Did they only have that 1 title match at MSG and I think 1 rematch? When I was little I was under the impression that they had a long rivalry.

they had a rematch about a year later. Hogan had New Japan dates to fill after winning and I think Sheik had a feud with Slaughter afterwards.

Wrestlingdata has 23 title matches listed plus one tag match with Duggan and Hogan facing Shiek and Volkoff in 1987.

If I remember right, that rematch at the Spectrum is one of the bloodiest matches ever.

Wow. I need to see that. The MSG match when Hogan won the title is their only match I ever saw.

I saw a tag match in 1991 at a Providence RI house show with Hogan and Duggan vs. Slaughter an--
........oh wait, that was Col. Mustafa. Completely different guy. My bad.

Way, way, way back in the day, WWE did in fact acknowledge that the Sheik and Mustafa were the same person. I remember reading about it in their magazine's crossword puzzle back in 1991. I just thought I would mention this.

I just thought I would mention this. Piper kinda prompted Vince to acknowledge it during Col. Mustafa's debut, almost egging Vince to say something. I've always had the impression Vince wouldn't have said anything had Piper just gone along with it. Meanwhile, the Mooney and Lord Alfred version (dubbed for Prime Time airing, IIRC) makes zero mention of who Mustafa used to be - which is what I reckon the kind of treatment Vince wanted in the first place.

Much like the Saba Simba/Tony Atlas thing. If Vince was trying to bring these guys in with their new gimmicks why didn't he just smarten Roddy up about it before he recorded commentary?

Because Roddy was crazy?

Different times, I guess? He seems much more serious in the present era, yelling in peoples' ears and what not. But back in the late '80s/early '90s, he probably didn't have that attitude (yet). Though I'd hate to think guys like Piper and Savage (and even Heenan and Gorilla) going "off script" would harden him to do what he's doing nowadays... Plus he was probably just a different kind of person out there doing the commentary (having fun, getting into the banter, embracing the arena & audience element when they were live in a bldg) vs. sitting backstage like a Howard Hughes recluse at the Gorilla position.
