And the ironic thing was WB accusing Marvel and Disney of paying people to give bad reviews to Batman v Superman. You know, WB...there is an old saying about people who live in glass houses.

i think its pretty obvious whats going on here. Disney has bought off the FTC to lie and say that Warner Bros pays reviewers. we all know Disney is the one who buys off reviewers because of Batman v Superman, and they know we're on to them, hence this "shocking" discovery. in one fell swoop the Big Bad Mouse has damaged Warner's reputation, their credibility, and their financials means. this is all part of Disney's evil scheme to control the superhero movie genre, and i for one am not going to fall for it like the rest of you sheeple! ITS ALL A CONSPIRACY, OPEN YOUR EYES!!! I don't trust any conspiracy theory unless they use the word sheeple But that's the title of Pixar's next pre-movie short...

That's why I respect Extra History.
They always say "So, that company makes this game, and they've asked us to talk about this time period. We're sponsored to teach you history today"

It is weird that WB thought it was necessary to do for that LOTR game. Everyone I knew that played it said it was really good and I'm pretty sure none of them were paid to tell me that. Yeah, I'd understand if it'd been a stinker, but Shadow of Mordor was a f***ing awesome game. I suppose they wanted to ensure it did well.

Business-wise, it makes sense. PewDiePie has 46 million subscribers, so why wouldn't a company see marketing appeal in it? Not saying it isn't shady, because it definitely is, but it shouldn't be that surprising.
Besides, most of the "big" YouTube gaming channels are glorified marketing campaigns anyway nowadays. Look at what Markiplier does for Five Nights at Freddys or what PewDiePie himself does for anything he plays.

Does PewDiePie really count as a "reviewer"?

I'm not surprised. I dont trust any reviewers and havent for years.
After they all gave XCOM 9/10 and I bought it only to be very disappointed, I refuse to even read a review. A lets play is a must because you cant hide anything, that is the game and how it plays.

We always joke about people being paid off to give good or bad reviews, but then it goes and actually happens It actually happen a couple times before. Sony is one example in movies and I won't be surprised if it happen a bunch times in video games. Now what I'm wondering is this going to hurt PewDiePie career or not. All I really know about PewDiePie is his cameo on South Park and a Game Theory video explaining his popularity. But for some reason, the idea of PewDiePie having an Alan Freed like descent into the abyss is funny to me. Maybe it's because from what little exposure I have had to him, it seems like he is a very enthusiastic, lighthearted guy (or at least his public persona is). So the idea of him in some shithole bar downing straight scotch yelling "The world was my oyster, until that damn payola scandal ruined me!" makes me laugh.

I remember a ton of Youtubers were covering Far Cry 4 and it did give me the impression that they had been paid off.
Same for JonTron covering Star Wars Battlefront last year.

Does PewDiePie really count as a "reviewer"? No, because he isn't one. He's a let's player (although lately he's been doing comedy stuff as well)

Well... guess we know what the next Jimquisition is going to be about now. Well sure. If you really simplify it, Jim's career is basically going "hey, look at this scummy thing the game industry did/does" over and over again a nothing ever really comes of it.

I can safely say I have never watched a Pewdiepie video ever, and have no major desire. Not trying to be the "Hey look how cool Iam for not watching what is popular" Just simply stating Anyway it's interesting this gets brought up, I was watching a vid on YouTube about how Atari at the time bribed PS2 and X Box Magazines a good rating to Driv3r which was a good 3-4 years delayed and ended up being a buggy mess. And threatened to sue anyone who dared to give it a bad rating. Breaking news, if your product gets a bad rating, it's probably because it sucks. Suck it up and improve your product than the ratings may improve. Fighting your critics won't.

Felix himself is a laid back guy, but the PewDiePie character is a screeching asshole basically marketed to 8 year olds.
