No idea if the new 6 PM Sportscenter Format will stick. I think once you make your bed with stuff like this, you gotta see it through regardless if it fails or not. Anything else will just be seen as a step down. I'm just not sure how I feel with the trend of moving towards character centric shows rather than just giving us the news. I think it's crazy that that give so many hardcore sports fans great reasons to not watch their programs. I don't wanna watch Michael Smith and Jemele Hill hit on each other. I don't want to watch Screamin A Smith. On second thought, who the hell WANTS these things?

I hope ESPN suffers an agonizing death.

But anyway, I'm a fan of His and Hers, I just think this is overkill. What works at Noon doesn't necessarily work at the 6 PM hour. They're also hosting the celebrity game or something, ESPN is a lot like WWE, they find a successful thing and just run it into the ground. The world isn't clamoring for it.

I'm really happy for Michael and Jemele. I haven't watched sports center in forever but I'm giving them a shot.

I don't want to watch Screamin A Smith. On second thought, who the hell WANTS these things? As much as Stephen A. Smith is reviled, he's also one of their most popular hosts. A lot of people loved hate-watching First Take instead of doing the more logical thing and not watch a program they so clearly dislike. Or maybe they don't want to admit to themselves that they actually like the show. When people talk about ESPN losing subscribers, it's mostly due to cord-cutting and more a-la-cart cable packages. Out of those 95 million subscribers, I'm willing to bet an overwhelming majority of them have never watched ESPN or don't even care about sports, but they just got the channel as part of their cable provider's basic packages. As more people cut the cord entirely or trim their cable channels down to channels they watch regularly, that number's going to go down. It isn't so much any specific failures on ESPN's part as it is a changing landscape of how people watch TV. There are other metrics by which you can judge ESPN's actual performance, but subscribers are really only a valid statistic for individual channels when it comes to outright premium channels like HBO or Showtime. Likewise, I'm also willing to bet that the reason why FS2 subs went up is because more cable providers started carrying the network on more basic packages. FS2 was super-niche so it only had room to grow as far as visibility goes.

I can't stand the quality of ESPN's content, but I'm the first to recognize that I'm not their target demographic of riled up knuckle-dragging, YouTube commenting sports fans.

I don't think she left the network or anything, I thought she was just on maternity leave. As for Mike and Jemele, I enjoyed His and Hers, but On The 6 or whatever they're calling it isn't quite as good.

They're act is cute in a small setting but putting it on big stage is going take getting used to. I think they will be fine long term tho. The rumor of Mike Greenberg getting his own show will prob bomb tho

Apparently another round of layoffs, including those on camera and behind the scenes set to begin and will end by June.

If I had to guess, it will be people from the NFL side of things. They have a shit ton of talent there that they could just cut, or move them to seasonal jobs. There's no point in seeing Teddy Bruschi in March talking about linebackers at the combine. Who cares?

^ I guess that's confirmation enough of a mass layoff, but yeah, it's definitely happening today according to Jaymee Sire:

"Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Karl Ravech, Ryen Russillo, and Hannah Storm will see their roles at the network “significantly reduced.”
Doesn't Russillo have his own show? And Ravech is a Baseball Tonight mainstay, wtf.

Damn, Russillo is on my short list of people that I hope they don't touch. It's him, Dan, Papi, Bomani (because he goes so well with the LeBatards) and both Mikes.

They let Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBraun go. Not that I thought the network gives a shit about hockey, but this kinda reinforces that notion.
