I am watching this match for the first time right now and wow is it ahead of its time. I absolutely loved it they both took a beating. Scorpio did a pele kick in 1996 took a modified slingshot suplex on a guard rail. Both men are so innovative at the end of this they both look like they gave everything did everything in their arsenal without burying their finishes and the finish was awesome.

Yeah that match was great...which made it so much more painful to watch the atrocity they had at Extreme Reunion.

I gave this match of the year for 1996. (I didn't buy Survivor Series, so I didn't see Bret/Austin I yet.)
Scorpio was a talent that could turn it up a notch when the spotlight warranted it. And Shane, have just returned in January (and been turned back by Raven for the ECW title the month before), felt the TV title was beneath him.
Great match highlighted by a simple storyline...this belt matters to me and I'll show you how much.

I'm currently going through all of the Hardcore TV episodes and am in 1996. Anyone know if this aired on the show?

Watching it now. (EDIT: It's all there, save for a move or two cut out due to a commercial break. Even the pre and post show angles.)

Scorpio was so ahead of his time. To me, he was THE high flying wrestler of the 90's. People talk about Brian Pillman and Jushin Liger, who were great, but 2 Cold was just on another level. His 19:59 match against Benoit at Superbrawl 3 is a classic that starts slow, builds, and by the end the fans are going nuts.

What made 2 Cold great as a high flyer was the fact he could stay grounded if he chose to. He wasn't Rey Jr. He didn't live in the air. But when he did, there was impact. (I still love that twisting corkscrew legdrop/tumbleweed.)

And has anybody done Drop Da Bomb(Moonsault Leg Drop) since Scorpio?

Drop Da Bomb is one of the coolest finishers ever, and I've never seen anyone do it besides Scorpio.
And his changing his name to 2 Gold Scorpio when he held both the TV and tag titles is the greatest pun in wrestling history.
