I really, really hope that falls through. I hate seeing Melo force himself from a pretty good situation to a bad situation and then force himself again to a great situation. More than anything about this league, I hate that they essentially reward guys for being shitheads. Probably why guys like LeBron and KD have such thin skin. Because coaches (and teammates, owners, GMs, media....) have to coddle and defer to them, where as in other sports guys get their ego checked by coaches.

I assume a protected pick is in there that probably won't be for like 2 years since I think Portland traded the pick they would have for 2018??

In other sports 1 player has less of an effect on the game other then maybe a football QB. And even then if that QB has a bad OLine the team has a ceiling. You also have a situation in basketball where the top players are underpaid due to salary max rules so a good percentage of the league know Lebron,Durant,Curry etc are putting money in their pocket.

And everyone knows that. Their attitude is a byproduct of that. It really goes without saying. But also, the NBA's salaries are getting out of control. John Wall is making 42.5 mil a year. Also, people are well aware that the NBA is a major vehicle by which top players showcase themselves as stars so that they can get ridiculous shoe deals and other endorsement deals. So A) They're still making ungodly money and B) They need the league more than the league needs them. Don't get me wrong, the NBA is a star-driven league by far. But Steph Curry's bank account without the NBA looks a hell of a lot worse than the NBA looks without Steph Curry.

The top players in the NBA is probably the least scandalous of the major sports .Lebron's "decision" and Durant making twitter ghosts and being a passive aggresive dude with thin skin is really tame compared to the behaivor of some people in other sports. Outside of Boogie Cousins or Dwight Howard you don't have anyone who is an all star this century who are outright bad teammates. Lebron may be a control freak but you don't think most elite QB's in the NFL are. I mean even Peyton Manning passing record record celebration he had his teammate practice it to go a very specific way.

If that trade does indeed go down then Oklahoma, San Antonio, and Houston are the only teams that actually stand a chance against the Warriors in the West. Although I think OKC is a bigger threat to Golden State in my opinion. Especially if Westbrook can get his head out of his ass and actually play smart team basketball in crunch time.

Warriors achilles heel is big men so yes OKC and NO by extension can upset them if they use their big men correctly but I still think GS is too talented and can make the necessary adjustments in a 7 game series

There is a difference between being a control freak and having complete control. Nobody in football or hockey or baseball is the GM of their team the way LeBron is. Tristan and JR got paid because LeBron said to pay them. It's a completely different level.

The problem with Melo's contract is that it's huge and he also has the No-Trade Clause (thanks for that Phil!) making things more difficult. Any trade with Houston is going to be bad for the Knicks because it'd certainly have to involve Ryan Anderson, who has an even more toxic contract than Melo. The reality of the situation makes it extremely difficult to trade him for anything positive.
Honestly, it might be best for the Knicks to just keep Melo at this point and he spends the year rebuilding his trade stock in a season where he doesn't have to deal with Phil Jackson backseat coaching and taking passive-aggressive swipes at him. Either that or buy him out just to get him off the books. Trading him just for the sake of trading him is a big mistake.

As you know tho the thing in basketball is one player can make all the difference unlike Baseball or Football where you need a team to compete. Lebron IS the Cavs and they will bend to his will. You have to have a strong head figure in basketball like a coach Poppovich or Pat Riley being the head guy of Miami to slow these guys down

The thing is the Knicks haven't done a trade with the Rockets because they don't want Ryan Anderson and Houston has been trying to pawn him off to someone else. Isn't this Melo "last season" considering he has a player option clause next year. I agree trading him for the sake of trading him would be a mistake and they could wait until the deadline where someone gets desperate. With the way NBA contracts have been inflated the last few years the Knicks will surely take on a bad contract (Leonard from Blazers, Anderson from Houston) on top of receiving a semi decent player and a pick that will probably be protected down the line if they do the trade now

A) One guy makes all the difference in the league. B) That makes these guys bigger prima donnas than pretty much any other sport. Because who do they have to take orders from? Nobody. That's all I'm saying.

LeBron only has that power because the GM and Owner give it to him. He's just playing with all the toys his parents keep spoiling him with.
