It's also 90s nostalgia. It was popular enough to be around for quite some time.
As for the hype, well, it's just a really nice orange-tangerine drink.

I'm still sitting on a case of it.
I should probably be drinking it instead.
Still hoping we get another restock down here, considering it literally showed up at one store for about two weeks at best and then was gone forever.

I grew up in the 90s and don't remember this stuff at all. It continued until 1997, and was still around under a new name until the mid 2000s before finally leaving the market entirely.
