culturecrossfire.com/wrestling/wwfinphilly2191983/#.VxEchjArLIUI'm kicking off a new project as I take a look around the wrestling world month by month as Vince McMahon steamrolls the territories. Each major territory has their main cards and angles looked into for the month as I make the journey through time. I'm kicking off with February of 1983. The WWF has a huge 10 man tag in Philly, JCP is setting up the Final Conflict, the AWA is running on Hulkamania, St Louis is dying, World Class is on fire thanks to the Freebirds vs the Von Erichs, JYD is waging war with the Rat Pack, Lawler is chasing the AWA title and much more! Additions and further info is more than welcome!

Just looking at February and I have to be honest - compared to what was going on elsewhere, the very notion that *this* WWF was already wildly successful regionally and about to become the monster powerhouse they did just blows my mind. Because *this* WWF was the drizzling shits. World Class, AWA, Mid-South, Georgia, Florida and Crockett all had huge things going down at this time...even Memphis was on fire...
Snuka and Muraco were the only hot things McMahon had at the time. Andre was still super-popular but he was also starting the final slowing-down phase of his career. Hennig and Gilbert were undercard prospects used to further some angles without breaking into their own yet. Almost everyone else on the roster had been around for a thousand years and most of them wrestled like it. I just can't see standing there at that point in time, looking at who was where and what was going on in each territory and going "Yeah, the WWF is going to be the one that takes it all."
Neat video you included. Lord, Graham looks so different and so...wrong...in that gimmick. Buddy Rose making another swoop through the territory, too. I've always found it funny how many times Buddy passed through over the years without hanging around. A month here, one match there, a short program there, another one-off match, etc.
