see,my mom wants me to go to private school,i said ok.now, all of the private schools,it seems have alot of required programs were girls *must* wear dresses, usually white.and i think thats unfair, that we have to wear dresses whiole guys get to be comftorable in thier suits.so then my mom asked what i would do at my high school graduation and i told my mom that if i had to wear a dress at my high school graduation, and she got mad and said that was wrong. my question is,why is it so wrong for me to not want to go to my high school graduation and be really uncomfortable for 3 hours while the guys get to be comfortable for 3 hours?

Because it only happens once and it's a major thing in your life. It's a few hours, just suck it up and go be a prissy girl for a few hours. It won't kill ya

Believe me, wearing a suit at graduation is really uncomfortable too, at least for me. My usual getup is large t-shirt w/ Hawaiian shirt, shorts or cargos, and sneakers. Suits are hot, tight and uncomfortable. But I do agree with you. Uniforms are the dumbest idea ever for schools and 99% of students would be so much more comfortable at graduation if they didn't dress up, especially when they have to wear the robes.

Suits are NOT comfortable.
Anything that requires wearing a tie is, by definition, NOT comfortable.
That said...I think I look rather fetching in my new one. But the damn ties, argh.

I went to private school for 6 years with terrible uniforms. But on thursday it was our Valedictory dinner. And i pretty much every girl wore a dress, except for like one or two who wore skirts/tops. And my dress was ridiculously uncomfortable, with boning that dug in under my ribs if i slouched, so i had to have perfect posture all night. But thats just the kinda thing that you put up with for one night, cause the rest of the night was v. fun.

honestly,i just want to go to public school if they at least let you be comfortable... Not all public schools are like that. Not mine. Under your robe for graduation, men have to wear a button up shirt and slacks or khakis, and girls have to wear a skirt I believe. Maybe they can get away with slacks. My school can be quite strict sometimes about little things.

Not all guys feel comfortable in suits, if it was about feeling comfortable you'd be aloud wear whatever you want.

what i mean is the guys required clothes are more comfortable than the girls.how is it fair to not let girls have the option of being more comfortable?and why not let guys wear dresses if thats better for them?

I guess it's just a tradition. It may suck, but it's only a short time. I guess you're just going to have to bite the bullet and get it over and done with.

Ah, it's good to be me. At my High School Graduation, they didn't really care what we wore under our robes. I went sporting jeans and a t shirt. Ah, the simpler times of the 80's ... But I agree with this guy. Easy answer. Go in a suit. Having worn many a suit in my day, they aren't exactly comfortable. Ah, the pains we all have to go through to be stylish. But if I were to give any advice to you, it would be that you should walk down the aisle like the Nature Boy Ric Flair. ;D

Easy answer. Go in a suit. Our revered leader not only has the right answer, but this is actually what seems to be most common at the highest levels of society now. A suit (defined as a fitted jacket and matching pants worn with appropriate dark shoes) will see men and women through just about any formal situation. Men probably will have to wear a tie, and women probably will have to wear shoes that do not look like they belong on a nurse or a nun, but the days of telling women they need to wear dresses ended some years ago. Not a political statement at all: If you look at how Hilary Rodham Clinton dresses, you will see how easy it is to avoid dresses and still look appropriate for any occasion.

if its just for a couple of hours, its not going to kill you. you got the robe to cover it up anyways. for my grad i had to wear a skirt and a nice shirt, but i had the robe on over it so it didnt really matter.
a lot of the guys i graduated with were really uncomfortable in their shirts and ties and the girls (the non-skanks) were extremly uncomfortable in the heels. its just a few hours, suck it up.
