Yeah, Dreamer's gross out gimmick wins this for me. At least most of the stuff they do is worked, but I don't know how you work fake tobacco spit we saw Taker spit into a cup. It probably goes along with why Dreamer is one of my least favorite wrestlers ever. No lie, I remember when my dad picked me up from a wrestling meet back in 8th grade. He is a big time chewer and I thought there was a Dr. Pepper waiting for me after as a reward...I empathized with Dreamer since that day God. I tried dipping 2 or 3 times and got sick every single time. I don't even want to think about getting someone else's used tobacco.

did the angle go nowhere? sure...but ill NEVER get this board and why stuff thats in movies and tv shows all the time is 'not cool' when it was on a wrestling show during a tv-14/MA period...then the same peoplke complain about how the pg product sucks now (which it absolutely does but for many other reasons than just being handcuffed with a tv rating) I wasn't deeply offended or anything, I was like 16 when this happened, the exact demographic they were aiming for at the time. But when you're supposed to suspend disbelief and take these characters as real, it gets a little dicey when they do things based on race, rape, etc. Most people can get into wrestlers who can trigger lightning and fire as over the top and fun, but a guy beating his girlfriend is a little much. Again, especially when you're targeting teenagers and young adults. And only a short time later, they had the real issue of Austin and Debra. But looking back on it now as a 33 year old man who has seen his sister in an abusive relationship, that angle was pretty unnecessary. She could have accused Chaz of cheating with any other of the smoking hot girls on the roster. The violence and then making Mariana out to be a scheming liar who faked her abuse is again...a touch much. Also, pro wrestling can't really deal with an issue like this. In a movie or TV, the woman can fight back, the guy will get sent to jail, killed and she'll have at the very least a major role in that. In wrestling, what happens? The guy loses a match? You're not going to get any real consequences, 6 weeks later it's forgotten forever. Plus it turns out she's lying cuz women be bitches... Yeah, I'm happy to have PG if we can't do that.

The violence against women in the Attitude Era was a really fine line. At times I'd take it as a part of the times, and then at other times it felt all too uncomfortable to watch. Someone mentioned the Trish barking thing, but I also remember this:
Watching Bubba Ray push Stacy's head against the turnbuckle and yell at her made me mad uncomfortable. Plus, she's smoking hot without the misogyny.

It wasn't deliberately done, of course, but Joey Mercury's face being busted by the ladder was pretty darn gross.

Dreamer's gimmick in 02 definitely ranks up there, I remember the week after the tobacco incident when Taker took the bucket that Dreamer vomited into and poured on his face.

I remember back in 99 D'Lo was in a hardcore match and whoever he was wrestling starting choking him with rope or something like that and he had a bunch of foamy spit coming out of his mouth that made me throw up.
So I guess that would be it for me?

to me what pushes the Trish barking like a dog segment over the line is the fans in attendance cheering it.

Seconded. Thirded. Fourthed. Disgusting and uncalled for. I literally was uncomfortable watching that show with my father and even more so when my sister walked in and asked what the hell we were watching. Same. I stopped watching for a long time. I believe it was until the first ONS til I started watching again.

Alot of people in this thread are missing the point entirely.
I'm pretty sure it's referring to gross things like Tommy Dreamer or a bunch of gushing blood, not uncomfortable and unnecessary things like violence against women

For example, there was that time Austin Stunned Stacy because she didn't want a beer. Or the Molly Holly virginity/body shaming angle, where we were supposed to hate her because she was a "prude" and "fat." Just a lot of f***ed up angles that delivered an awful message.

That clip, the Molly angle, Katie Vick, HLA, 3 minute Warning Brutally beating the HLA girl all were in 2002. I hate that year. If 1997-2001 is the best party of your life, 2002 is you with your head in the toilet, before the hangover that was 2003 to.........hell we're still hungover.

There's a reason I call 2002-2003 "The Desperation Era". Ratings went into freefall after the Invasion, Austin walked out and The Rock left for Hollywood. As a result they just threw stuff at the wall to see what would stick.
