I agree, even though I like the guy. His promos are good, and the idea of the character is even better on paper.
...but god damn is his actual character kind of goofy. They have the announcers scream "HE'S A LUNATIC MAGGLE HE'S WACKY" but he just dresses like a hobo, is an idiot, and pulls Nickeloden pranks. He's a brawler, but he's a sucky brawler. And that's not even getting into that stupid clothsline that's as bad as the 619 and Del Rio's Stomp as far as "this is fake guys" wrestling moves go. Granted, he hasn't been as corny and dumb since the stuff with Kevin Owens started, he's actually showing grit and toughness and not being all "wacky Bugs Bunny" about it.

Im glad this was civil discussion. Ive always respected the diff strokes aspect of fandom. Id like to see a more toned down sinister heel, i think that may work. I think he was more toned down during the Shield days. His otherness was a bit more subtle and unnerving. After the split he became this wacky, zany cartoon character. I'd much prefer him to how he was in the early to mid days of the Shield (Roman too for that matter).

Ambrose was great in the Shield, obvi. But since then, I kinda don't get the hype. He came off as much cooler pre-breakup. I really don't think he's found his groove as a singles character. Or maybe he has and he just has a lower ceiling than we all expected. He has managed to click with the crowd despite being booked very, very weakly compared to the other two. His matches aren't as good as you would expect them to be, with the exception of a few (notably with Rollins). They present him very cartoonish. He's more of a clown and less of an Austin or even DDP. His character should just write itself. A loner who marches to the beat of his own drum. But too often they've put him as Roman's sidekick to make Roman appear more popular. Either way, I think his last 2 years have been a bigger waste of time than a lot of us have hoped.

I was more of fan of crazy indy Jon Moxley than WWE babyface Dean Ambrose. I still like him and think he's had some really good matches as a solo star but his act in WWE seems to me like a watered down version of the stuff he used to do. This. It feels like he's in cruise control...playing a character; instead firing in overdrive, BEING the character. I love Ambrose and am glad he's made it, but I feel the same way.

I love him, I get why people don't.
The clothesline thing needs to go, but it gets a pop every time. What you gonna do?

Jim Stansel, you may be my new best friend.
I also do not get the love for Ambrose. At all. Once upon a time, I tried to give the guy a chance, but I just can't stand him. When I hear his music, I change the channel. I know that a really corny promo or mediocre match is about to happen. In my opinion, he can't cut a promo to save his life and his matches aren't remotely anything wonderful. I've always said that if you wanted a REALLY shitty version of Terry Funk, Dean Ambrose is your guy. There are a ton of guys on the roster who are much better than he is. There's a few who are more over than he is. But, sadly, WWE is hell bent on pushing the Shield and no one else.

I like Ambrose to some extent. That rebound clothesline, Michael Cole's obnoxious push for the stupid buzzwords like Lunatic Fringe and Ambrose's stupid tendencies make me not like him as much as say Sami Zayn or Daniel Bryan.

Do you use any combination of the words "YAAS", "SLAY" and "QUEEN" or "KING"?
If not, then yes you are out of touch...and be thankful that you are.

Like Ambrose alot, except the Wackyline of course
I think his act is really good, with the sometimes silly facial expressions and mannerisms! Pretty refreshing
Still prefer AJ, Sami, Cesaro, Rollins and Owens over him

I love Ambrose, and I actually don't mind the lariat.
I do hate that this being the WWE he has to do it EVERY MATCH.

I love Ambrose, and I do see the Austin connection. He's just the guy people want to get behind, because he's crazy and unpredictable. Things don't always have to be about whether you have a 1,000 holds (I'm looking at you, Malenko). It's the characters that captivate most of the audience. It's exactly what I dig in Ambrose.

Ambrose's "crazy" character is just the shits. It really is. He needs to be an everyman, to replace Daniel Bryan, but I hate the "lunatic" character.

The problem with the "crazy babyface" gimmick is that, as long as you want to keep it child friendly, it can never be taken seriously and thus will always be a "wacky" thing. Just look at what happened to Truth after he turned face. They should push it to AT LEAST 2008 Edge levels of crazyness, but clearly that's not gonna happen. They can either turn him heel, which would be stupid considering he does have a large fanbase, or just let him be a working class-style hero. This in-between is shit.

Yeah, the lariat has some problems... though I think it's mostly a camera-work issue, actually. Ambrose and his opponent can work out a good reason why they just stand there and wait to get clotheslines, and it can look fine, but the camera rarely captures it smoothly.
But the rest of his offense has never caused me to raise an eyebrow once, not sure what people's problem is there.
But you want to know the real secret to his success? Acting and selling. (and looks) No big mystery.

I know this is going to sound terrible, but from what I've seen of Ambrose lately, I like the "wacky" aspects of his character. I don't think it takes away from his toughness at all. I honestly find it kind of charming, it allows him to appeal both to kids and adults in the crowd and it keeps him from being an Austin clone. I'm getting pretty bored with the "gritter" aspects of wrestling. I know that's what most fans want, but it's not for me. That's why I don't like Owens as much. I don't need things to look "real", I just want insanity and spectacle.
