Despite saying for years that he was working on a script for “Rambo V,” Sylvester Stallone revealed in a new interview with Variety that he has no intention of reprising his role as the iconic military war hero.
“The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home!,’” Stallone, 69, explained in this week’s cover story. “It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else.”
Stallone noted that he was content with where 2008’s “Rambo IV” left the character, which he first played in 1982. “You know when you realize there’s nothing more to pull out?” Stallone says. “As an action film, I was very satisfied that it dealt with the Burmese situation. It had one foot in a current event, the longest civil war in history, 65 years at that time. It was so brutal, which civil war is, I was shocked they even gave me an R-rating. I didn’t want to compromise. I said, ‘This is probably going to be the last decent film of this genre that I’m going to do as a solo act.’ When that was accomplished, I never felt the same willingness to do it again.”
He added: “There’s nothing left. When they asked me to do another ‘Rambo,’ I said, ‘If I can’t do better than I did last time, and I can’t, then why’?”
He’s also not involved in the “Rambo” TV series, which is in development at Fox and focuses on the character’s son. “I don’t want to cast aspersions,” Stallone said, “but it’s delicate to try to replace a character with his son. I’ve seen the son of Flicka, the son of Tarzan, the son of King Kong, the son of Godzilla. It’s a very difficult premise.”
Can't argue with him-what else is there to do?

It wouldn't have to be an action movie make it a drama. Have an aging Rambo who never really made a life after the war struggling to pay bills estranged from his family and not getting the medical help from the VA that he needs.

And then he gets his gun.... That would bring light to an important topic in all seriousness.

Yeah, Rambo back in 2008 was the perfect ending. It felt like he went full circle with that ending.
And the music was perfect.

The studio did not acquiesce to his demand of a good supply of body bags.

I always had this thought that Rambo 5 was going to be him trying to live a normal life in a city... and he finds out the local gang is into human trafficking out of Southeast Asia. He stumbles into a situation where he ends up killing a couple gang members to help free some slaves and the last 45 minutes of the movie is Rambo vs a heavily armed gang. Of course there would be a scene where he says "GET OFF MY LAWN" and mows down 50 dudes with an automatic shotgun that were laying siege to his house.

The Rambo story was fully told and ended well, it's good that he's seen that and not just going to churn out another film for the hell of it.

I'm honestly glad. Yes, the fanboy in me is crying and wanting 75,000,000 more sequels, but I'm happy it won't happen. The only real road left for Rambo is death...and he's been a hero of mine since I was a little kid. I don't want to see him die. It was hard enough seeing what was going on with Rocky in Creed, I don't want to go through that with John Rambo. I like to think John rekindled his relationship with his father and family, settled down, maybe met a girl and just lived a quiet happy life. He died warm and safe in his bed. No, this wasn't the ending of the book version, but for the movie version I think it's well deserved. Let Rambo rest at long last. He's come full circle.

It wouldnt be the same without Richard Crenna as Trautman either (true, he wasnt in the fourth one either, but the point still stands).

Lmao , good one To be brutally honest Arnie and Sly is getting too old for physical action (and people said Moore was too old for Bond in '85)

f***, I remember seeing reports a few months ago that we was planning Last Blood where Rambo goes on one final mission, this time to Mexico to take down a cartel. I'm actually genuinely upset.
