Here's what I've glossed over the years: CM Punk is a typically kinda grumpy, keep to himself dude. But when you get to know him, he's pretty damn alright, and he's a good friend. So far as the "CM Punk is a dick to the fans" story, most of those I've heard involve the fan doing something stupid, like stopping Punk while he's running through an airport or yanking his headphones off to get his attention. Not saying he doesn't deserve his reputation as kind of a surly dick, but just seems like it's been blown up to a mythical level by a lot of people. Are we counting the spinning back fist to the guy in the crowd? If we are, then I'd say he's a bit of a dick to the fans.

This comes up quite often - Punk didn't know who hit him, the person reached round to hit him and then hid behind someone else. Does it strike anyone else, as wrestling fans, we like the guy because he's talented, but IF WE worked with him together at a workplace, we probably wouldn't like him, because he would be too salty? Gotta separate the art from the artist to some degree. I think I wouldn't get along with Punk at all, but I do like his work. Besides, it's not like pro wrestling is like any other workplace. Batista, Rey,Curt Hawkins, Cliff, Kidd, Gallows, Joe, Ziggler, Kofi, Hornswoggle and i think Y2J in on the list too. I don't know about Y2J. Punk implied in his podcast that he wasn't talking to Jericho because he felt like it would be fodder for a podcast. To be fair, even in Jericho's last book if I remember rightly he gave the impression that he and Punk were far from friends but had a common ground involving wrestling.

As for the previously-mentioned Jericho thing, Jericho said on his podcast that he'd tried been trying to get in touch with Punk, something about sending him a text saying he was listening to The Clash, and Punk blew it off, which Jericho took to mean that he was distancing himself from all of his wrestling friends. Then, on the AoW Punk did, he basically said that Jericho was full of shit and Punk was ignoring him due to feeling like he was just looking to get something he could mention on his podcast for attention. Jericho then cut a short cell phone video saying he would never do anything of the sort, and put it behind a paywall, which did absolutely no favours for the dude in looking like he wasn't looking to get something out of it. So, probably not great buddies. Punk didn't actually mention Jericho by name in the podcast (though it seemed fairly certain that was who he was referring to), he just said something to the effect of 'the only people who've contacted me that I've not got back to are the guys I feel are just trying to get information from me to use for their own benefit.' Wow, I don't want to pile on the guy, but if this is true, Jericho is something else..... Is this the reason everyone here hates him so much....

I think the main reason Jericho's fallen from grace here is the diminishing value returns. He's one of my favourite wrestlers ever, but he's almost on Big Show levels of adding nothing of value when he shows up. He does come across pretty phoney on his podcast, though.

The way I see it, Punk probably has a bad reputation because people came to him at the wrong time. How would you feel as a person with his schedule if someone came up to you in an airport at 4:30am saying "Hey, Phil, sign this for me?" or tapping you on the shoulder at a baseball game with your wife and saying "Hey, Phil, how about a picture?".

I thought it started with his defense of Bill Demott? Then he said something which was possibly misconstrued as wrestling fans dont know anything so they should shut up. Then the returns became a complaint.

I know one guy who isn't his friend and I think it's unjustified and that's Miz.... Curt Hawkins actually talked about why so many people don't like Miz or get seriously annoyed by him, apparently he's always in character. Hawkins said that one time they were hanging out and he asked Miz "Just once can you be Mike? I'm tired of being around the Miz". Says he means well, but he's just so overbearing.] As I said before in a Miz Thread, Miz is Mike and vice versa. Mike Mizanin is The Miz at about a seven or eight. Everyone from his hometown will tell you that. It's just how people are, sometimes. Why do you think Dolph is usually his road partner? Simple: they are friends because Dolph gets Miz. Miz is abrasive and can't turn it off, but Miz is also "the hooker with a great of gold". He does almost as much charity work as Cena, and he takes a TON of garbage from his family and friends about being "The Miz". (I believe, during his second title reign, his own family ribbed him by not including him in the Mizanin Family Christmas Picture.) This is why Punk never got along with Miz. Punk doesn't like people who live the gimmick. Conversely, that why he liked and respected UT. UT was Mark Callaway until he stepped foot into the arena, then immediately when he left. (Punk might have hated him in the'80s, though, lol.)

This comes up quite often - Punk didn't know who hit him, the person reached round to hit him and then hid behind someone else. Regardless of whether he hit the wrong guy or not, he hauled off and decked an audience member. It was a dick move on the part of Punk (and the guy pestering him, don't get me wrong) for blindly lashing out.

Does anyone know what Chris Benoit thought of him?
The way he treated some other guys, throwing out Miz's stuff, making Hassan I believe do hundreds of squats, I wonder how Punk would've turned out if he shared the locker room with Benoit in ECW from 2007-2009 or 2010 before he jumped from ECW for good.

He always has been, really. His appearance on Nancy Grace (I think) during the Benoit fallout praising the Wellness Policy, which had more holes in it than a sieve at the time, was difficult to stomach. Moreso because he wasn't under contract at the time.

I'm 100% with Punk on this one. Jericho proved him right by discussing it on his podcast. Unfortunately, although I'm a big fan of the guy, I've heard far more negative stories about fans' experience with him than positive. But maybe the ones with negative stories are just more vocal about it. Edit: just making it clear, I'm talking about Punk here, not Jericho.

I heard him and Teddy Hart always got along well. He even helped Teddy measure a cage once or something. I heard they got into an architectural dispute over the height and had a bit of a falling out. That cage was NOT 30 feet tall!

I'm not going to shit on the guy one way or another, but Jericho comes off as a guy who's going to put Chris Jericho first, and make sure that Chris Jericho gets all the attention and all the accolades. Y2J still came from that era where only the Carnies succeeded, and he's just as much of a Carny as anyone else.

Maybe. I worked in TV, and you see all sorts of salty people there. And working it made me salty too. I've got a bit of a rep for always complaining about things (which is valid, because most things are shit, LOL), but I usually get along well with people. It takes a supreme asshole to really get under my skin, usually someone who thinks bossing me around or being irritating is the best way to work with me. I think just on the strength of comic books and music, me and Punk might be tight if we ended up working together. But who's to say.

I don't remember if Punk mentioned Jericho by name or not, but Chris immediately got on his social media or website or whatever to say, "No! I was just being your friend. I totally wasn't fishing for scoops for my podcast, Talk is Jericho, which you should subscribe and rate five stars baybehhhh! But, I wasn't trying to get Punk on my podcast, Talk is Jericho, I was trying to talk to my friend." Okay, Jericho.

Benoit may have gone a little easier on Punk because he had made his bones in wrestling for years before getting signed by the WWE. Miz was already known by being on Real World, and Hassan had been wrestling for about 2 years when he got the callup to the WWE. More than likely, Benoit probably thought they hadn't paid their dues yet and pushed them much harder.
