Miz's character doesn't really need the IC belt, nor has he done anything for it, or it for him this go 'round. If anything, it's more of a prop to him than it would be to someone else who was booked around it mattering to them. There's been nothing in this 'run' by Miz that has made the IC belt itself matter one whit. So him continuing to hold it will only continue to do nothing for it. I think it means a lot for the IC Title that Miz is actually holding it. If he didn't have the belt, he'd be the guy pinning the IC Champ in a non Title match to show us how intense and focused he is before they feed him to Cena or the Shield boys or while he "waits his turn" for a world title run. It doesn't though. If he's not doing anything with it, and it's ancillary, it's just a prop. Him having the belt or not having the belt is exactly the same. If his character's focus had anything at all to do with valuing the title as something to defend, it'd matter. As is, it doesn't at all. Plus, I hope he never gets 'his turn' for a world title run. He's not a main event guy/titleholder. He's an upper midcard gatekeeper/occasional challenger. And he excels in that role.

I never want to see Miz as a Main Event world title contender again... dude excels where he's at and there is nothing wrong with being in the gatekeeper role.

^Thing is that if Miz isn't going to be in the main event picture again; having the IC Title is the best use of him. Sure Darren deserves a break of some kind but you still gotta admit that even with his new repackaging, Darren is a very...verrrrrrry steep drop off from the guys who have been holding the IC belt over the last 3-4 years. And even if he is over, it's still too much too soon
It would basically be Curtis Axel all over again.

You need new blood around titles and Darren is being given the chance for the first time. However, if he can't get heat against Miz then he has a problem

Who determines what's 'too soon'. That seems really arbitrary. And again, it's a waste of the IC title having a guy that does nothing for it or it for him. It's like when Ambrose had the US belt; utterly pointless.

I'd be open to another Miz World Title run if it meant they actually acted like he was World Champion and not use him as a prop to set up a feud for the next year's WrestleMania.

It's like when Ambrose had the US belt; utterly pointless. I'm just not sure how much faith I have that they'll push him/book it right. I like DY and think the pairing with Backlund works well, but I almost feel like they're going down the old road of trying to use the title as a prop to elevate someone rather than using someone to elevate the title. I don't remember half the IC champions of the last ten years because it was never treated as anything special and I'm not convinced that's suddenly going to change with Darren Young. I feel like the IC title should go to someone who's just about bumping up against the glass ceiling and has had a sustained period of overness. It should be the title for "not quite ready for main event players," not the title for "let's see if having a shiny piece of gold will make this person seem more important." My hope was that Miz's reign would be ended by Cesaro or Sami Zayn. Those two have been over enough for long enough that it would generate a big pop -- it would help the legitimacy both of the wrestler AND of the title. But now that I've voiced concerns Young will probably win the title and it'll turn out brilliant.

Miz would be a great heel world champ, dude's a natural bad guy and he'd be a great foil for some new face winning the belt. I remember his reign having a ton of hype, but once it happened it was basically "Cena vs. The Rock! But also The Miz is here so that's a thing.". Give Miz a run with the world title and I think he knocks it out of the park.

The whole Young gimmick right now is that he wins through dumb luck and celebrates with Backlund. Him beating the Miz by completely lucky means frees the Miz up to move to the main event scene which is something he has earned and is possible with shallow rosters I do think Miz belongs in he main event scene, but at the same time, I think it would bury the IC Title if creative were all like "Now that there are two world titles again, 'real Stars' like Miz don't need this piece of crap anymore. Here you scrubs can play with this now." Darren winning would just undo all the work that "top" stars like Miz, Owens, Ryback, Bryan, and even Barrett despite him jobbing hard with the belt, put into it. . I'd like to see it go back to being what it used to be as a gateway to the main event. Miz dropping the title after having a nice reign and moving up could help establish that. Call me crazy but I could see Young as the transitional champ between Miz and Corbin much the same as his mentor was between Hart and Diesel.

Honestly? I'd rather see Backlund beat Miz for the IC title Having them paired together Backlund overshadows Darren in every way and is the star of the much touted tandem.

I'd be fine with it, though as mentioned that would mean Smackdown has no midcard belt, unless Rusev loses to Ryder.
