Haha did you seriously bash LeBatard and Bomani while praising Jim Bowden? The same Jim Bowden that skimmed bonuses from foreign players while GM of the Nats, and provides the most generic/awful baseball commentary humanly possible? Jim Bowden might not have been the best example, but my point still stands. ESPN looked at their roster and decided to let a group of very talented reporters go and decided to hitch their wagons to blathering hot take machines like Stephen A., Kellerman, and yes, LeBatard and Bomani, just as they did when they offered those multi-million-dollar contracts to their previous era of hot take windbags like Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless. These firings tell me that ESPN is more interested in driving the conversation with controversial opinions that gin up the most excitement on social media.

If you call Dan LeBatard or Bomani Jones hot take machines, I don't think you really watch Highly Questionable or listen to the LeBatard show.
Or if we're going to quote Papi:

A lot of LeBatard's 3 hours on the network everyday is dedicated to pointing out how people overreact to "stories" and how often times they have nothing to actually talk about because all of the ESPN talking points are non-stories. Stu handles the hot takes, and it's done more tongue in cheek. Dan is not at all a hot take guy. The most flack he catches is about the race stuff and it's mostly just from people who are uncomfortable about the discussion in the first place. His "hot takes" are like him saying 'I don't think Colin Kaepernick is out of line'.

I'd call the LeBatard Show "Mystery Hot Take Theater 3000" because they make fun of ESPN's resident hot take artists so much, all in good fun of course. They have a Stephen A. Smith alarm with him going "AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" and cut to whenever he goes nuts on First Take to marvel at how over-the-top he is about sports.
His most recent controversy was the Magic Johnson thing, and in context it was a nuanced discussion about whether he deserves the position, following the recent pattern of people without any experience in sports front offices finding themselves in major positions (Phil Jackson, John Elway, John Lynch, etc). Other people within ESPN (mostly SportsNation, the most hot take-iest show after First Take, and Keyshawn Johnson) turned it into hot take material.
And I'll go to bat for my man Bomani, too. He's a little more prone to hot takes on Around the Horn when he's on (which is basically a Hot Take round robin, but he's at least better at that than Woody Paige, Tim Cowlishaw, or Bill Plaschke), but I genuinely find him interesting and thought-provoking to listen to. And he's very entertaining on Highly Questionable.

However, amongst the talking heads on ESPN he's the least always trying to get over how smart he is (Wiley, Kellerman, Stephen A), how loud he can be (Stephen A) or how cool he is with everyone (Stephen A). Don't get me wrong I like Stephen A but the era of the loudmouth personality is over in ESPN. His TV persona has worn thin but they pay him all this money to be outlandish as they did with Cowherd and Bayless. The formula that they have with Jamele and Hill or Scott with his Sportscenter could work but only if they have likeable personalities. This Greenberg experiment is doomed to fail because Greeny is dry without Golic to cover for him. A good morning America type feel can work for ESPN but only with the right people.

I don't understand how anyone can think Mike Greenberg can carry his own show. He's the blandest sports "personality" ever. Only reason Mike & Mike works is Golic.

This is like the 3rd or 4th project they have tried to do for Greenberg and each has failed. Golic always brought that "human quality" to the show while Greeny was more preppy and smug in areas. I get they are trying to go for a Good Morning America feel but Greenberg is not the person that should be flagshipping that show I would love for them to combine Golic and his son but I doubt that will happen. Supposedly Trey Wingo is taking Greeny spot

At least it isn't Stugotz. I am amused when he guest hosts with Golic or does his show with Golic Jr., but the LeBatard Show wouldn't be the same without his pathologically lying ways.

Coachman and Golic have good chemistry as well. If anything it will be a revolving door of people like any other time Greeny misses time. Wingo for a few, Coachman, Adnan Virk, Golic Jr, and other personalities for when they want Golic to do the ad breaks and all the other stuff

NBA Insider Marc Stein is out too according to his twitter. Between Stein, Andy Katz, and Jayson Stark they should rebound very quickly. Stark would be a get for MLB Network

He'd be a good long term replacement for Peter Gammons. If Mad Dog can get a show on MLB Network I am pretty sure Stark can do well for himself

Stein I could see joining the ranks for NBA and Stark for MLB Network. ESPN let go of three prime guys who could be argued as top in their field to pay their big personalities like Stephen A 6 million. Everybody else that got released will prob end up on Fox since they seem to be dishing out money like water

People like Broussard and on air talent like Chris Carter should be happy ESPN let them walk last year so they can sign contracts with Fox. Paying Skip Bayless 7 million dollars is beyond me tho

The irony is they're getting rid of guys in sports they paid the most for in broadcasting rights. You would think the opposite would happen. Stein would be great at Turner, but they just don't do enough games and NBATV is horrible.

but what will happen to The Ocho?!!?!? Who cares, they've already done their damage. Just shut it down. (Whoops, didn't realize I was replying to a 10 month old tweet. Still relevant.)
