I'm just curious if AAA is contributing to LU's budget in any way or if it's just an ownership percentage. In other words, I'm not sure if losing the AAA connection would be a hit to LU moneywise or not, since it almost seems like the AAA involvement is getting to almost be more trouble than it's worth.

Ownership percentage. AAA basically supplies the luchadores and owns a stake in LU. In order to get rid of AAA, Burnett & Rodriguez would have to buy out their share. Which at this point would be more of headache than just letting them stick around.

That's 3 for 3 on the Lucha Libre World Cup championship team who are no longer in AAA. Was Antonio Pena's death the point where AAA started going downhill? Certainly seems that way. They were actually pretty hot back in 2014, 2015 wasn't a good year and the disasterous Triple Mania was where everything hit the fan. Kind of went down hill after Konnan lost the book.

Konnan still had the book but he got overruled by the Roldan family on important decisions. He made angles and matches which got shit canned or modified to terrible because the veteran luchadores complained about not being involved. Oddly enough, the success of Lucha Underground helped him lose his AAA booker status.

Caught up with the two recent episodes. Really enjoying most of the show(especially what Cueto is planning). I'm guessing he's somehow building some stable, and weeding the weak from the strong.
The one thing I really didn't like is how Pentagon broke Mil's arm in like the first episode. The guy is supposed to be a walking tank, and he's already made to look weak. I am really hoping he walks into the ring in the next episode, and reveals his arm is actually fine as he slams somebody.

So... I know Google is my friend, and all that, but was Konnan a big power player who got ousted? Or was he just the equivalent of a well-liked agent?

LOL! I just found out that Mil Muertes is the same guy as Judas Mesias. It hasn't happened for a loooong time that I didn't recognize a wreslter I actually knew before in a new gimmick.

Jack Evans summed it up pretty well in his Art of Wrestling interview with Colt. Joaquin & Marisela Roldan are on one side and Dorian Roldan is on the other, J&M overrule a lot of the stuff Dorian is doing and force guys into spots because they like them - Jack specifically mentioned his & Angelico's feud finale with Pentagon Jr & Joe Lider got another team shoehorned in because Joaquin and/or Marisela wanted the other team in (I'm tempted to say it was Daga & Stevie Pain that got shoehorned in looking at the Heroes Immortales IX results).
Konnan was on Dorian's side with a lot of decisions and obviously the situation is just J&M refusing to budge and mordernise.

Konnan was on Dorian's side with a lot of decisions and obviously the situation is just J&M refusing to budge and mordernise. Nope, it was Averno and Chessman added to the feud. The match didn't happen because they cancelled/postponed the ppv and Angelico got injured. Which lead to AAA stripping Evans & Angelico of the tag titles and Averno & Chessman winning them in a triple threat for the title. The move was made mainly to keep those guys happy because they were supposed to jump to Elite/CMLL months ago but haven't done it yet. This is quite similar to what lead to the creation of AAA. Antonio Pena butted heads to CMLL oldheads about the direction of the company. He wanted the younger, athletic talents in higher spots. The CMLL elders wanted to keep things traditional with the proven draws on top. So Pena quit CMLL, took most of the younger wrestlers with him, and started AAA. The reason why it won't happen this time is because AAA trademarks all gimmicks of wrestlers who got created in the company. Drago would lose all aspects of his gimmick if he left. Same for Aerostar, Fenix, and Pentagon Jr. Plus the peso is struggling mighty hard. Coming up for the money for this type of endeavor is only realistic if they get a vast amount of foreign money or get drug cartel sponsorship. Plus they have to secure arenas that aren't controlled by other companies. So a revolt leading to a mass exodus is not in the cards. But something like Pentagon Jr leaving for a WWE deal is more realistic.

This situation of old vs new guard in AAA is reminding me of what happened in AWA.

All of this AAA stuff is really making me wish LU was independently owned by someone else right now. Imagine if they lost the use of people like Pentagon, Sexy Star, and Cuerno just because AAA is being led by the nose by the old lucha guard.

Been blazing through this the past few days while i'm off, really good stuff thus far.
Few points
- It's really great to see Johnny re-invent himself, as someone who was a big fan during his WWE stint the unique hollywood/wrestling mix LU goes for really seems like the kind of production that suits his style.
- What a shocking surprise to see Alberto come out and cut an absolutely red hot promo, not a single 'destiny' in sight. Light years apart.
- They do the whole 'big guy' thing right, Zeke and Cage's handling as big roidy guys among a roster of smaller talent really makes them stand out and annunciates their positives, a lot like the old ECW would.
- Love the Konann/Puma dynamic, his paranoid veteran with walking stick character really compliments well the absurdly talented young guy.

I don't know about behind the scenes, but on screen he was Puma's mentor and was taken out by Mil Muertes. Konnan's role in AAA was similar to Gabe Saplosky in ROH. He was the booker and main talent scout. One of the reasons why Ricochet got the LU gig was Konnan being at a PWG show and loving his style. He was also instrumental on choosing what AAA people were brought into LU except for Sexy Star was picked by Rodriguez because he wanted a masked luchadora for the show and she was the only active one in AAA. With Konnan basically written out in LU and losing most of his booking power in AAA, he is almost out of the door.

Thoughts
- The Kobra Moon debut was alright. Nothing spectacular, but promising enough. - I haven't seen enough of Jack Evans' body of work, but he does shithead asshole heel well. - Fun main event fight between Cuerno and Fenix.
