C'mon man I'd warrant that Big Show at least has the potential to be entertaining. A-Ri would struggle to do the same. Riley could be entertaining if given the actual chance to cut loose and just be a goof. Like I said earlier, he never really got to do the "fun" stuff that other lower card guys got to do because WWE seemingly went out of their way to avoid using him. When he was a face, a decent chunk of the fanbase looked forward to his matches even if it was obvious that he was never going over because they liked how he threw his whole energy into them and they could see him visibly improving. You can argue that anything he can do someone else can do better (on the other hand he's better at certain aspects than others), but that doesn't make him useless. You need "lesser talents" to protect the better ones. Part of the reason why certain guys struggle (The Cesaro, Swagger, Neville, Breeze, Cody tier) is because WWE's refusal to consistently use guys like Riley (among others) leaves them on the bottom by default because there has to be a bottom of the card somewhere.

^So you're saying use Riley because he sucks and makes everyone better than him look even better by default.
So the goal to elevate people is "at least they're not Riley"?

I read this as him not being the point of reference, but trying to be a barometer and being as awful at it as he is at being a wrestler.

Did he name himself after the band White Lion because they are also terrible and irrelevant?

^So you're saying use Riley because he sucks and makes everyone better than him look even better by default. So the goal to elevate people is "at least they're not Riley"? The goal is to use Riley (along with people like Fandango, Sandow, and the Matadores) because he's good enough to at least be on Superstars every other week and good enough to at least have a spot on the Wheel of Aggression or something. If they need someone to lose a random five minute filler match to, let's say Ziggler, why not put Riley, et al in that spot instead of jobbing out someone like Tyler Breeze who people obviously think deserves to be higher up the card.

^So you're finally admitting he's no better than a 1980's jobber? I never said Riley should be a main eventer or a world champion or even an IC/US Champion. Just that he deserved to be in a higher position than he was. I feel that Riley got a bad shake because WWE spent the last four years or so cultivating an overpopulated, bloated "upper card" scene and neglecting all other divisions. He and the rest of the WWE lower card imo are at the level of Attitude Era lower midcarders with better athletic ability and in ring talent.

Dude's actually getting something resembling a push right now on NXT and is probably gonna be a mid-level guy for the foreseeable future. Unless you just want him to get paid more, I'm not really seeing how that's any worse, if not better, than being a random geek that pops up on Superstars every couple of weeks.

I feel that if a main roster talent like Adam Rose can show up on NXT every once in a Blue Moon and someone like Ryder can work Superstars/Main Event and NXT concurrently, there's no reason why Riley (along with Emma, ya girl Eva, and my girl Cameron) can't do that as well. His paycheck is the least of my concerns since dude is probably already making at least baseline main roster pay (but without the bonuses from merch, etc). Thing is anyone who isn't a main guy/girl on NXT, and isn't just beating up Deonna Purazzo, Corey Hollis, or John Skyler every week probably only shows up once every taping (once every 3-4 weeks), so if he were doing main roster shows as well, he'd at least get more face time. I mean losing to Dolph Ziggler or even R-Troof is many steps above losing to Tye Dillinger.

Because if I remember, that's basically the position Riley WAS in for a few Months in the Midcard, he then proceeded to Sandbag Swagger and get hurt, and even if you want to contest the Sandbagging, he was still getting shots at the US Title even before that vs Ziggler
The push you wish Riley got, he did, and he blew it, due to Attitude for one thing and the injuries didn't help, that part was out of his control, but the WWE moves on, and Riley fell behind. Will he ever rebound? I don't know, but he's lucky to still be employed to get a show period. Does he even deserve another chance? That I don't know either, but this weird almost Meta Douche Gimmick that Riley has right now may be the best shot at something.
So hold onto that Catch_Us. Hold onto that, Say it to your Face Prayers, eat your Letterman Jacket Vitamins, and Drink your RAGE, or something... because if Alex Riley ever in fact does something, this is going to become the "Cleaning up pieces of Catch_Us that exploded everywhere" forum for a bit...

Speaking of Hollis and Skyler (and Sorenson) as designated Job-Boys, whatever happened to them using guys like Alexander Wolfe and Riddick Moss as male versions of Peyton Royce/Billie Kay until they're ready to get some real momentum?

He should've gotten more just on the merits of improving in the ring after being taken off of TV and continuing to get reactions. If they had done that instead of placing him on commentary when he was nowhere near good at that, then the "Meta Douche" thing would've never happened and people wouldn't be making threads every other week just to throw in their 2 cents about how hes the worst thing to happen to wrestling or whatever. Hell, people still don't want believe that the "Meta Douche" gimmick is just a gimmick even if it's staring them in the face because they want an excuse to justify their dislike of him.

Him being a douche on twitter happened before he ended up on commentary. I pretty much think that Riley's stint at the commentators desk was some attempt to improve his mic skills because his attempts on the mic were not good. I have yet to see any of these "improved ring skills!" that you keep touting. He seems to be the same... he's not botching everything but he's not really spectacular he's always been. Not that it potentially matters because the WWE is not a meritocracy... and here's the thing even if it was he'd still be near the bottom of the totem pole.
