He wore a suit a couple times in ROH like 11 years ago. He's gonna sign a Bellator contract on top of the UFC Middleweight Title belt!

I wonder if Mickey likes WWE. Because if he beats Punk, he'll probably be invited to sit front row at SummerSlam.

This picture makes it look like Punk thought it was a tuxedo match: It looks like he's about to fight Cody Rhodes.

So let me get this right. Punk has spent two years training with a supposedly very good trainer and is facing a young guy whose main claim for legitimacy is quickly beating a part time amateur who boxed at one point in his youth? Why should I assume that the odds are not about even for this match? Probably because Punk is 37 years old with a variety of injuries and has never had an MMA fight before in his life snd he'll be stepping in the octagon with a jacked, healthy 24 year old who has been fighting for longer than Punk has been training. Right. It's not like Gall is some wrecker of worlds or anything, but if I had to bet, I'd bet on 'dude who has professional fighting experience' over 'dude who's never fought at all'. Particularly when the latter is thirteen years younger with far less wear and tear on his body. Punk might can pull it off, but I don't see it. If he does, great.

Punk will win comfortably.
It seems foolish to me to think that UFC would put a man who can earn them millions of dollars up against somebody who has a chance of beating him and flushing that money down the toilet. Every fighter earmarked as a draw gets to fight bums when they're starting out. Putting Gall against an even bigger bum who is not even a professional MMA fighter to build him up is classic storytelling so now he looks a threat to Punk.
It's like wrestling booking; you feed openers and midcards to your new monster in order for him to get to Hogan who then squares him away in a big drawing match.
Whilst all it takes is a rogue punch to put all of that on its arse, you still always try to play the odds in your favour.

Mike Jackson is a legit fighter who has real boxing experience, he was debuting company, we can't say that he sucks because it was his first fight, what we saw was this kid who knocked out a golden gloves champion then submit him. Mickey Gail is also a brown belt under Renzo Gracie, CM Punk has less way less grappling experience. Gail has probably trained all his life, while Punk has only been training for a year and a half. Gail has competed his full life while Punk never had any fighting experience. Punk is not going to win, this fight is going to be as one sided as Randy Couture vs James Toney. Punk is getting knocked the f*** out, there's a difference between sparing and fighting, Punk hasn't been hit at full capacity.

He now owns a suit I didn't know CM Punk was Baron Quinn from Into The Badlands! That explains so much!

There's too much money to be made with Punk. Dana will set Gall up for life to take a dive.

Punk is getting knocked the f*** out, there's a difference between sparing and fighting, Punk hasn't been hit at full capacity. I think there's a lot of misinformation in this thread. And some bitterness. Not necessarily from you, just in general. I don't think Punk is going to win. I also don't think he has no chance. I think it's a lot easier to throw out those exciting options of him winning, him winning because it's rigged, him getting beaten within an inch of his life because he's outclassed. High level MMA training is pretty serious. Good training is also the difference between a Matt Mitrione (a legitimate fighter, who has been TKO'd, and famously) and a Kimbo Slice (a sideshow, also TKO'd, also famously). Punk hasn't been hit been hit in an official fight, but I do think it's naive to say that he hasn't been hit at "full capacity". Guys don't get knocked out and injured all the time in training because they were swinging at half speed. Yes, there's a pretty good chance he could get knocked out. That also wouldn't inherently make him a sham. Most everyone gets knocked out, especially when they're older (slower) and inexperienced. Chances are high that he will get rocked by a strike, but chances are also very high that that has already happened. That's how this sport works. You don't enter the octagon having not taken a full speed strike, hoping for the best. I honestly think people on both sides of the coin are going to watch his fight and come away disappointed. After all the hype, about a minute into the fight it turns into just another fight. And then the excitement is about to argue over who was right. So to me as an MMA fan, it's less exciting from a sporting perspective. That the fight is less about whether Punk can do it, and more about other people's masturbatory feelings of their opinion. It's like Sonnen/Silva, only minus all the elite talent and with 5000x more gimmick involved. So, not great.

So you say he doesn't suck because it is his first fight but Punk sucks because he doesn't have any experience? I read an article with quotes from Jackson who said he was absolutely shocked to get the call and thought it was a joke for the longest time. He was expecting to perhaps photograph a fight, but considering that he hadn't trained in months and hadn't fought in MMA in 4 years and was training mainly as a kickboxer as a side project whilst being an MMA blogger. And his Golden Gloves Championship was a regional Golden Gloves Championship, not a national one or even a state one. This is not a man who even considers himself a fighter worthy of UFC and said: Even in his UFC bio and his pre-fight interviews he said that it was a crazy situation and he was hoping that it would help grow his media career. He was a fighter who wanted to fight to grow a non-fighting career. It should be obvious that the man was a patsy to put Gall over in order to increase the eventual buyrate for the Punk match. It should also be obvious that making him look like a million bucks before Punk beats him will only make Punk look better. I mean, we can can back and forth on the fight based argument but for me there is an even simpler thing here. The UFC aren't going to throw away millions of dollars by having Punk get beat in his first match and they've known this when setting up the match

He never wrestled in high school, he never boxed, and he hasn't even competed in jiu jitsu. Jackson at least had fighting experience, Punk doesn't, and I don't see it possible that Duke Roufus turned him into this monster in just a year and a half.

Punk will win. Even if Dana has to slip Gail a Mickey himself. He won't want to risk Punk getting blown out, not when he can get him blown out in a bigger money-maker.
