"CURRENT YEAR!" is not a very good argument.

I think it's pretty sad that it was one of the few options they had.

About this, and really WWE in general for the last couple of months:

I think the better question would be "How many of his 'mania main events should he have main evented" It could be argued Rock vs Hogan should have went last at 18, and Taker vs Michaels at 25. Which basically leaves him with XX, and 22 with Cena.

I've been tired of him since 2003. So I'm not super into it.

I don't mind so much considering the spot they were put in this year, however this will now be the 3rd HHH main event that the crowd simply doesn't care about.

I think it's amazingly dumb and short sighted, but I find it even more amazing that they have featured someone I'm fully willing to root for HHH over in 2016's Mania main event. Same here. I'm far more irritated with his opponent that's main eventing.

I'm fine with it on the principle that I don't think there are many people on that roster better than him in the ring, and he's absolutely guaranteed to put on a fantastic match with Reigns. I just want more Triple H matches, period. I cannot remember the last time he was as good as he has been these past few years. I really dig his style.

Just more of his thinly veiled manufactured legend status shit. If this was ten years ago, I'd be upset, but it's just how it's done now.

In 1996 when the WWF were doing the Billionaire Ted skits, Hogan would've been around 43 and Savage around 44. Now HHH is 46, Shane is 46 and Taker is 51. Yet, they don't seem to find the irony of this at all.

It sucks and it's laughable. Mostly laughable. The whole match is a joke. HHH Vs Roman Reigns is the best match the WWE can put on at it's biggest event of the year? That match isn't even qualified enough to main event Power Struggle and it's headlining Wrestlemania. This company and it's booking is a freakin' punchline.

Here's the thing... If Cena wasn't injured he would be facing the Undertaker and that would be the main event.

There are no top heels who can put on a match that will make Roman look as good as Triple H can. Rollins could, but he's injured. Ambrose has already faced him plenty of times before, and nobody will boo him. The Brock thing happened last year. Sheamus is a joke. Kane or Big Show are too clunky to main event Mania and the match would be extra shat on for its boringness. WWE's made their bed with their own shitty booking and the ensuing rash of injuries, but this really does feel like it's circumstances forcing their hand into bringing Triple H in to main event. No doubt he'd be on the card, but I doubt this would be the plan if it could be helped.

Really, of all the things wrong with Mania 2000, Triple H main eventing wasn't one of them. He absolutely deserved it that year, coming off of the amazing Royal Rumble match with Foley.

It's par for the course now so what's the point? Nothing the fanbase can do will get Triple H removed from the top spot, we all know that now. Let's face facts, booing doesn't work because he and Steph genuinely believe that 'just go away' heat is the same as 'We'll pay to see you lose' heat and even people turning off in droves wasn't get him removed from being painted as the top performer in the company. The reign of terror saw business shrink but they kept him there anyway, acting like he was a real draw rather than the company benefiting from the leftover good will from the attitude era and being the only game in town, using him as the solution to a problem that they/he created. Newer, fresher talent weren't able to carry the company because they left their feud with him looking like chumps, so back they went to Triple H as the #1 heel time and time and time again, spending millions on WCW names for him to beat and sapping the heat from people on the full time roster who get over because he's just the greatest and not a Jeff Jarrett level talent pushed like he was Hulk Hogan.
If they'd invested the time and effort they've wasted on keeping Triple H and Stephanie strong on younger talents over the past decade, a Triple H match would be a rare treat and people would be excited to see it, not resigned to the fact it's happening anyway no matter what.

Because it makes sense from a storyline perspective. And HHH has built up a lot of goodwill due to his involvement with NXT.
