetty vs. Triple H at Summerslam 2002 would rock, ROCK HARD.
After 4 years away from a back injury, Janetty returns to defeat his best friend, Triple H.
Janetty and HHH in 1997 in DX would be boss.
Janetty: "If you ain't down with that, I got TWO WORDS FOR YA........... S*ort Coke.........!"
HHH: "No idiot, S*CK IT"
Janetty: "SAME SHIT DUDE!"

I know who didn't benefit: poor Brutus Beefcake. He was already in debt up to his eyeballs with medical bills from the water-skiing accident, yet he opens a Barbershop and these clowns break his window. I think it's no coincidence that the Barbershop was gone a couple of months later. Between them and Sid, they cost poor Bruti so much money that he had to take his fragile face and step back in the ring despite the risks. What a tragedy!

I don't think they would ever have trusted Marty with a major push after the Charles Austin suit and his attitude/legal issues outside of the ring were too much for a company mired in scandal. If the stories about him are true, the guy should be in prison now and it amazes me they gave him the push they did.

Didn't Piper partially initiate the real life feud and breakup that came alongside this, telling Shawn that Marty was holding him back?

The Barbershop benefited the most.

This face to face interview is a great side by side comparison demonstrating why Shawn Michaels became the breakout star of The Rockers, while Marty Jannetty became the "Marty Jannetty" of the team. youtu.be/no3G3yybBFQ

I'm pretty sure the plan was for them to go against each other at WrestleMania VIII (with Shawn most likely going over) but Marty got into trouble with the law leading to his release, with Shawn then going against El Matador instead. Even before his firing I don't think they had that big of plans for Jannetty and they probably would've just used him the same as they did when brought him back. You could tell they had higher hopes for Shawn while I think they saw Marty as expendable.

I think they most definitely could have squeezed a good year long feud out of it. Let's face it tag break ups were rare and two most notable ones prior to this did year long runs such as Savage and Hogan and Martel and Santana. Of course the latter just ran and ran with no real substance, this angle was different The Rockets had an explosive break up after 4 years together in the promotion as one of the most over teams there and you also add Sensational Sherri to the mix. They most defiantly could have gotten three PPVs out of it Michaels over Jannetty at WM, Jannetty over Michaels at Summerslam and Team Michaels over Team Jannetty at Survivor Series with Michaels taking the IC belt off whoever is champion at the 1993 Royal Rumble.

The whole point was to get Shawn over a singles guy. Look at who got the high profile singles matches before the break up. Shawn did. It wasn't like the angle was booked and then they were going to see how was better. Shawn was getting the midcard push, Marty was supposed to get cleaned up enough to work and then come back so Shawn could beat him and move on completely.

Better than any promo the bulldog has ever done in that era for example.

I'm actually saying Other, I'm going with Kevin Nash.
HBK was always going to be a big star, and stayed roughly the same level of overness throughout it.
Marty was a screwup, he was super over for the IC title change, but as soon as that was done, he was jobbing to Ludvig Borga and another face in the crowd.
But this feud gave Nash an angle to come in and instant credibility in 2 ways, by looking like a badass giant, and being associated with the IC champion, it gave him a great running start to his WWF run after a stagnant WCW run.
